Bricked devices are fairly rare, never personally seen one myself. But the daily, needed functionality seems to have taken a giant step backwards from db2.

This is precisely why Apple has (and continues) to warn ‘thrill seekers’ to not install the betas. They simply are not ready for prime time. I’d submit that IF they were ready for public consumption and ready for prime time that they would not be called ‘beta’ or ‘preview’ releases.

If one is going to install them on their daily driver, one needs also to be prepared for issues with basic functionality from release to release.

Of course what I have said has been posted multiple times across the forums, and it’s usually met with ‘I get it... its beta, BUT...’).

Tried pushing the “Like” button multiple times. Must be that darn beta that won’t let me.

It could also be that you are unlucky to have a corrupted system and/or a lot of (non compatible) apps working in the background causing conflicts.
I have the latest DB as well and it works well.
Maybe you should wait a couple of beta versions before using unfinished software. You don’t seem to be ready using early beta software.
All my third party apps work fine. It’s only the Apple apps that have issues.
Fully aware of what beta means and entails.
However I’m just surprised at the steps backwards.
Your “ready” statement is senseless. So, we don’t mention the bad and the good here. Maybe you’re not ready to read.

And people really, really, have to understand that past performance is not indicative of future results. Any beta may be irretrievably broken in any fundamental way. If you're not in a position to deal with that, do not run the beta.

Not a thrill seeker. Testing and reporting the issues (as Apple wants done).
There’s nothing critical that doesn’t work.

The purpose of running betas is to discover and report the issues. So by not running the betas it sort of defeats the purpose.

Worse than DB2? Absolutely. A very unpolished product? Definitely. A *terrible* beta? Absolutely not. IMO.

Correct, it is not a “terrible” beta. But I’m within my place to mention the pitfalls. This thread has many such posts.
I’m certainly not saying people should avoid it.

Is whatsapp optimised for this beta?

Duplicate message notifications bug is fixed. Lost recent messages in a conversation bug is also fixed. But sending gifs right from whatsapp->photos bug is still there. Though you can send a gif from photos app (share sheet).

Some are like you and me (not going to start naming names, will inadvertently leave someone out)... but many ARE "thrill seekers". And broken stuff is part of the deal...

One final, general comment (not directed at anyone in particular and directed at everyone in general): IF you run the beta software, it is incumbent on you to report issues to Apple via the Feedback process... and then engage when requested by Apple to help research the issue(s). If you don't want to do that, just stay out of the sandbox.

"Not running the beta" does not defeat anything... it just takes that person out of the equation. There are plenty of bona fide developers and experienced hobbyists who do run the betas, while fully comprehending the responsibility and obligation to be engaged in the exercise.

Of course but that's not what I was addressing at all...

True, but beta need to progress, not regress. Now have a boatload of issues I did not have under db2.
The lack of printing, lack of photo attachments downloading to camera roll.
Just these two basic functions should never present problems. Not like they’ve doing something new.
I’ve reported more issues in last few hours than last two weeks.
Who cares if some app compatibility has been fixed when basic UI functionality doesn’t work.

Wrong. Fixes should improve not break, leaving us to move on to testing for new possible bugs.to be dealt with and reported.
I reiterate, basic UI functions should be a no brainer.
They’re not a show stopper, but should not be present.

... saying things like "basic functions should never present problems" and "Fixes should improve not break" are what I'm addressing. These are entirely false assumptions on your part. Anything can break in any beta, at any time.

And people really, really, have to understand that past performance is not indicative of future results. Any beta may be irretrievably broken in any fundamental way. If you're not in a position to deal with that, do not run the beta.

I'm not picking on you personally here and I appreciate you're posting Feedback but you really have to adjust your expectations or you will be very unhappy.

I will amend your final statement by saying the following: it is certainly ok to provide evidence of suboptimal beta performance here, provided you have also reported it.

It NOT ok to whine and complain that the beta software is not performing up to the level of polished, released software or that it is not “progressing” in a manner desired by a user.

That’s an insulting statement on your behalf. Rest assured that my reading skills are of no problems. Anyway, I think you should reconsider being on this flight since you obviously can’t take the ups and downs when it gets windy.

I thought the MAIN purpose of beta software was to give developers a few months to adjust or create apps to work well on the new software on time for public launch in September?

Having the public augment Apple engineers’ work on testing and finding bugs is secondary IMHO.

Guys, I don’t know if you realized it, but I kind of like the new behavior of 3D Touch on the home screen. If you press then move your finger downward, it quickly enters into app wiggle mode. I thought it was actually a nice touch. This works if you do haptic touch as well, but it’s much quicker the 3D Touch way. I’m attaching a gif showing exactly what it does. I wouldn’t be too upset if 3D Touch stayed this way, because I didn’t really press and drag when using 3D Touch on the home screen. It’s easy to get a force press on an icon then let go to invoke the 3D Touch menu, in my opinion.

Whoa. Yeah this is nice.

Weirdly for me the Apple SD card reader won’t work on my iPP 10.5, it’s not recognised when plugging in at all, but it works fine on my iPhone Xr.

Both are on beta 3.
Then the problem is likely related to the iPAD Pro 10.5 and lightning cable/port inconsistencies.

This beta 3 not only made some devices not work after being connected to the lightning port, it also fooled me to think the cable itself was defective. I noticed right away after inserting the iPAD charger it was somehow not being recognized properly, I tried plugging this cable to my USB (PC) and had to restart Windows and reconnect the cable to make it work.

I really wonder why this beta 3 is such a mess in this area since the previous betas were completely fine. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it, why would they change something that was so good into this crap?

^^^^^ There are a few comments on Instagram about this and I assume they aren’t running a beta iOS. Am assuming it’s a general Apple “issue”?

Really? Have you read none of the posts above yours?

If not, here’s a summary for you: I’m sure Apple decided to mess up beta 3 intentionally just to cause trouble.

There is something wrong with iCloud this afternoon. I’ve had problems accessing files online and I’ve seen reports on Twitter about it as well. Almost certainly related.

It’s probably you Brits getting revenge.

Ha. But Siri seems to be "up"

To the people complaining about how bad this beta is, how many other betas have you tested? Other than the occasional expected glitch here and there, 13 really hasn't been that bad. I think back to anything 11 and earlier and this is a dream in comparison. A slight delay in scrolling vs a complete phone brick lol.

You couldn’t be more right about this. iOS 11 will definitely be a “legacy” with Apple’s iOS issues.

I hadn't noticed. Good spot! Testing it out it seems any movement (i.e. not just down) puts the icons into wiggle mode and starts to move the one you selected. This is cool.
