I was a public beta tester. Prior to the public release, I restored back down to 10, experienced 10 for a bit and was so used to 11 that iOS 10 annoyed me. iOS 11 is definitely an improvement from iOS 10.

This is the best day one release I've ever experienced (going back to iOS 7). My 6s actually got faster than it was on 10.3.3, the new Control Center is awesome, and I generally like the bolder fonts apart from the massive app names at the top. My only real gripe is the merging of the lock screen and Notification Center. I think it creates unnecessary confusion.

I’m enjoying it on my iPhone 7 Plus and iPad Pro 12.9” I think it’s fast and has some really useful features, especially on the iPad Pro.

With my iPhone 7 I'm really enjoying the new update. The look is definitely cleaner and more defined.

I can definitely see a battery improvement. Overall a good experience.

However my iPad pro 9.7 is another a story. My iPad pro was stutter free before ios 11. Now I find my iPad pro stuttering a lot since I updated.

I hope it goes away because I really don't want to do a clean install.

After all day hectic-ness, how do you guys feel about ios 11? I know it's only a day, but how is your user's experience? Smooth? buggy? In what way does ios 11 improved over previous ios-es? What needs to improve? Did you regret upgrading?
Unfortunately buggy I am either going to do my classical full restore but I am debating wether going back to iOS 10 or trying 11 again...

My device seems to be sluggish now. Scrolling is more jumpy, animations are not always smooth. Not sure if there is some background updating going on or other changes that will only happen in the first day, but right now it does not feel good. I am on an iPhone 6s Plus.

Goes without saying really that it’s all about what you want. iOS 11 for sure needs a bit of spit and polish in the point releases but they problems you were describing in the other thread where way more severe than any rough edges I’m seeing.

Ugh I think I am going to do a restore to IOS 11 when I get home because I do love its added capability.

Same on iPhone 7 and iPad Pro 12.9 (2017)

This is the first time I have hated an iOS update THIS MUCH! It's so bad. I regret updating. I've never thought that before.

The biggest issues for me are the changing of the App Store layout (it looks sloppy) and that turning off WiFi or Bluetooth doesn't actually turn them off.

I do like it, install went smooth, seems to make my iPhone 7 Plus 128GB run a bit faster, however I think what Apple is doing with their icons making them look basic anc kindergartenish is nuts, the calculator looks ugly and some of the other icons are very boring. I am not sure why they do this, but I will say so far I like it.

Turning them off does turn them off. Temporarily disconnecting them doesn't.

To be honest, I really don't like the new multitasking interface on iPad. I like to access 1password alot, but I don't want it in my dock. iOS 11 basically requires me to put 1password in my dock if I want to easily access it via multitasking. iOS 10 was so much easier.

And really confused how to do split screen with apps that are open but aren't on the dock.
https://www.imore.com/ipad-drag-and-drop-multitasking-and-split-view-ios-11-everything-you-need-know

It doesn't solve my issues 100% but it was a useful guide to try to get used to it. I think there are certain things which won't let you multitask (e.g. when setting up a new email account I could not for love nor money get 1Password to work in Split View or Slide Over).

You don't have to, but you do have to use a weird multi-touch drag and drop. It's also worth noting that once you put an app (e.g. 1Password) into Slide Over or Split View and then hide it you can recall it with a simple flick from the side like you could in iOS 10. Not sure that it remains available in perpetuity but it worked for me to recall it a couple of times when doing stuff.

-Short answer, there is a downloaded section, but you have to put it as your priority selection, and still select it. There's no way to "Hide iTunes Purchases" in your library without hiding them in the store for re-download. I may want to re download this album if I lose my house, but I don't want to download it now because it had six songs that sucked.

No, music library is same as before (from what I see), but it hasn't been the same since Apple Music. I prefer Apple Music to be more like iTunes Radio, or a separate app for subscribers. The IDEA of integrating it into your personal library is nice, but it never worked with iTunes Match, and the same problems have persisted for six years. The iPod App for the first few years was fast, you could customize it depending on your needs (I used Playlists, Artists, Albums mostly), and it was fast. Even the TV App stinks compared to the Video App... it takes me a half-minute to access locally-stored videos because it assumes I want to watch their large range of "recommended" stuff for me. I'm okay with personalization, but Apple it almost looks like they are subsidizing their "we don't sell your info" with "but we want you to buy our stuff". I want my own ripped CD's/DVD's/music videos/movies front and center, not buried underneath stuff I've already bought from them. I buy all my media through Apple, so it feels like I'm being punished by buying from them in some ways.

-Purchased Apps was an error. I prefer where they put the purchased apps in the iOS store. Only 32-bit app I enjoyed was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, which was long gone before I updated.

-Pretty sure iBooks works the same way, and Health Data too. Health Data is sensitive; I can always re-download a missing book, so no big deal, but health data built up over time sucks to lose, but also sucks to have take up ten-times more space than it needs to.

I have to say, even after six years, iOS 6 was probably the most stable, best-working iOS yet. I could go on, but I'll spare you.
YES!! Others also remember!! iOS 6 was a heck of a solid OS, no doubt about it. Fast, stable, not a single bug from what I can remember.

Enter iOS 7. :(

Pretty sure there were plenty of complaints about all kinds of things even with iOS 6 (the iOS 6 forum here is a sample of that, for example).

Rose tinted spectacles are a beautiful thing

Edit: damn. Beaten by @C DM
With all due respect, it's not just the rose tinted glasses. I remember when iOS 7 released (which we can all agree was pretty bad, come on now; things are better now) and some of the stability issues and visual glitches floored me. I had never seen a software release from Apple like that before. Some of those glitches even stuck around for another OS update or two.

And it makes sense when you think about it. iOS 6 was the sixth major revision of the same design. It was rock solid at that point -- like the Porsche 911 (same basic car that's been iterated on for decades). Then came iOS 7 -- the biggest visual change to iOS up to that point. It was almost like starting over.

I remember when iOS 7 released

No-one said 7 never had issues. We're on 11 now though so I fail to see how is relevant.

It was rock solid at that point -- like the Porsche 911

6 wasn't rock solid, as you can readily see by even skimming a couple of pages of the ios 6 forum, which would have represented its best, most stable state.

Every single year there's a rash of "worst release ever" posts and this year is no different.

Edit: BTW I'm not trying to invalidate your opinion or tell you you're not entitled to one. I'm just saying, don't expect everyone to agree. A lot of people have reported being very badly with 11, even in this first release. Their opinions are just as valid.

good insight. Kind of losing appeal to this, huh? Kid-ish style, right? In what way could apple improve on those?

what is it about it that you like in regards to multitask?

iOS 11 is my favourite release of iOS since...maybe iOS 5. It runs more smoothly on my iPhone 6 than iOS 10 did; it looks better in my opinion; nearly all of the refinements made to every feature or application improve the user experience; and so far it seems to be just as power efficient as the last number of releases if not moreso than before.

I'm seriously impressed by this release and in many ways it feels to me to be a real return to form for Apple.
