So, I will take that to mean that my current instructions for use of Parallels Tools in Version 8 is correct as stated and does not need to be updated at this time.

Is it possible to move all GoLive files to within your User folder on the Host? This would enable you to use the Shared Folders folder (a feature installed by Parallels Tools) on your vSL Desktop to access them all.

When you double click Shared Folders, a Home folder will appear and when you double click this Home folder, all of the folders contained in your ML Users folder will appear. You now have access to your GoLive files where ever you stored them within your User folder.

An alternative is to use the GO menu in the Finder down to Connect to Server... If you enter the IP of your Host (found in System Preferences:Network), you can use Apple File Sharing to access all of the files on the Host as you would if networking to another Mac on the network.

Creating an Alias to the folder where you store all of your GoLive files and copying that Alias to your vSL Desktop, should give you double-click access to these files.

Hmm, logging in via IP is a good option, too. At least it looks like the host desktop with same files/windows. Could be confusing, though, if I used Coherence mode. :) Cheers!

I have tried this numerous times and with little success. First my Snow Leopard has a can not use circle with cross on it and I get this when i try to open it in Parallels
An invalid Mac OS version is installed.

Mac OS X virtual machines can have only the Mac OS X Server Leopard or Mac OS X Server Snow Leopard operating system installed. Other versions of Mac OS are not supported

Any Ideas
Thank in advance
Jeff

Can you tell me at which STEP and sub step of my installation instructions in post #1 where it fails?

You cannot follow Parallels installation method that they suggest for Snow Leopard Server.

No Sound, Parallels 8 and Mountain Lion

I have a sort of working version of Snow Leopard under Parallels 8 and Mountain Lion, but the sound isn't working. Under System Preferences: Sound in Snow Leopard, the Output tab says "No output devices found".

I think I have the parallels hardware options set up correctly and have reinstalled Parallel Tools, but still no sound.

Any suggestions?

I need more information:

I assume you followed my instructions completely.

What Model Identifier is your Mac: Apple Menu - About this Mac - More Info

Anything else you think I should know.

OK. I fixed it. I found the Software Update had not completed. When it had, the sound was on.

Great news!

Which software update, in case this comes up again!

Which PowerPC applications are you using?

I am not sure why you reference Tiger or Leopard; how are they relevant to running Snow Leopard installed into Parallels, while Parallels is running in Lion or Mountain Lion?

I am on a MacBookPro 9,1 running OS 10.8.2 and Parallels 8.0.18354

I have successfully completed the First Step for Mountain Lion using the shadow method.

I am able to make it all the way to Step 1 Part 8-a. However, after I select the language and it proceeds to the next screen, instead of going to the screen to click the Install button, I get an error window that states, "Mac OS X can't be installed on this computer." It also says, "If you want to restore your system from a Time Machine backup, click "Restore from Backup"." and then there are two buttons, on to Restore From Backup and the other to Restart.

In searching the thread, I did not see any one else come up with this particular error. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Drew

Spotlight.....

After weeding through all 18 pages, I finally have Snow Leopard installed (as well as Parallels Tools) on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) running Mountain Lion and Parallels 8. The only other thing that I absolutely need right now is the use of Spotlight in Snow Leopard. Is this possible? And, if so, how?

1. Post #1 is intended to be self-contained, in that you are not required to read through the remaining 18 pages of information, just to be able to install Snow Leopard in Parallels. So as to avoid this problem in the future, could you let me know what information you hoped to find in the remaining 18 pages? Was it about Spotlight?

2. I am not a Spotlight user. I see that it continues to be available to me on both of my computers which run Lion. Does Mountain Lion eliminate Spotlight? Could you explain to me what Spotlight does for you and how this is not available to you in Snow Leopard, so that I can help you solve your problem?

Drew: sorry for the delay; I did not notice your message until today. I will give it some thought and be back to you...

Mountain Lion still contains Spotlight...and works perfectly. In my Snow Leopard virtual machine within Parallels, when I type something in Spotlight, nothing happens. I've tried the "re-indexing process" (in System Preferences) as well and still nothing.

EDIT....I just realized that searching in Finder doesn't work either.

Ok, again, remember that I am not a Spotlight user:

What does using Spotlight in virtualized Snow Leopard give you, that you cannot achieve by using Spotlight in the native Mountain Lion environment?

I need Snow Leopard to run some Rosetta software...about 500 small pieces of software to be exact. My choice is to weed through them....or, use Spotlight to narrow my choices....like I do on my native Mac side. If I try and search for these on the native side (Mountain Lion), they don't show up.

I still do not understand your need here:

No Rosetta software will run in Mountain Lion, it will only run in vSL on your Mac. So, I do not see any reason to do any searching in vSL. If the program will not run in Mt. Lion because they tell you it is PowerPC, you know how to run it in vSL; without reference to Spotlight.

Maybe give me an example or two of your real life experiences attempting to use Spotlight and I will try to duplicate them on my Mac.

UPDATE: I missed this sentence of yours: "If I try and search for these on the native side (Mountain Lion), they don't show up."

But still try to give me some examples to attempt, so I can better understand why you are searching.

I have LOTS of software (over 500 apps for specific skills for my students....I am a teacher and I sometimes need to model the software for the students before they use it.) that will not run in Mountain Lion. They will not run in Mountain Lion because they require Rosetta. This is why I wanted to install Snow Leopard on my Mountain Lion MacBook Pro. All these pieces of software have multiple words in their title...words that link to the skills used in the software. There are times when I want to do a quick search for a skill....in other words, bring up all the software that utilize this skill or skills only. This is where either Finder or Spotlight come in. Since neither Finder nor Spotlight work, it takes a lot longer to find what I need. I hope this makes a little more sense.

Re post #427

Hi Michael,

Accessing the host HD via IP worked well.

Unfortunately, the alias of my projects folder won't copy/paste or drag to the vSL desktop. vSL knows it's an alias, but doesn't recognize it as a folder and won't let me move it to the vSL desktop. Placing the alias in my ML home folder doesn't work, either. vSL doesn't seem to recognize any folder alias as a folder. Permissions issue? Or something more fundamental?

Try to compress the alias first (Option-Click), copy the zipped version of the alias over to vSL and then double-click on it in vSL to uncompress it and see it the uncompressed alias now works.

Spotlight seems to be working for me both in Lion and in vSL.

How about some screenshots?

What do you mean by Finder not working?

I'm not sure what a screenshot would accomplish. Since nothing is found when I search in Finder or Spotlight...

Here is my vSL running in Parallels 7 in Lion; I am not sure what more I can tell you about Spotlight. I am going to think about your problem and see what other workaround might work for you.
