He hasn't said the date of the next beta but said that there would be another beta before the keynote. For what it's worth, he noted that the keynote wouldn't be in early September.

So the keynote will be later than usual? That's somewhat awkward, but that gives us better time for additional beta releases. If it's not going to be early-September we would start looking at 14th or later.

Not odd at all. Theyre working on a totally different screen technology and processes which cuould be taking longer.

But mainly I believe they want to have the 10 year event in the new campus (and Steve Jobs Theater) which is not quite 100% complete yet.

If the event is coming later than September 6th, then it makes sense that another beta will come. But if the event is September 6th, then no more betas.

To be fair he said ‘I wouldn’t expect a keynote that early in September’ which to me sounds like he doesn’t know. Also because last year it was on Sept. 7th.

Could still be one next week.

No, there won't be one next week if the event is Sept 6th. There needs to be a 2-3 week gap like all previous years. The only reason why last year was different was because there was an issue that needed to be fixed. Hence the reason why the GM was 10.0.1 and launch day phones had 10.0 installed.

Just curious but why does there "need to be 2-3 week gap like all the previous years"?

Because new iPhones are being produced and the GM needs to be loaded on them. This is made obvious by the fact that iPhones received 10.0.0, even though the final public release was 10.0.1. They had to have a GM candidate ready for the production of new phones.

I'm going with one more beta before GM.

They still haven't fixed the storage bug with System taking a ton of space, they won't make a release with a storage bug GM, so there's going to be at least 1 more beta IMO.

Remember, a large amount of bug fixes come between the last beta and the GM because of the longer gap between seeds. It gives them the time to finalize everything.

But wait, you just said that gap was to get new devices loaded. If they are loading new devices how they still working on new seeds? Also its been said many times that Apple is several versions ahead of the betas that are released to dev and public testers. I believe all this is simply speculation and good theories. :)

Apple being several builds ahead internally is neither speculation nor a theory. I have been told directly by software engineers that this is actually the case. This is precisely why another beta would do no good in working towards the GM as the GM is most likely just about completed and any bugs reported now would not make their way into iOS until 11.0.1 or later. Not sure why there is so much hostility against this, its been this way for 10 years.

Not hostile, (guess you missed the :) ), just speculation and trying to understand your two theories/statements that 1) the delay is so they can load on new devices and 2) that the delay gives them more time to fix bugs. Which negates theory 1.

But does it really? I don't see the contradiction. It's not like they start the GM after the last beta. It's a work in progress and will contain bug fixes that had not made their way into the latest betas. Therefore, consisting of more big fixes.

Even despite the reddit guy saying we’ll have one more beta? I was leaning towards the second one myself until I saw that. Dude has a 100% track record thus far.
If the event is the 6th, no more betas. If the reddit guy is claiming a later event than usual, then another beta might make sense.

I really want it to be the 6th. I’m assuming by this though he means that there will be another beta with the GM on the 12th by saying not to expect the keynote that early. The 12th is still early September but not “that early”, and would follow the 2 week GM waiting rule that follows the last beta.

If I’m not completely off, Apple announced its events around 10 days earlier. That being said, if Apple doesn’t send out invitations by the end of this week, the keynote will be in CW 37 at the earliest.

https://www.macrumors.com/2016/08/29/apple-iphone-7-media-event/

Apple sent out invites for the keynote on Aug 29th last year which was held on Sept 7th, so I’d give it exactly a week from now.

Edit: Did some digging and made this list of all past invite/keynote dates for some context:

2012
Sept 4th - invite
Sept 12th - keynote

2013
Sept 3rd - invite
Sept 10th - keynote

2014
Aug 28th - invite
Sept 9th - keynote

2015
Aug 27th - invite
Sept 9th - keynote

2016
August 29th -invite
Sept 7th - keynote
