You just don't get it. Continuity is a feature of iOS, why would I not use that if I want to take advantage of the features. Saving a draft is an extra step than just clicking the icon on the second device. Syncing web history has absolutely nothing to do with what I am talking about. I could start typing this message to you on one device and pick it up on another device. I have done this countless times over the years. Automatic hotspot is another feature of continuity that I use quite frequently because of my WiFi only iPad.

I couldn't careless what your usage is. My point still stands. Leaving bluetooth on uses battery life. I haven't said how much it uses, but it still uses battery power. When something is on, it uses energy. It may be efficient but it is still using more than when its off. If you used continuity, you would see the impact of using that feature. That is why, like I have already mentioned. I turn BT off when I am not in need of that feature on my Air 2. I have noticed the difference in battery life over the years. You don't use these features, therefore you cannot comment on the use of battery life for these features via bluetooth. So can we please stop this logical fallacy "it doesn't affect me so its not an issue".

Actually, MacRumors Forums saves your replies automatically too so I could technically stop this post right now, go to my Mac and continue it there without continuity.

Also, why would you wanna stop typing something in the middle of it and continue on another device? Just finish on one freaking thing.

I still can't think of one single reason I'd use continuity. I can already do all of those things without it. Hah

If you check my edit, there are things that you must use continuity for, such as calls on other devices, universal clipboard, SMS/MMS forwarding and more. Just because YOU don't find it useful does not mean OTHERS don't. Live your own iOS life and stop with the logical fallacies.

And really, you don't think auto-hotspot is useful? Have to enter your password every single time you connect to your own hotspot. Good grief.

The point is, leaving Bluetooth on is an non issue. It doesn't waste battery.

And yet you are so wrong. Every single "battery savings tips" include turn off bluetooth.

I just tried out handoff and it only uses Bluetooth when it's needed. It connected for a second while I pasted something and then it disconnected immediately.

That's pretty cool! It's still efficient even with handoff enabled.

Thanks man! I'm gonna use this feature more now that I know it's not always connected.

Bluetooth used to be a battery hog, but times have changed. Welcome to the future! Leave Bluetooth on and stop worrying all the time. You'll have a better life!

By the way, how exactly do I use safari on my iPad to pickup where I left off on my iPhone??

This is an iOS11 Specuation thread, not Bluetooth discussion.
And calling it boring contributes how? At least the discussion about Bluetooth is still a conversation.

Originally tried beta 1 and 2 on my 7 Plus, decided to give beta 4 a whirl and it feels pretty good. The only issues I have are the random resprings and the lock dim issue.
Hmm. I may still hold off then. Thanks for the reply.

Bluetooth does increase battery drain, not as much as it used to in the past, but its still there.

two week turnaround for updates, developer beta and public beta are the exact same versions, just the public is released a day or two later.

Back to speculating:

Beta 5 Aug 7th
Beta 6 Aug 21st (final beta if event is Sept 6th)
Beta 7 Aug 28th (final beta if event is Sept 12th)
GM day of event. Will be either Sept. 6th or Sept. 12th.

How much though?

Someone should do a test with everything off for 24 hours, then check battery level. Then do the same thing for 24 hours with bluetooth on (just idle) and see what the difference is.

That's impossible to say, BT cycles between "sleep, "scanning" and connected to devices depending on what is around you.

BT low energy uses max 15mA transferring data, so you're talking a negligible amount leaving it on all day not connected. From what I can find tenths of a mAh just in standby an on. A few mAh of your battery that is 1960/2900 regular/plus per day.

With BT LE it's not really necessary to turn it off unless you never use it. I keep it off since I never use it.

I think people just get paranoid. Just use and enjoy your devices people! They're meant to be used. I find it ridiculous when people choose to lose out on a lot of features because they feel like they have to turn everything off all the time and close all their apps after using just one.

To each their own. I’m not going to leave on something that I never use anyway, especially if I may get even the smallest amount of battery savings. Do that with multiple features that you don’t use and it may add up to be significant.
