I normally hang back from new versions but I jumped on iOS 11 at the 11.1 update for the KRACK patch. Shame on you Apple for not patching in iOS 10, and no, I haven't forgotten FaceTime on iOS 6.
I was excited to check out updates for Apple Maps (specifically lane guidance) and was disappointed to not see lane guidance on the interstates around me. My very first trip with Apple Maps iOS 11 was just a short trip with four main roads and the speed limit was displayed incorrectly on <drum roll> all four roads. Yup. Zero out of four roads had the wrong speed limit.
Moving on... I'm getting random inability to select and copy text in both Apple and third party apps. I just had Find My Friends show a blank white screen, and when I powered down and back up I received six new message notifications all at once from messages I've received this morning (but I do appreciate not getting the message at 6:45 am from my kid because I was still asleep).
Anyway, iOS 11 is what I expected: A hot mess so far. I'm an IT guy and I understand the struggles with a new major version. But here's the thing: I didn't want iOS 11. Apple finally had iOS 10 silky smooth. I had to choose between stability or security (and guess which always wins). And Apple stopped signing iOS 10 so we're stuck.
There's more but I've ranted almost enough. It's been a long time since I needed to regularly close apps or reboot. Given the choice now I would give up most WiFi, stay on iOS 10 and risk KRACK (I'm not a big hotspot user anyway). Eventually iOS 11 will be baked and life will be good until some event forces me to upgrade to iOS 12 and I climb back in the hamster wheel and suffer the bugs. I'm no longer a power user. I have 187 apps on my phone and regularly use less than 10 of them (about half are apple apps). I've only upgraded for camera improvements for years. I've used AirDrop once just to see if it would work. All the c**p Apple has added lately means nothing to me. I'm not a big fan of form over function and realize I'm an old f**t and not Apple's target other than I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford an iPhone.
This fall is the first time I didn't buy a new iPhone on release because the iPhone 8 wasn't compelling enough and no way am I going to jump on a completely redesigned iPhone X after mediocre experiences with their other innovations like the iPhone 5 and Touch ID. I had three phones eligible on the upgrade program, but I instead paid them all off and intentionally gave up my upgrade eligibility. I'll check back in a few years. /rant
