My iPhone 7 (AT&T) locked up this morning on the home screen. A hard reset got stuck at the apple logo. While messing around on the computer getting iTunes open and seeing how to DFU a 7 it came back. Took about 10 minutes. Did another hard reset and that one took about 4 minutes.Another one after that took about 4 minutes. Strange. Anyone else with unusually long boot times?

When closing a folder, there is a short amount of time where the folder is unresponsive to a tap. Is anyone else seeing this issue? I'm on the public beta.
Yes. If using the home button to close the folder I do see that. Not sure if it's been that way in the past though. I usually tap to the side of the open folder to close it which does not result in this delay.

It's unbelievable how much smoother the app close animation is. They did an excellent job at closely matching the older iPhone animation without compromising the responsiveness of the home button.

Why are people saying the folder animations is slow? It looks perfectly normal to me

A possible explanation for the increase of usable space:
iOS devices have two partitions:
System (iOS and built-in apps)
Data (your stuff)
The System partition on any given iPhone model had to be big enough to accommodate any increase in storage needed for future iOS releases. For example, under the iPhone 4s' lifespan, iOS doubled in size!
Repartitioning after-the-fact isn't always a reasonable thing to do. iOS 1 -> iOS 2 required a repartition for this very reason and was done clumsily by using iTunes to automatically copy everything off the phone before putting it all back.

So...enter APFS.
One of APFS' new features is the ability to have multiple "partitions" on the same device that dynamically share the same space, rather than permanently separating them at birth.
This means Apple no longer needs to cordon off a big chunk of space for future upgrades, and can give it back to the user.

Are the animations running at 60 FPS now or something? They actually look smoother on my SE, despite me never actually noticing any difference from 10.1 (and being unwilling to ever comment on this).

The ones I've specifically observed are:
- Folder opening on Home Screen
- App Switcher
- Closing apps

Try changing your wallpaper to something else. Try something with less detail or a dynamic background. Try a few different wallpapers until you find one that smooths out the animations. It makes a difference. Nobody seems to believe me, but certain wallpapers will make your iPhone run more smoothly.

Try these ones for example.

EDIT: I just noticed you said SE... the wallpaper trick only works for the iPhone 7 Plus as far as I know. I think it has to do with the low power cores. For some reason certain wallpapers make the iPhone 7 Plus run better than others.

Does anyone still have the red number one icon on the Settings app even after installing the software update?

I'm sure it's been discussed but am I the only one who is bothered with the black app opening (native Apple apps; when you first open it)? Maybe I just got used to it being white but it just looks so out of place.

I think it's part of the new animation. It's a lot of my apps too though not all. I know it gets tossed around a lot but maybe actual first steps towards a dark mode?

This is quite interesting, and would explain what I saw in this screenshot.

It reminds me of ZFS; I wonder if APFS's architecture took ideas from ZFS. I'm certainly not going to complain as ZFS is an amazing filesystem!

Its always been like this, you have to wait for the animation to complete before you can do anything else on the home screen.

I notice certain lags and stutters every now and then with the launch/close animations but not enough to say it's necessarily "slower". I like them personally because I think they all flow (similar direction, same launching/closing animation how it fits back into folder when returning to home screen). It'll get more stable with future betas

I noticed that my pictures that I save or screen shot do not appear in the roll until I restart the phone. Also, phone locks up and I can not click anything on the screen and have to restart. Anyone else>?

Screenshots and photos work fine for me. The freezing, yeah. I had it on my 6s when I was using a lot of apps. It actually respringed 3 times. I didn't try to restart it.

Edit: Woah signal and battery at 99.

Neat! I didn't know that data was still available with sandboxing...
Seems to settle it. System and Data share the same pooled data.
I wonder what that third partition is for...

I think at this point apple is saving dark mode for IOS 11.

Oh yeah I agree. I'm just saying maybe it's the first actual iteration. Kind of like the more rounded launch corners and some are saying it could be due to the next iPhone being a little more round so speculation at best lol

I always had a good battery life but 10.3 beta 1 battery is just brilliant on 7 plus , even though analytics is always on to send.

Interesting - can you provide a wallpaper for iPhone 7 Plus that makes it run better?

Definitely a battery drain. Weather Line has been on screen for one minute and Background App Refresh is disabled and it doesn't require your location...

There's two other partitions, /private/var/wireless/baseband_data and /dev.

Have a iPhone 6s. IOS 10.3 Beta 1. Go to Settings, Notifications - have 78 apps listed. Scrolling up or down and it is flawlessly smooth. I like how 10.3 is feeling and responding so far.

Do you have iPhone 6 on beta? Is it responsive?
