All this cos of a random twitter guy saying it, its rubbish nothing is gonna come out jan 10 apart from same 10.2.1 release maybe

It's not just some random guy, it's someone who has a track record for having inside info on future Apple releases. He has been right many times before.

That being said I wouldn't hold my breath for dark mode, I'm no expert but doesn't that seem like an ios 11 feature? don't developers need time to implement this in to their apps etc... seems to me like something this big which impacts the entire OS would take more test time and be implemented in a big iOS release.

If "theatre mode" is dark mode, I'm going to be annoyed. I'm all for dark mode as a customization choice, but it should not be presented as a tool to provide jerks entitled justification for not turning their phones off in a cinema or theatre. ANY light from a phone at all, is distracting and inconsiderate to people around you. Yeah. I'm that guy.

My worrry is that by calling it theatre mode it means it's not just a dark UI but it pairs this feature with other things like DND, low screen brightness.

Kind of like how people liked reduce motion for the quicker app launch animation, but didn't like it when Apple started to reduce motion in more and more areas...

How did people start linking theater mode to dark mode in the first place? I'm struggling to understand why a popcorn icon would mean dark mode.

What's the logic, friends?
Theatres are dark. iPhones are less bright and distracting when displaying dark UI.
What's your idea?

Just let the attendants know. Theaters around here will kick people out

There's every chance it is a Dark Mode. They wouldn't call it such as that's what everyone else it calling it. They'd call it something else so that when it is released it's unexpected.

Invert colors and grayscale and night shift can work without restart or anything like that, seems like something like this could as well.

A 'dark mode' in essense has to modify the UI elements to change the UI. The inversion of colours and grayscale are all filters applied to what the screen projects, and not separate UI elements. In a 'dark mode', the separate UI elements would have to be changed separately (e.g. Your wallpaper still has to stay the same while widget backgrounds change to a darker colour). This means that it could potentially require a restart, but yeah Apple will probably work something out if it happens.

Other mobile operating systems have dark/light/custom themes which can be switched to without a restart. Maps goes from dark to light mode with no problem. The iTunes Store switches between dark and light for different tabs. Plenty of third party apps handle theme changes on the fly. It's really not a big issue.

It'll really depend on how Apple implements it, as a Control Center toggle it'll probably not require a full restart, but apps will need to be opened again/switched to for them to take the new appearance.

Weird that there hasn't been any leaks with screenshots of theater mode by now when some users already have it installed. I want dark mode more than any other iOS feature, I'm constantly blinded by the all the white space in iOS especially at night in bed time even with Night Shift. So, I'm really hoping this comes along, but I'm very doubtful given no leaks by now.

I'm kind of confused. Would dark mode really make it easier on your eyes in the dark because iPhones and iPads have IPS displays which means that every pixel is on when the screen is on while OLED can turn off individual pixels when displaying black.

Sure, there's certainly a possibility that it could require something like a restart. As there is a good amount of possibility that it wouldn't.

The brightness a color of the pixels (among other things) play quite a bit of role as well.

No one will truly know what 10.3 will offer us until someone in this forum installs 10.3 beta 1. We'll find out soon enough.

I could imagine that you adjust theatre mode in settings like

- DND on/off
- Low battery mode
- night shift off

and then you can toggle theatre mode in control center on and off. Would be nice.
