That site probably works for iPhone 5's assuming it's all the same price, but I haven't tested it yet. They just unlocked my 4s in 5 minutes. People don't know about these unlocks like they don't know that you can get a food stamp debit card if you and your household make under $10k a year or so the same day you apply at one of the welfare offices. You can also apply online.

:D Haha thanks! Good analogy!

Just another vote of confidence for unlock_fusion on ebay. Ordered yesterday and just got my email from him notifying me of unlock. Checked my imei online and it shows as being unlocked.

Just curious, are you all on original AT&T iPhones and using these eBay services?

im in japan and the only one ive found has come up with the Pre-order as stated above. unfortunately they came back and said "no go, we will refund (didn't come incidentally)" and now the site is saying "Pending contract negotiations with vendor"

oh well....

A dumb question here . After I have my iPhone 4 unlocked via anyone of the posted sites in this thread, if with any luck, my ip 4 does really get unlocked! Do I then need an AT&T SIM card to activate the phone ? Or not ? Cause I have no AT&T SIM card in hand. That will be a problem , right ? Anyone has the answer for me? Thanks! Guys!

Nope, afte it is unlocked, any sim in the tray and connecting to itunes will activate it.

no conclusions, it's gray market so you never no what to expect, but prices have droped lately to around $10, thats pretty cheap and worth a small gamble.

I'm in Canada on Telus. After your phone is activated on their service for 3 months, your bill has been paid on time, and your phone is still active, they will unlock it for $50. Some of the other Canadian carriers will do the same.

Can I reuse an IMEI number?

I did the gophone SIM in my iPhone 3GS and it works great. I bought $15 Nokia for this purpose.

Now I'm getting an iPhone 4S and I want to give my old phone to another family member to use as a gphone.

I have an unused SIM card. Can we use the original Nokia gophone IMEI code which I still have and set up a new account?

Or is the phone tied to my account and I'll need to buy a new gphone?

the Sim is not part of the IEMI so no

from Webopdeia

IMEI is short for International Mobile Equipment Identity and is a unique number given to every single mobile phone, typically found behind the battery.
IMEI numbers of cellular phones connected to a GSM network are stored in a database (EIR - Equipment Identity Register) containing all valid mobile phone equipment.
When a phone is reported stolen or is not type approved, the number is marked invalid.
The number consists of four groups that looks this:
nnnnnn--nn-nnnnnn-n
The first set of numbers is the type approval code (TAC). The first two digits represent the country code. The rest make up the final assembly code. The second group of numbers identifies the manufacturer:
01 and 02 = AEG
07 and 40 = Motorola
10 and 20 = Nokia
41and 44 = Siemens
51= Sony, Siemens, Ericsson
The third set is the serial number and the last single digit is an additional number (usually 0)

Quick question: If I just want to unlock my phone and have not jailbroken it (and have no interest in it) then all I have to do is buy the unlock, yes? I don't need to be jailbroken, right?

EDIT: Also, I'm in Canada. Do any of those cheap eBay ones work in Canada?

no you don't need to unlock

look on Canada Ebay for a IEMI seller check the seller ratings before buying.

It seems that AT&T users get it for $10 but the cheapest I can find for Canada is $120, which is insane because I can get one from my carrier for $50.

Does anyone know where I can get an unactivated T-Mobile SIM card? I just want a SIM to occasionally check to make sure my iPhone 4S is still unlocked.

I went to a couple of T-Mobile stores and they won't give me one -- even one that hasn't been activated.

Never mind, I found one on Ebay.

Once unlocked, your iPhone will stay unlocked. I didn't have a T-Mobile sim like yourself and walked into a T-Mobile store. I asked if I could test a micro sim with my 4S that I just got unlocked. I did mention I was thinking about switching to them after my contract expires.

You can get it from tmobile's website for 1$ shipped. I did buy one that way. It was regular sim and you can cut it to micro sim.

The T-Mobile SIMs aren't active unless you buy $10 credit. Simple Mobile will show the carrier without credit.

I used http://www.iphonefactoryunlocks.com in the past. They can unlock the iPhone 5 too. They usually do it within 24 hours even if you pay for the 36 hour one. You can always call AT&T and they might just unlock your phone for you if you've been a customer for a while and your bill is paid on time.

----------

I can confirm, with the service above, my unlock of my AT&T (contracted) iPhone 5 is now unlocked. I bought a t-mobile micro-SIM, cut it to nano-SIM, slipped it into my iPhone 5, restored and BINGO!

I am SO happy right now! JB and I am ready to rock!!!!

Got unlocked message, but can't perform unlock!

Hey, guys:
My iPhone 4 purchased from ebay 2 years ago, was locked to AT&T. I purchased unlock service from Unlock Fusion via EBay for 6.86 bucks! And they did get back to me within 3 hours said that my iPhone 4 is "unlocked" . I have checked at least 4 other " iPhone status check " websites besides their own check site. They all showed " unlocked " . But when I performed the unlock procedure. I tried so many many times with no luck! Still showed " no service " when put TMobile micro sim card in( cut by myself ) when restored! But iTunes did showed up my TMobile phone number! Any suggestions ? BTW Unlock Fusion did send me unlocked message within reasonable time with a really good price, though. Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks! :(

what BB are you on, how do you restore and are you jailbroken?
Mine used to be 04.12.01 run on IOS 5.1.1 and jailbroken , but when I plug it into computer , runs on Win Vista, iTunes asked me to upgrade to IOS 6.0 , which Unlock Fusion says OK, so I did! And the BB went up to 04.12.02. Is this what went wrong ? Thanks for your reply !
