Correct me if I’m wrong but around iOS 5 or iOS 6, weren’t there switches in settings that were activated over the server without requiring an update? Something to do with automatic app downloads and iCloud. It was the same day as WWDC I think.

I’m sure Apple Pay cash will be activated the same way.

Edit: Just found out, it was with iOS 4.3.3. They updated iTunes on the server for iCloud and enabled automatic app downloads in settings.
the same happened in Italy when apple pay was activated, no iOS update, only a server-side configuration changed.

That's incorrect. iOS 10.3.2/watchOS 3.2.2/ macOS 10.12.5 was shipped May 15th, with Apple Pay in Italy being activated on the server-side on May 17th. Technically Apple activated the Payment Engine on the devices with the respective OS-Update

Wonder if the 15B93 will be the one released next week

Public release next Monday !!
I would agree with this. I know that @Madscotsman indicated maybe Tuesday, but he claimed he was guessing.

If history repeats itself (which is a slim chance these days) it will be Monday as most X.1 releases have been on Monday and I don’t know if Apple would release on Halloween.

Difference is it’s coming with a new product. Usually the OS is released 2-3 days before the hardware. So Tuesday or Wednesday makes more sense.

I don’t see why that matters though. Thoughts?
I guess its just the "pattern" that we typically see when it comes to iOS and hardware being released at the same time. I'm not saying it cannot deviate, but its in line with the past and what Madscotsman has predicted.

Gotcha. To me it would make more sense to release it on Monday in case there is a critical bug that wasn’t caught in the betas (which seems to have happened a lot in iOS 11 thus far). Maybe give them some time to release an 11.1.1 by Friday for the X. I know it’s not that simple though, just thinking out loud.

I agree that that would be a smarter move as well. Being that iOS 11 isn't as polished as some past versions. Maybe Apple will surprise us. I'm running 11.1 on my Air 2 and its surprisingly good. I wasn't having many issues with 11.0.3 on it, so with it being more fluid, definitely cant complain. I typically avoid betas on my phone, but being that this is probably the final, I will probably install it over the weekend. It was only a 171MB update for my Air on 11.0.3, so its already set up as a delta.

I agree that 11.1 is a step in the right direction, but also that iOS 11 is not as polished as previous versions. I’m still having lots of stutters and graphical issues, but my biggest complaint is the unresponsive home button and sometimes even power button when the phone is locked. Drives me bonkers. iPhone 7 here.

One thing on my 8Plus that is driving me insane is the random system stutter when you unlock the device. Poor CPU or RAM management but I have to close out all my apps, lock the phone, then unlock it again. Then it goes away. Only happens on my 8, not my Air 2.

This!!. It drives me nuts too. Especially when you are listening to music and unlock the phone to go to home screen. Sometimes even freezes for a split second. iPhone 8 Plus here.

the point is that it was not necessary the update, because the activation was triggered by a server side configuration (apple pay code was already in the os). the fact that apple decided to enable that configuration only for the latest release was because they want you to run always the latest os version.
