Here’s to hoping beta 10 finally gives me smooth animations when closing/opening apps. My 7 Plus animations have been choppy since beta 1.

I don't know if he was bulls*****ng or not, but some guy on YouTube made a comment about how metal will be implemented throughout the whole OS making animations much smoother but only when it finally releases. He said that Federighi said it somewhere in an interview but I couldn't find any info regarding him saying that, so take this with a large pinch of salt.

We can just close this thread already, everyone is 100% sure about things all the time and they get proven wrong time and time again. :p

I think you are mistaking someone saying something vs someone claiming something to be fact.

And they said it couldn't (or wouldn't) be done :)

iOS 11.0.1 must be coming right behind 11.0 or like I said, going straight to 11.0.1. New iPhones have already been built and already have 11.0 GM installed.
Just curious, but how do you know phones are already built and how Apple loads firmware on them and when? And how these betas will be a future build? I mean you guys have said that for the last 3 betas and I would bet a dollar to a donut that the GM build will be a higher build revision than these betas. Just wondering where you guys are getting this info you are so sure about it because it really doesn't make since to have folks (especially public) testing iOS 11.0 betas that are not really iOS 11.0. but technically beta 1,2 and 3 of iOS 11.0.1 or 11.0.2 according to what you guys are stating from the past 3 betas. Just makes more since that these are in fact 11.0 betas that Apple will be incorporating into the public release.

Logistics. Apple needs to build 20s of millions of these phones prior to a 9/22 delivery. Which means they need to leave China by the 20th at the latest. Apple has been building the launch phones for at least a month, will need to start flashing them this week at the latest.

Because production of phones always starts in July/August?? It's been that way for years now. My launch day iPhone 7Plus was built the second week of August. And had iOS 10.0 installed. Well before the final beta was seeded, or even the GM for that matter.

OK but how long you think it takes to flash them? They don't download like the rest of us and I am sure they can dump that on them in a flash :) on an assembly line. Plus they are always delayed and "backordered" so they still have time between now and the 20th to get them flashed. Not saying you guys are totally wrong but if you have something other than your best guess that is what I am looking for. It just doesn't make since to me that the beta 8,9 and 10 released a few days apart with minor build changes are for a future iOS build UNLESS like last year 11.0.1 is the release. Then it makes more since.

IF like last year 11.0.1 is the release, then it makes more since. And quite possibly that is what's going to happen again with an 11.0.2 soon after.

[Edit] Actually didn't last years 10.0 GM have the same build # as 10.0.1 that was released?

Last years GM was 10.0.1. 10.0 was only on devices that were produced before the event.

There was no 10.0.0 ever seeded to the public, only iPhones that were produced in August/September (before the event) had 10.0.0.

somewhere warm, dark, and cozy
Beta 10 later today

No chance

Could well be a good chance if they want to get things right quickly.

I really think the next beta will be a GM next week on the keynote but would love to be wrong this is getting exciting now

No. Because none of those fixes will be implemented in the GM. iOS 11.0 is what it is. Anything going forward will be for 11.0.1 and above.

sorry, I was off by a day lol

Right what I meant was the builds. I found in my notes the following. So 10 GM was effectively 10.0.1 beta 1 and the release. And yes new phones were prompted to update to 10.0.1 before activation.

10.0 GM 14A403
10.0.1 beta 1 14A5403a
10.0.1 release 14A403

There was no iOS 10.0.1 beta 1. I'm confused at what you are saying. iOS 10.0.1 was the GM/Final public release. There was just no public release of 10.0.0 and no beta testing of 10.0.1.

Yeah, with the late betas, I think the release will be 11.0.1 As Mirollin91 said, phones produced up up until the GM is ready gets the "old" -- beta isn't the right word, but probably what Apple thought might be a GM.

It's easy when you think that Apple sells, what, 20 million iPhones over the launch weekend. You can't flash them all in the next two weeks.

No absent some absolutely critical last minute bug found.

Beta 9 was by all accounts not supposed to happen, and likely was a last minute bug/issue in Beta 8

Or not.

Many of us have not experienced the issues that some continually complain about. iOS 11 has been pretty great for me after about PB 4 or so. Battery is also getting better. #happy

"Absent some absolutely critical last minute bug found" I NEVER said no 100% no claiming some insider info.

It was likely another emergency bug fix being all of 6 days before the event/GM. There has NEVER been a new beta in under 1 week before the event/GM in the history of iOS.

In fact the shortest prior to a GM was iOS3.2 at 17 days, and iOS10 which was 18. There has never been one in under 2 weeks before at that, let alone 6 days

I know there was no 10.0 released. I think I see what happened. There was /are some threads regarding 10.0.1 beta 1 both on macrumors and other places. Apparently there was some misinformation on the build #. It was actually the 403 build same as release not the 5403a. I have a note with various builds and such I keep and that info got added on that day. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-10-0-1-beta-1-bug-fixes-and-changes.1992314/
