I’m not getting any haptic feedback when using FaceID anymore to sign in to my apps...anyone else before I report? Ta.

As a software engineer, would you have ever come out with the name iPad OS then knowing it is the "same" iOS? No way.

We all know it is the same...for now...but seriously, they could have simply said, "we have even more new updates that make iOS work even better on iPad." But they didn't.

Are you implying software engineers suddenly decided to name iOS on iPad “iPadOS”? That was all marketing.

Funny enough, the first “iPadOS” beta showed “iOS 13.0” in Settings > General > Software Update when it was up to date. They’ve since changed it to show “iPadOS 13.0” on iPads.

Marketing has much more sway at Apple than you seem to think.

I think we can infer that the increasingly small differences between Mac and iOS on iPad will probably lead to a split eventually.
Nah. As I’ve explained above, it doesn’t make any sense for them to do that for the foreseeable future and likely never will.

A more likely route is that they continue their path of implementing macOS features on iOS, then using either SwiftUI or Catalyst, bring those apps back to the Mac. I doubt Apple ships another new AppKit app after Music.

Messages in SlideOver is STILL broken, since Beta 4 or 5 I think it was? Lost track. Also, still can’t add apps to folder that’s located in the dock and still can’t rearrange apps that are in a folder located in the dock. This is getting scary.

So the answer to my question is no — got it. Do you also have opinions on how meteorologists should do their jobs? What about teachers? Doctors? Lawyers? You don’t need to be a software engineer to have an opinion, but it sure helps to be one or at least have some experience in having an informed opinion.

Let me put it this way: Imagine you’re baking a cake for a family, but they can’t agree on whether or not they’d like sprinkles on top. Using our approaches to software engineering, I’d bake one large cake and put sprinkles on top of part of the cake or leave them off altogether depending on the exact circumstances. You’d bake two smaller cakes, putting sprinkles on one and not the other. But wait! While you were making the batter separately for two cakes, you forgot to put baking soda in one of the two mixes. It happens — we’re all human. But it’s already been in the oven for half an hour — there’s no going back now. You put in substantially more effort for what wound up being a worse result.

That’s what I mean when I say there’s too much room for human error in forking iOS just for iPads and then trying to develop them in parallel. For quite a few tasks, you now have to implement them the same way twice and test them twice instead of sharing what you can between every device (which is mostly everything) and then splitting off blocks of custom code by device as needed. It’s not just that bugs and errors can crop up as a result — they will. Code duplication is absolutely a recipe for bugs — again, we’re all human — and forking iOS inherently introduces code duplication where it is by no means necessary.
Honestly, I (along with many others here, I'm sure) don't give two sh!ts who is or is not a certified software engineer. All I want to see in this thread are bug fixes, changes and improvement-related posts. Is that too much to ask for in a "Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements" titled thread?

Not trying to single anyone out here.

That was my point...engineers would be like, "ummm...it's the same thing, why change it?" And then ask yourself, why would they change it at all? Who benefits from that? Do you think the end user cares?

I'm not saying it will happen tomorrow, but there will be a divergence at some point. I would guess within the next 3-5 years.

Both the Twitter and Instagram “hidden text” bugs have been fixed.

so...that’s something, I guess.
That Instagram bug was so annoying, my notifications for Instagram have been acting up too, so hopefully they fixed that too, unless it's just my device acting up.
Automation works??
Nope, still gone.
Is anyone having the issue of always having the outline of the arrow (location arrow) on the top left by the clock (iPhone XS Max) there? It won't go away and it's been there like all the time since updating to beta 6 or 7.
I think that's just saying an app is using your location. Try going into Location Services settings and managing which apps have access to your location, that might help.
Is there any way to turn off the Memoji section when you open the emoji section n Messages app?
I wish there was, the Memoji Stickers app in Messages is fun to play with sometimes, but please don't shove it down my throat with the keyboard.

Actually, so far - Mail has been flawless for me? I did do another reboot of my phone (Xr) after it updated to PB but since then, I get the badges as expected and the message list is updated as expected when I go there, no need for manual sync or kill of the app to get the new messages to show up.

Well, at least it seems less broken?

(shrug!)

If an engineer would refuse to do what marketing requested, they’d promptly reassign the task to someone who’ll do it, and if I were that engineer I’d consider starting a job search. If anything, end users care far more about the distinction between iOS and “iPadOS” than developers do, because they “renamed” iOS! It’s almost like marketing wanted it to be flashier than it is. The tech press has fawned over the new name since June. They’ll be fawning over it next month, too. There’s a reason marketing calls the shots on stuff like this: Hype and attention.

Doesn’t change that it’s still iOS. Doesn’t change software engineering best practices which explain exactly why arbitrarily forking software, let alone a whole freaking OS, only to develop the two largely in parallel is a bad idea, either.

Look, in five years, if iOS and “iPadOS” are markedly different OSes instead of a changed marketing name, I’ll eat my words, but I doubt that’ll be the case. As I’ve explained, there’s no reason to do so other than the marketing name and many reasons not to, and there are easier ways to accomplish what they seek (greater parity between iOS and macOS) under their current operational system with Catalyst and SwiftUI.

I can say this, beta 8 is def WAY faster with apps! So far no issues on XS MAX

Maybe a stupid question but hence i only started beta testing a week ago. Is there a way to disable long press for actions? I´m used to use 3D touch and now i get unintentional 3D touch actions by the long press n hold thinggie and havent found a option to disable it.

if you mean 3rd Party Apps, it’s because Beta 6 added the 2x launch time that was touted at WWDC. but the app has to have been updated recently or reinstalled for it to go into effect

No, 3D Touch is basically replaced by Haptic Touch which is the long press, but with the actions from 3D Touch. so just no more peek and pop. Settings>Accessiblity>Touch if you want to turn it off completely
