That’s because the 4th was a Monday and companies only gave the typical 3 day weekend off. When the 4th falls on a Wednesday, everything changes.

This....most companies that give "extra" days have given the 5th and 6th off as well.

And for those that don't, people are more likely (like me) to take the days AFTER the holiday off.

We're already at beta 2. Apple apparently did not have enough concerns to not release the Public Beta. Given that, I think we'll see the next Developer Beta on 7/9 or 10.

I know we all make the "its too dangerous to release a beta before [weekend; holiday; etc...]". I'm not sure I buy into that (the "danger" argument) any more. But I also think that Apple, like most rational actors, would prefer that, if there are going to be problems, at least to have right staff on hand to deal with it. Whether Apple gives all their people time off next week, many of them will be taking their own vacation days either before or after the 4th of July (or both). Why get caught short staffed?

I think it would be pretty brazen for TechCrunch to quote Eddie Cue if they didn't really interview him. ;)
But the quotes mention nothing about the next iOS beta. I'm not saying they didn't interview him, but without a direct source to confirm that Apple explicitly said a new beta of iOS 12 next week, I'm skeptical. If I have learned one thing from law school and the legal world, its "everyone lies".

I love this is all speculation. in 4 posts, you can get excited, disappointed, excited again, and disappointed... You almost need Xanax to read this. thread. LOL The guessing on how Apple is going to give their employees 4th of July holiday off is just funny. And yeah, one has nothing to do with the other. They COULD give holiday pay for a development team, so yes, there's a 50/50 chance of Beta 3 next week. We'll know in a few days I suppose. :)

Ah, I missed your point. Yes, I would not want to take that assertion to the bank. But, hey, Eddie Cue is entitled to speculate too!

All this stuff used to be sprinkled throughout the "iOS xx.x Beta x Bug Fixes, Changes and Improvements" threads. Was a real buzzkill there!

In all fairness, TechCrunch is reporting that, not directly from Apple. Until Apple confirms, I'm always skeptical.

Additionally, this was a statement from TechCrunch, not a quote from Apple. I think TechCrunch is speculating the next beta will drop next week. Apple is saying it will roll out to users over the course of the next year

This is what techcrunch actually said:

"The new product will launch in San Francisco and the Bay Area with the next iOS 12 Beta and will cover Northern California by fall."

"The new version of Apple Maps will be in preview next week with just the Bay Area of California going live."

From these two quotes Macrumors is inferring the next beta will drop next week.

Actually a fair inference as Apple never releases stock apps independently.

Agreed that they are inferring and no actual statement came from TechCrunch or Apple regarding the beta coming out next week. Having new map detail rolled out is a server side exercise, which wouldn’t require a software update.

But there is no new app coming.

The new Apple Maps will be the first time the data collected by these vans is actually used to construct and inform its maps. This is their coming out party.

Sounds like a new app to me. It doesn’t really matter since the content, not the shell, is the critical thing here.

The map data can and is what being released as “updated” next week.

The new map app is not coming in iOS 12.0. That is a long term goal for Apple we will likely see with a 12.X update or in the future.

I’m interpreting that iOS 12 (the next beta) allows the new maps data to be updated server side with the new information and that the beta that supports this is coming next week.

This...

Why would there ever be a new Maps app? Maps is Maps...they might change the icon, but it’s only the data that needs to change.

As an admitted map geek, I’m more excited about this than anything else iOS 12 related.

But yeah...there must be something in iOS 12 that makes the new Map update run better. It could just be that everything seems to run smoother in iOS 12. The beta has been pretty flawless for me. That’s a first!!

I am not buying the 'whole week off' idea either. Most companies only give the 1 day for the 4th not an entire week other than manufacturing companies. Also the 'danger' theory shouldn't apply to the DEV version either. Since its made for developers on secondary devices catastrophic issues wouldn't be catastrophic not to mention most of those stating this also state that Apple is always 2-3 builds ahead of whats getting released. So they should be pretty confident about a particular version to release to devs only. If we were talking about the public beta then a different story on that piece. With all that said, I say there is a possibility of a beta 3 next week.

My older sister works for an insurance company. They have Tues-Friday off. Company is closed.

Things change when the 4th is a Wednesday.

Last time July 4th was a Wednesday there was a three week gap between iOS betas. Granted it was June 25 for beta 2 and July 16 for beta 3. But still a three week gap.

In comparison, there was only a 2 week gap between beta 1 and beta 2.

You have experience with one company and I seriously doubt they shut down the entire company. Hardly a reliable pattern. Sorry, I just think everyone on here assuming that most companies (especially a company like Apple who can’t simply interrupt their operations for that long) shut down for days is silly.
