I normally hang back from new versions but I jumped on iOS 11 at the 11.1 update for the KRACK patch. Shame on you Apple for not patching in iOS 10, and no, I haven't forgotten FaceTime on iOS 6. ;)

I was excited to check out updates for Apple Maps (specifically lane guidance) and was disappointed to not see lane guidance on the interstates around me. My very first trip with Apple Maps iOS 11 was just a short trip with four main roads and the speed limit was displayed incorrectly on <drum roll> all four roads. Yup. Zero out of four roads had the wrong speed limit.

Moving on... I'm getting random inability to select and copy text in both Apple and third party apps. I just had Find My Friends show a blank white screen, and when I powered down and back up I received six new message notifications all at once from messages I've received this morning (but I do appreciate not getting the message at 6:45 am from my kid because I was still asleep). :)

Anyway, iOS 11 is what I expected: A hot mess so far. I'm an IT guy and I understand the struggles with a new major version. But here's the thing: I didn't want iOS 11. Apple finally had iOS 10 silky smooth. I had to choose between stability or security (and guess which always wins). And Apple stopped signing iOS 10 so we're stuck.

There's more but I've ranted almost enough. It's been a long time since I needed to regularly close apps or reboot. Given the choice now I would give up most WiFi, stay on iOS 10 and risk KRACK (I'm not a big hotspot user anyway). Eventually iOS 11 will be baked and life will be good until some event forces me to upgrade to iOS 12 and I climb back in the hamster wheel and suffer the bugs. I'm no longer a power user. I have 187 apps on my phone and regularly use less than 10 of them (about half are apple apps). I've only upgraded for camera improvements for years. I've used AirDrop once just to see if it would work. All the c**p Apple has added lately means nothing to me. I'm not a big fan of form over function and realize I'm an old f**t and not Apple's target other than I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford an iPhone.

This fall is the first time I didn't buy a new iPhone on release because the iPhone 8 wasn't compelling enough and no way am I going to jump on a completely redesigned iPhone X after mediocre experiences with their other innovations like the iPhone 5 and Touch ID. I had three phones eligible on the upgrade program, but I instead paid them all off and intentionally gave up my upgrade eligibility. I'll check back in a few years. /rant

Let me ask you a couple of questions:

1. Did you verify if iOS 11 runs the same on other people's iPhones near you or are you basing your conclusion on your phone only?
2. Did you restore your phone as NEW to eliminate a possible user specific data/app combination being your problem?

There are at least 15 co-workers I socialize with at work that have iPhones running iOS 11. Being the "iPhone guy" everyone goes to, the only complaint that I've heard so far was from a sales rep that had a battery drain issue that was resolved by restarting his phone.
i'm speaking based on the facts that i've been an ios user since ios 6 , 7 , 8, days and yes everyone around me has got that multiple issue or the other concerning ios 11 and number 2 i know what's up trust me i've done reset and even restored my phone via itunes ... & set it up as new !

That's strange to be honest. The people running iOS 11 around me don't seem to be experiencing any issues and those around you are. For What It's Worth I've been using iOS since 3.0.

I have to join the chorus of regrets here. I have an iPhone 7+, 256GB, AT&T. Since updating to 11 (and its subsequent .x releases):
  • My battery life has diminished by more than 30%. Got between 7.5 and 8 hours of active use from a full charge on 10; get around 5 hours on 11.
  • The notifications panel just disappears for no apparent reason. If I activate when the screen is locked, all I see is my wallpaper. I have to restart the phone to get it to display again.
  • If I'm talking on the phone while it's locked, the phone control panel screen will randomly activate. I've been using AirPods and keeping the phone in my pocket. I'll suddenly hear touch tones, and it's because the control panel has activated, and then the key pad opens and random brushing against my leg presses the numbers.
  • Cellular service, call quality, and data speed has degraded. I rarely get more than 2 bars indoors or out, and streaming video over cellular is choppy, even at low quality.
I've always upgraded to X.0 releases within a week of the general release, but Apple has done its user base a disservice with iOS 11. It still feels like a beta, and each subsequent release is met with disappointment as it fails to correct any of these issues. I'll probably do a factory reset of the phone over the weekend to see if it clears up any of these problems; as somebody who works in software, I would be mortified if I had to tell a customer that was the only course of action to correct bugs spawned by an update.

They said vs. They said.
Your claim of no issues is great. It doesn't prove that peoples issues are all fake. You could be the outlier.
My coworkers on 11 have a mix of good and bad, both in functionality and impression.

Early regrets updating my iPhone 7 to iOS 11. For the first time as an iOS user (2009) I have series battery drain issues. I'm constantly force quitting apps and sticking it on a charger on lunch breaks to boost it up. Also the OS animations (closing apps, opening to home screen, etc...) are choppy which is inexcusable on a 1 year old phone.

Apple also removed features in the podcast app which I relied on, and the new App Store feels poorly designed. My car also nows decides to auto-play from the Apple Music app, instead of the podcast app, which it never did before in 7 years.

