The calculator looks like it came out of a Fisher Price children’s toy from 1985 (I know - I was there). Seriously, it looks like a child designed it. And the control center isn’t much better.

Very visually unattractive design elements in this update.

Lol....you are right, Calculator app does look silly.

On iPad 2017 9.7, app icons are further apart.

Besides the small visual changes and quirkiness (bold text), both of my devices are running tip top. I’ll take stability and speed, over visual changes any time of the week.

Ok first thing I noticed was how awful the new calculator icon is. Second is the headers are way to bold. Also not a fan of the new app store.

What was it you didn't like about the calculator?

First impressions after day 1 on a 6S+:

The good
- now that I've seen the task switcher on the X, I kind of want it on my phone as well. Option please?
- love the screenshot annotation, good move. Already used it once today
- I love the tap and multi select tricks. You can actually use it to reorder apps: if you tap to keep adding icons to the pile, and then let go, the icons are placed with the last added app first and so on.
- The screens in the task switcher actually update at a low rate! That's new, right? Waze showed sloooow route updates while I left it centered on the task switcher
- I like the new control center

The bad

- ..but I dislike that you can't use it to toggle wifi OFF
- not a big fan of the giant bold font at the top. You open the Notes app, and it says Notes! Yes I know..
- I see way more stuttering than I used to. I hope this is still due to some initial background tasks related to the update
- the animations and transitions are definitely noticeable. The fade from dark when hitting 'wake' feels a bit slow to me. Somehow reminded me of the scene in Pulp Fiction right after Vince shoots up before heading to Mia's house. I guess what I'm saying is iOS11 makes me feel high.
- When you close an app, the home screen 'approaches' (starts slightly reduced in size). I don't really love it
- Count me as one of the people who doesn't like that the notification shade looks like the lock screen. Disorienting.
- I've had some niggles with auto brightness, seems to behave differently than before. It is on, I checked.

Overall maybe an 8/10.
Task switcher, optional....good idea.
Screenshot is great if you wanna capture something on the go. I'm glad you like that.
How do you do tap and multi select?

The icon has too much empty grey space.

The lack of 3D Touch for app switching really gets on my tits..why would they even consider taking it out? *put tin foil hat on* Are they planning on making us use the Physical home button so much that it’ll break faster > purchase another iphone?

Or they might use that gesture or something close to it for something else. Or perhaps many typical users were unexpectedly invoking it and not liking it and the low usage of the actual feature prompted them to remove it.

I don't get the concept of why they did that.

The updated design with bolder fonts, more padding and filled icons is beautiful! The new CC is perfect and Smart Invert Colours is cherry on top. Of course this could use some optimization and tweaks here and there but overall happy with the update. Also animations are blazing fast!!! (6s here)
I hope devs will update their apps to support smart invert colours because so far nothing appart stock apps support it.

Seeing too many comments of introduced lag with iOS 11. Going to stay with 10.3.3 for my 7+ for the foreseeable future since its speed is golden right now.
Good idea. Matbe .1 version?

Warning: doing this will reorder the icons that you tap. Hold app until the icon jiggles, move it a little so it's out of it's original spot (not sure if this step is needed), then while still holding it tap some other app icons with your other hand. They will stack 'under your finger'. If you now let go, all icons will reappear, in the reverse order of how you tapped. You can also drop them all together to another screen, or into an app folder.
So maybe if they placed it in order, it would be better, huh?

Just a little slower / more stutters here and there.

I'm also a rare person who doesn't even like the iPad multitasking "enhancements."

Torn on going back to 10.3.3 because procreate, my favourite iPad app, tends to make new features I do like that require the lastest ios. But I think their next release isn't for a bit so maybe I can hold off to 11.1 or so. iPhone 7 is staying on 10.3.3.

You can turn off a lot of the multitasking options. I did it for someone on their iPad as the windowing confused the heck out of them.

Is Apple sure that this isn’t a beta release? Why does it keep turning on WiFi and Bluetooth randomly? And then my iPhone keeps trying to connect to my iPad’s personal hotspot THAT ISN'T EVEN TURNED ON. What a cluster**** this release is turning out to be.

With increasing splintering between iOS devices, interfaces, and experiences, this might be the year we’ll look back and say Apple lost the plot.

I just want to clarify that there is NO lag in iOS 11. I have it installed on both my 7+ and iPad Air 2. After installing the update you'll notice that indeed things seem to go a little slower than before. That's because iOS isn't completely done with the update. Remember that spotlight in iOS 11 is very different than previous versions. The "lag" is probably due to the indexing in background. Once it's done (from couple of minutes to much longer depending on what needs indexing...) iOS is *really* fast, and smooth.
