Just had a read through all this... My IP6S+ isn't on iOS 10, yet... What's the general consensus; worth updating, or hang-fire until the bugs/creases/glitches are ironed out?!

Cheers

Huge battery drain again...

I don't know what's going on.. Left the device at 56% in the night, now there are 24% left. HOW and WHY?

#iOS10Bugs
Honestly, battery life should not be evaluated for a day or 2 post update. Too much going on.

I am REALLY f*****g angry.

I was updating my Mum's 6S to iOS 10 using the IPSW on my MacBook, and it went into recovery mode with an error 7. I didn't do a back up because I'm an idiot and now she's lost years of photos.

It's my fault for not doing a backup. But I'm still mad. She has never been more angry in her life. :|

She's restoring from an iCloud backup but she didn't have iCloud Photo Library Turned on and I don't know if her photos are going to be restored.

Google Photos. The best backup solution for photos. Free unlimited storage and accessible on any device or computer with access to the internet. Not much use to you - but its worth installing as a future reference.

Been there/done that with a previous iPhone

It's painful, but we all make mistakes :(

Agree re Google Photos; I have it on every device!

Re the iOS 10 update, I'm on my 3rd try via iTunes for my IP6S Plus... Keeps saying its lost network connectivity although my Mac is hardwired into my modem and running at 250Mbps... Must be an Apple end issue...

My iPad Pro updated with zero issues!

My thoughts exactly. Never ever am I going to trust apple with their iCloud service for my photos and videos. I lost all of my photos on iCloud when going from iOS 6 to 7.

Update**

Just updated my IP6S Plus via OTA and it's fine, no issues and did it straight away!

Tried it via my iTunes on my Mac and it kept coming up with a 9006 error; no idea why as my iPad Pro managed it with no issues.

Could it be that I've updated to running OS Sierra Beta this morning?!

Definitely worth updating. It's faster and smoother than iOS 9, very stable, and personally I like the new features.

ETA: I have a 6S.

That makes no sense. If the OP would have activated iCloud Photo Library it would have been the same as activating Google Photos, minus the datamining problem.

conspiracy theories aside .... the difference is 'free' storage capacity. Google offer unlimited storage, and it's cross platform. It is regardless of anything else, a far more versatile solution.

But it is not a solution to the OP problem, just a plug for Google. Additionally, Google Photos compresses the photos more.

(My mum restored her phone via iCloud and got all her photos back. Thank god.)

I use iCloud Photo Library and Google Photos myself, but since it was my mums phone she didn't really know to turn iCloud Photo Library on. I'm sure she would have if she knew what it was.

Google Photos is better than iCloud Photo library, IMO. (Other than the datamining, ofc. Why else would it be free? :p) And it only compresses images that are 16MP+.

Sometimes people need to simply get over themselves. I offered a recommendation for 'future' reference. One that would have allowed access to those photos on ANY device or computer. End of .....

Congratulations, I am happy for you and your mum

By the way, Google compresses the file size of all photos, if you want unlimited storage. You can choose "original", but then it counts to the limit of 15 GB.

OK, why the personal insult? I offered clarification of potentially misleading information. Perhaps you should consider your own signature a bit more...

What if I choose High quality and I back up photos taken with a high-resolution camera?

If the camera takes photos with 16 megapixels (MP) resolution or lower, most stored photos will essentially look the same using either storage option.

If the camera takes photos with a resolution higher than 16 MP, then photos will be downsized to 16 MP.

-----

Given no iPhone shoots over 12mp the compression argument is pretty much moot as icloud also uses compression.

And you sir were the one who acted put out that someone would suggest a Google product, and began with the paranoid data mining response. Nobody else had issues with the suggestion including the OP.

Nowadays there is nothing you can get for free (you even pay for fresh air - climate tax)... there is nothing better than personal cloud or USB HDD drive for your database...

If you really are so naive to believe that the main business model of Google like that of Facebook is not to mine our personal data for monetary gain, then I have nothing more to say. Hereby I end this fruitless discussion which is OT anyway.

WhatsApp is using the default Tritone for notifications eventhough I have it set with Bell, is this a bug from them or iOS? Anyone else experiencing this?
