After installing beta Has anyone had Instagram app display the recommendation to use Instagram’s 2 step verification with a phone number listed in Contacts that you have never given Instagram nor given the app access to your contacts? Not a phone number suggestion on keyboard but within a message from Instagram above profile in app when you first go to it.

Timing of my issue might be a coincidence, but after installing 12.1 beta earlier in the day yesterday I used my kid’s Instagram account on Instagram app to verify where a student church meeting was being held later that night, and Instagram displayed a message about use your number to set up 2 step verification for this Instagram account that listed my actual number. I never used my number setting up my kid’s account, and after checking account history no phone numbers are in this account’s phone number or profile history much less mine.

I then logged into my Instagram account and got same message, but this time a number was listed that I rarely use but do include it in my info in Contact app on iPhone to remember it just in case I need it. Since I rarely use this 2nd number to make sure I hadn’t just forgotten about using it for Instagram a long time ago I searched messages sent to that number, checked Instagram account history for any phone numbers like I did earlier, searched iPhone message app just in case, and also got sent data from Instagram for both profiles, and none of these numbers have ever been used for either of these Instagram profiles. No app has permission to access my contacts and access is locked using setting under screen time (formerly under restrictions).

Also, My Instagram profile has never been linked to my Facebook (which has been deactivated for a few weeks) and doesn’t use same email address (also neither use email associated with creating the 2nd phone#).

I know Instagram’s 2 step verification push is relatively new & hadn’t seen message before, so I can’t know for sure if it’s 12.1 beta issue or if similar would have happen had I not installed beta earlier in day. I sent feedback to Apple about it, and also I tried to submit a question to Instagram.

Is anyone else a little disappointed those of us on earlier models didn’t get the iPad gesture and clock/date placement treatment with iOS 12?

I quite like the new placement on my iPad and was kinda hoping the iPhone would get it too.

Can anyone on a xs or xs max please check the itunes trailer of deadpool 2? My xs lags randomly alot in trailers or movies but its a kind of slow stuttering so you cant really tell if its from the movie or lags. I noticed it on the trailer of extinction in the netflix app and checked the same trailer on my ps4 pro. No lags in this trailer but on my xs its lagging. The whole os/ui feels so unpolished on the xs its stupid. My 7 with ios 12 is a lot more fluid than iphone xs on ios 12.1.

I’ve just let it run 4 times one after another on my X (although had to do it through the UK store) and it played fine every time.

Possible that someone you know allowed THEIR contacts to be pushed to IG’s servers and it included your info? (This is why I don’t give them access to my contacts “so I can find friends easier”)

Yes, it’s been rebooted a few times. Profile was removed after the GM. I’d say the phone has been rebooted, and hard reset at least 3 or 4 times in between.

Same for me. I was able to go into phone storage and delete it.

I ended up taking the easy option and just updating the phone.

I probably should have thought to see if I could delete it first, but it’s not seeming buggy in use.

I don’t know, if this was present on previous versions of iOS: Reachability is very inconsequent. If you activate it, you have to swipe down from the lowered right edge (where your wallpaper ends) to activate the control center. But you can’t swipe from the lowered left edge (again where the wallpaper ends) to see drop down notifications. No no, instead you have to swipe down from ABOVE the lowered left edge of the screen (black upper part of the screen). I think, this is totally counterintuitive.

Why are you swiping from the left edge for Notification Center? Just swipe from the middle where you’re supposed to.

Hey all I have iPhone X with the 12.0 GM.. and it's buggy as hell. It crashes constantly and is just a glitchy mess. Do you think 12.1 fixes a lot of bugs? I'm thinking of updating to the beta because I'm tired of my phone crashing every time I switch between apps too quickly or use Siri (this is what causes most of the crashes).

Sounds like something isn't right with your 12.0 install.

I had tons of similar crashes with the early betas and it gradually got a bit better with each beta.. but it's still happening.. maybe even more often than the later betas

Maybe I'll just wait for 12.0.1

I would try a full reset and set up from new. Obviously do your research first as to what you will lose though. iOS 12 is extremely stable.

Try a reset all settings first before a setup as new. That may very well solve most of your issues and will keep your data and apps intact. Everything I have read about 12.1 is that its basically the same or a little more buggy than 12.0 for certain things.

Hey. My phone just updated over night to 12.1 and now I can’t access any WiFi anymore. Always says the password is wrong, even if it’s right. Does anyone else have the same issue?

I have noticed the CC is broken, starts up then quits using DirectTV Now app. This happened after I updated iso 12. Can anyone test to see if its fixed in beta 12.1? OFc i can't even update to the beta version to test it out.

Crazy how many people's phones just "decide" to update themselves while their owners are sleeping these days...

Is this the uprising?

This feature has been there a long time, if you're connected to WiFi and to a charger the iPhone loads updates but ask you to update, after you've enetered the pin before.
I'm well aware of the feature. My posts were in jest because it's pretty commonplace around here lately to see people in a tizzy because their phone "updated itself while they were sleeping".
