James from FireCore responded to our DivX complaints on the official FireCore forums:

"DivX has never been officially supported, though in past builds, some of these videos happened to work. However, in 4.0.2 certain video types (including DivX and some of their Xvid equivalents) have been disabled for compatibility reasons.

We're looking into ways to get them working again for a future version, though we don't have an ETA for this just yet.

Thanks for your patience and understanding."

At least we know they're working on it, just need to be patient now. I recommend MrMC to those that need DivX compatibility in the meantime.

I've been using MrMC, its pretty much the same as Kodi. The UI isn't as attractive as Infuse's but it gets the job done, it can play anything you can throw at it and works in metadata nicely.
Agreed, if metadata is that important to you. FF/Rew is more important in our use case, but we just can't get the Siri remote to work properly with MrMC. User fumbles, maybe? Even tried the old silver remote for FF/Rew, but after the last update, that's a bust. Really wouldn't want that anyway. One remote is a huge goal in our household.

MrMC is much better with latest release with the Amber Skin. You can also delete files which is helpful when using to watch recordings. Infuse is still best UI but still a bit slow for MPEG2 files compared to the others and you can't delete files. NAStify has very similar UI to VLC and allows to delete files. I have had some problems with playback of SMB MPEG2 files after pause, rew,FF.
What is your experience with Siri remote in MrMC? Can you FF/Rew easily?

Have you reminded developer of your playback problems on SMB MPEG2? Requests sometimes get lost in the shuffle.

As Infuse doesn't support (currently) DivX files, what are you using now to play DivX: MrMC or NAStify or ?.

Yes. I did remind the developer of the SMB MPEG2 Playback problem here when it first came out. They made really good progress but still much slower the all the others (MrMC, NAStify etc). But they all have one problem or the other.
Regarding MrMc FF/Rew. The 1.2 release is much better when using the Amber Skin. They have a FF with x2, x4,x8,x16,x32 where you can watch the movie at that speed and stop when the commercial is over as an example. All the others do not offer this. The problem with Infuse is that after you stop it takes 4 seconds to start again (was 15 so big improvement). The Infuse with MPEG4 is instant like the other with MPEG4 and MPEG2. I really like the FF/REW options in MrMC and hope the other get it. I would say at this point MrMC is the best "all around".

Download at your mac MediaInfo is free:http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/32313/mediainfo check your files.

Check this greek forum, take a look at the pictures you understand i think is about 4cc in english, lesarros is me.

http://www.avsite.gr/forum/threads/mac-users-mac-computers-media-players.82543/page-32#post-1852028

Current files with Divx3.Divx4,Divx5,Divx and DX50 just set new in XVID.
Works with batch changer, network discs, usb etc
1st make a copy in some files and test it if it works for you!

It's only 1-2 minutes for a lot of files to change 4cc from divx to xvid, not convert, not reencode.

The question is that my file is already in XVID: MPEG-4 Visual (XviD)
But still dont openning in infuse.

It's a bug from firecore this, not from apple. Why the others apps can play divx?Apps at appstore, like kode,Nastify,MrMC,OneVideo etc.Why these apps can play divx?

at divx and change 4cc to xvid, infuse 4.02 can play now,it's like xvid. Why not the others,it's an infuse problem.

Exactly and the advice to try FourCC is a friendly advice but it doesn't change anything to the fact that I bought a program that states on it's website and on the description of it in the Apple tv app store, that it can play AVI. But as it turns out after i bought the app, it can only play certain types of AVI files.

And I wonder what to do? Ask my money back or wait until they correct this issue?

There is also a free app that can do all that Infuse can't. It is called

Videoplayer.

And it is free. It can play almost anything. Even FLAC audio. It only doesn't pass thru DTS etc. But maybe when I wait until they correct that, my wait for them maybe shorter than my wait for Infuse to correct the AVI issue........... The picture quality of Infuse is only slightly better but maybe Videoplayer will also be better in their next update!

Why did you encode your media using an outdated codec in the first place?

Can't speak for anyone else, but I have hundreds of videofiles from years ago... wasn't an out of date codec when they were encoded, and don't relish re-encoding

Works with you? Nothing happens to me still receving DivX message
best i get is audio, and black screen :-( not working

Thanks for your question but is it of any importance? I am buying something that is supposed to work and it does not!

Get a refund and move on then. It's what I did when the app didn't work for me. They fixed my issue and I bought back in and couldn't be happier. As mentioned though, there is no mention of divx support and xvid encoded .avi files work fine.

Lots of my AVI files do not work. I am not talking about divx.

Thanks! But why use handbrake when I use a app that promises that I do not need to convert?

I think the problem is for .avi files with D.D.With 4.0.2 avi files with dolby digital sound can't play with infuse.
Other avi files with mp3 or aac sound can play with infuse even if are divx or xvid.

I'm not saying you should give Infuse a break, rather, just pointing out a less painful way to bring your files to more modern standards. As time progresses you may find it increasingly difficult to play older files.

Are you streaming via UPnP by chance? Unfortunately UPnP/DLNA devices won't make artwork files available to Infuse, as they only 'share' the folders/videos themselves.

Yes, I am using UPnP/DLNA to stream, so that answers my question. SMB is too slow for my liking. I'll sacrifice folder art for speed.

Yes, I understand. Thank you very much for your advice! But I can also use the, until now still free, 'Videoplayer' app. That one is capable to play almost anything but it has no Digital sound throughput. However it will play flac audio...

It is a little weird to have all these different apps that have their own qualities but lacking other features that yet another one does have. I would say all those developing them should join forces and create one app that can do it all.

For now I got my money back for Infuse. Maybe when they improve I can try it again. They actual reason to ask my money back was that I saw I had paid for it twice. How this happened I don't know. Perhaps I bought a Pro upgrade from within the Infuse trial app on one device, while downloading the Infuse Pro app on another device; assuming I did not have to pay twice since I already bought it.

Anyway I will keep an eye on it......
