Depending on how much you have on your phone, indexing can take as little at 15 minutes. I can start testing my battery after about 2 hours. I know by the end of the day I installed the beta if battery life is better or worse.

Right... I don't have a lot on my phone so it doesn't take that long.

It's funny how some people think indexing takes days. No faith at all in modern computing. :(
Has indexing ever been proven to actually happen on iPhones? I keep hearing it mentioned but have never seen confirmation that it's a thing, much less that it affects performance for whatever amount of time.

If you run Xcode and use instruments you can see that your processor is shuffling around right after an update. And depending on how much you have on your phone it could last minutes to a couple hours. Additionally you can download some apps in the App Store that offer CPU usage tracking.

Well, in order for search in Photos and in Spotlight to work, the phone needs to index (record the existence of) all of its files into databases for easy and fast searching. Each app does indexing to a certain extent (for example, the Photos app looks through your photos and uses algorithms to determine their contents for searching. The Music app also generates databases containing all of the information about your library, such as tracks and artwork).

Realistically, Spotlight indexing likely takes only 5 to 10 minutes on a 6S/7. Music indexing takes about a minute. Photo indexing I'm not sure about considering it has to do a bit more work, but it likely doesn't exceed 20-30 minutes.

I keep seeing this, "that battery life on beta 6 was incredible". Its so weird to me that others are having that experience when beta 6 was absolutely horrible for myself. Beta 5 and beta 7 have been the best battery life I have seen with my 7Plus and beta 6 was one of the worst builds for battery life.

There are so many variables with battery life. When Location Services are used, what apps have BAF enabled, when you use LPM. Unless there's a memory leak in a version, you'll probably find it's roughly the same for each version.

No, I have noticed massive different between versions with the same exact usage. Every thing I do down to the second is the same on a daily basis. Beta 6 saw a 2 hour reduction per charge in my battery life.

As I said, so many variables...

When you are doing the same exact thing for the same exact time day after day, then you eliminate almost every single variable and all that remains is iOS itself. Therefore, I can conclude that Beta 6 had horrendous battery life for my device.

Okay then, how's beta 7 for you?

Is this a bug or is something causing it to happen to my phone only? In quick reply boxes I'll randomly get a message that duplicates and then it's stuck in the quick reply box every time that person sends me an imessage after that happens. It will be up at the top above the new messages and will stay for a good while. I cannot seem to figure out what is causing this or how to replicate it other than it seems to only happen with imessages. It has been happening since I moved to iOS 10. Thanks for any help

I understand that, but as I mentioned above. I don't think they are really going to get that much diagnostic information from beta testers in 4 days of usage before its released. If there is a problem and by time they start reading those problems, it could already be released to the public.

But the other side of that coin is that the last 3 betas have had the same exact release notes, so its hard to even know when we got the diagnostic tool. For all we know we got it in beta 5, they just never mentioned anything until earlier this week. I wish Apple was more transparent of whats going on with these builds.

My point was that if there was a problem with the diagnostic tool, such as draining your battery. These bug reports wouldn't be submitted until the weekend, by time people start figuring out what is causing the battery drain. Then Apple really wouldn't have time to fix it before releasing 10.2 unless they released 10.2 and then 10.2.1 to fix that bug. Obviously this is all speculation, but its food for thought.
This is all speculation as we don't really know the battery diag was added at all to this build. Could have been something totally different. (maybe turning off some logging since batt seems better) Also regarding bold above, what you mean they wont have time? There is no set date they are going to release 10.2. So if this beta pukes or causes issues then they will fix whatever before releasing a final or beta 8.

There's no Videos app on my iPhone 7 plus anymore. Rented a movie on iTunes and doesn't let me play it. App isn't listed on App Store either. Lame.

Edit. It's on the tv app.

Edit 2: rented movie doesn't show up on Apple TV. So I have to Airplay it.

On my 7 Plus, plugging in Lightning EarPods seems to make the device think it's connected to a charger. Whenever I plug the EarPods in, the usage and standby numbers always revert back to dashes.

Question: when you AirPlay something like a movie from iTunes, does the movie stream over the WiFi network from the device, or is the data pulled down directly to the Apple TV?

The former.

Every since the TV app came out, this has been my beta update workflow:

  1. Update to the latest beta
  2. Find the Videos.app has been removed from my "Entertainment" folder and is hiding on a 2nd page of apps.
  3. Move it back to the "Entertainment" folder on my first page of apps.
  4. Update to the latest beta
  5. Find the Videos.app has been moved.
  6. Lather
  7. Rinse
  8. Repeat
So weird that this keeps happening.
Me too

Exact same issue, it is probably the most annoying bug I've seen for a while...! I've lost many good songs from this, also doesn't help that Apple removed the play history view in iOS 10, why we will never know.
The play history thing is really annoying. I used that all the time.

This is the first release where the TV app actually works on my iPod Touch. It. It no longer says "not available ".
I deleted it two betas back, with this release I was able to re download TV app from the store. Now keep both video and TV apps or delete video one?

Well thats an odd one. Not happening on my 7Plus. But I am using old lightning headphones with the adapter.
