I've noticed that stuttering becomes more pronounced when subtitles or the progress bar are displayed on-screen. Has anyone else noticed this? Playback is certainly smoother with the latest update, but I still notice some stuttering and dropped frames (particularly on 1080p/24 content).

Hmm, would you be willing to send in a quick note with a few more details (file type, source type, Wi-Fi/ethernet, etc...)
http://firecore.com/contact

We're looking into a few specific cases, but overall we're seeing that 4.0.2 plays even the largest Blu-ray files without any issue.
I've now watched several more video files, and I am 99% certain that turning on subtitles causes dropped frames and stuttering. It's most noticeable when the subtitles are transitioning from one line to the next (the brief moments between dialog when the subtitles briefly disappear). With subtitles turned off, playback is silky smooth on nearly all of my files. I've tried both SMB and UPnP protocols as well as WiFi and hard-wire connections -- same issue with subtitles no matter what, so I don't think it has anything to do with network connectivity.

If you'd like me to send mediainfo stats for my video files, I'd be more than happy to. But subtitles seem to cause stuttering no matter the file type/video format.

Hmm, interesting. Are these SRT subtitles, or embedded ones?

We're hoping to submit 4.0.3 to Apple tomorrow, which includes a hefty number of improvements, so it's possible this may help resolve whatever is going on.

Most are downloaded from OpenSubtitles within the app (so SRT I believe), but some are embedded within MKV containers. I haven't paid attention to whether this makes a difference, though.

Open the Spoiler tag below for the mediainfo data on a file I watched last night with embedded subtitles. The stuttering was fairly severe with subtitles enabled on this file. Again, leaving them off resulted in perfect playback.

I think it is an Apple issue - if you pull down any of the menus, either within Netflix or Infuse, as soon as the graphic appears, it impacts on the framerate of the video being played, so I guess the subtitles interfere the same way.

Hmm, I suppose that's a possibility, as I've noticed the menu pull-down bug in Netflix. However, I don't have any issues when using subtitles with iTunes movies/TV shows on Apple TV. The native tvOS media player must render/display subtitles differently than Infuse.

I got my atv4 today and i bought the infuse pro, i have movie folders on three different drives, movies, movies2 and movies3. When you add shared folders how can i make it to have my movies from all three shared folder show up on one folder when you add to favorites.

Unfortunately this isn't possible just yet, but will be available once we implement a library view - which will be available in the coming months.

I really hope the metadata fetching is greatly improved as I'm sorry to say it currently sucks compared to Plex.

I've just added my movies and tv shows which have been under Plex for years. They are all organised in the correct folder structure and file naming format as per both Plex and Infuse guidelines. Here are the things that went wrong that I think need to be addressed (many of these also affect movies) along with other things I noted:

-Many TV Shows (probably 80%) only showed as a folder. Only once you go into that folder does Infuse attempt to get the metadata. So when you have dozens and dozens of TV shows you are forced to go into EACH one by one to force the metadata. Stupid and time consuming

-Additional folders completely screw the thing up, something that Plex handles well by ignoring them. You have to manually remove any extraneous folders or metadata fetching plays up.

-Folders that have a cover art inside them use that cover art even when the setting is set to ignore embedded metadata. This means screenshots etc sometimes found inside movie folders are treated as cover art when Infuse could get something nicer. I had to go manually through dozens of folders and delete individually!

-Unlike movies where you can "Edit" the metadata match, with TV shows this function is per episode. The edit function should be at the Top Level of the TV show.

-Metadata matching is far too sensitive. Eg Movie folders with the words "DVD Rip" or "BR-RIP" in the folder title completely throw it off something that Plex doesn't blink at.

-In TV Shows, go into a season then click on the preview image of one of the episodes. Instead of that episode starting to play straight away as in all other ATV apps, nothing happens. You have to then navigate to the 'Play" icon and click that in order to play. I presume this is a bug?

-FILTERING FILTERING FILTERING :) Honestly this is a major missing feature for a media player. We need the ability to see "Newly added", "Genre" etc etc

-Searching. Maybe I'm blind, but how do you search for a movie when you've got hundreds of them?

These were just some of the frustrating metadata issues I found. I wanted to feed this back to the developers as the player itself is awesome but it's the metadata engine (and the lack of viewed, unveiled status) that is really holding this program back.

Hope these can be fixed.

When is library view coming? One more question, i was streaming a movie from my pc and it would play flawless for a while then i would get the little wheel and say something about not being able to connect to content or something like that. Then i would have to exit out and restart and it would play fine again for another while then it would do the same thing. My atv4 is wireless and my win 10 pc is connect directly to xfinity latest and greatest router. Is there anything I can do to fix this.

Thanks for your feedback. We have a number of things in the works, mostly revolving around deep folder scanning, library view, and search that will provide a lot more flexibility for browsing and finding media. 4.0 is just the start for us on Apple TV with many more good things to come. ;)

A few notes in the meantime.

1. Editing metadata for a single TV episode should actually apply to other episodes in the same season/series as well.

2. The upcoming 4.0.3 version improves the behavior of the lower shelf area - selecting an item will immediately begin playback, without having to navigate up to the Play button.

Library view is in the works, and will be available in an upcoming version (likely 4.2).

The issue you are seeing with streaming should be resolved in 4.0.3, which will be available within the next few days. Hang in there! ;)

Out of curiosity, what's your issue? I have an AVR-590 and have no problems.

When you enable DD/DTS passthrough you only get static noise. This is an issue with several 2015/2016 models from Denon, Yamaha and others. This also includes best selling receivers like Denon X1200W and X2200W.

Even if Dolby is selected in the Apple TV sys prefs? That's really odd that newer models would have an issue.

Would it be possible to put in some kind of option for 'resume playback' in the options, so we can enable it by default? I want it to resume playback without asking me. Yes, I'm lazy.

I'm finding in the last week or so it's taking a while for the app to recognise my NAS or external HDD - I have both a mycloud mirror and a WD HDD with the later being plugged into a AirPort Extreme.

In the first month or so of owning the app it loaded up the content perfectly and instantly. Now however it spins for a while and at times doesn't even connect. I have to quit the app multiple times.

Any ideas as to what is going on

That's interesting. The ATV app never gives me this problem (with basically the same setup as you, except plugged into my iMac) but the iOS app takes forever to load my shares.

Thanks for the suggestion. We'll see what we can do. ;)

The upcoming 4.0.3 update has a number of streaming related improvements, and will likely help with this. ;)

4.0 for iOS should be a bit faster with share loading as well. ;)

Great! Glad to hear you're enjoying it.

An option for recently added videos is in the works and will be available in an upcoming version.