Hopefully some of these issues will be ironed out in subsequent updates.

The lag when typing is ridiculous. I have the 6s Plus. You literally have to wait 2 or more seconds before you can type anything again. Rebooting temporarily fixes it, then it starts all over again.

If you haven’t, as ugly as it is, a factory reset and manual reload - not from backup - has shown to help with functional issues. I did it for app and springboard crashes and it helped a lot. A friend did it for call issues.
Not saying it is your solution, just a possible for your consideration.

seriously you have spoken the truth , the way ios 11 notifications lock screen whatever they called it for combining it and making it one now is way too laggy and buggy and that happens to me to on my device where I just get a plain wallpaper screen on the notifications center ; you try swiping down and nothing happens until you make a restart pretty annoying huh , ios 10 notifications centerwas okay ... please let's use this link to make complaints on apple feedback website cuz apple support don't even seem to be of any help to me all they'll ask you to do is send some stupid ass crash files and log files to them ... here's the link for feedback https://www.apple.com/feedback/

yeah let me tell you when you do a manual restore with itunes and wipe the phone as new let me tell you that the bugs would go away for a while and then come back again .. that's pretty frustrating now cmon ios 10 wasn't this bad for real ! I told one of them apple advisor on speaking to them on apple support that why release an ios when it's not ready yet and then kill peoples phones .. he was like they are aware of the issue and working and looking for phones with bugs .. you can imagine !

I’m having tons of problems with Pages docs that are saved to iCloud with iOS 11. Lots of Pages docs won’t open. They just duplicate over and over displaying the pen logo instead of the text. The icons flip between Evernote and PDF Expect’s logo then back to the Pages pen logo. The files app is awful. I’m an admitted Apple fanboy and iOS 11 is slowing my workflow. I was even in a meeting and a Pages doc refused to load. First time that’s ever happened.

This is strange to hear because I have no issues on my year older 6s.

Battery drain can be caused by many issues but first thing to check is iCloud Photo Library, not it uploads pictures when phone not plugged in. Also Spotlight and Photos take initial time to index I guess it's not your problem. Also check GPS permission and make sure no app has "Always" permission — this is biggest drain problem.

In terms of apps crashing I wouldn't blame Apple, it mostly developers fault, apps tend to break around iOS update because Apple deprecates old API's and devs who didn't follow Apple get punished. Also when devs rush to update their app they can break stuff just by accident.

Try to download Overcast app maybe it will serve you better. It had CarPlay version too.

Because Metal 2 now used in UIKit animation should be smoother, this is not right. I hate to say this but maybe you should try to reset and restore or reset and start clean.
[doublepost=1510577155][/doublepost]Every year people update and claim old version to be better. Is this greener grass case or maybe we compare most stable version at the end of its life with new release. I think both. It's unfair to compare fresh release, give it time and don't forget that old version never going to get all sweet new features and improvements.

I have a 6 and my wife a 6s, iOS 11 is a disaster. Performance seems a bit better with 11.1, but still lots of lag at times. Battery life still way down. Have a few friends that report the same issues with iOS 11.

Was expecting things to be more stable by 11.1, but I guess with Apple we will have to wait till x.2 now. Had the same issues with OSX lately as well and refuse to upgrade to High Sierra.

I understand software releases can have issues, but PLEASE do not push upgrades to users till it is ready!!!!! Apple should never have the upgrade option send to users till iOS was stable and ready. There are a host of people complaining about iOS 11. Frankly it is an embarrassment to Apple.

This is the kind of issues I saw with early Android phones way back in 2009-2011 and why I have recommended people move to iOS at the time. Apple really needs to get their act together as the iOS upgrade experience is one the biggest reasons why I have been recommending iPhones to friends, etc. If they don't fix iOS 11 and make very sure the next release is handled better they will see a lot of people move to other choices. iOS is the reason people buy iPhones given the dozens of good hardware choices on Android.

11.2 isn’t any better than 11.1. Battery life is still the same.

To Be Honest you're so correct ! why push updates out to everyone and make ios experience a bad one for us I keep saying that ios 10 wasn't this buggy and laggy but with ios 11 everything is slower and buggy + laggy !!! let's keep sending our feedbacks to them https://www.apple.com/feedback

It’s planned obsolescence. I am sure of it. Every Apple device which is older always slows down and never recovers its original performance

that's crap but why so early on devices that are just 3 years old ..even the newer devices also suffers some lags and bugs, i regret updating to 11 I should have stayed on my 10 and one thing for making downgrade impossible is entirely stupid

It's not just performance, though. Even on iPhone X, things like animations in the Calculator app, for instance, take a long time to finish so you have to wait for each button to stop glowing before you press the next one.

It's just a case of designers at Apple not paying any attention at all. It's fairly easy to see that different people designed different aspects and none of them talked to any of the others prior to release.

Why haven't you installed a tvOS profile yet to avoid updates until you are ready?
