At this point, I'm thinking that its being held to release as the new phones are arriving as an update that will include them. That way, they don't need to push out 2 this week. So Thursday.

Has nothing to do with new phones. They simply ship out the builds for the new phones when they see fit, judging by past releases.

Would be a welcome change though if they got their **** together finally.

it's Apple so they can unpredictably get their **** together. (would be nice) I'm really thinking they might go with a 13.2 release or release everything on Thursday. :D -

This year is unlike any other. It will have everything to do with the new phones. Or, as pointed out above, there will be a lot of VERY upset people. We’ve never had an active beta for a successor version before the release of the “current” version.

Seeing as Apple consistently tell beta users (both dev and public) not to put the beta in their primary devices, so they don’t care about the thrillseekers who want the beta and then get new phones. They upset people all the time, so doubt this wouldn’t be anything new.

I’d agree with you at the other end of the beta period. Right now, many have put it on, no matter what warnings they’ve been given.

Frankly, for most people, this won’t be a big deal as much data is now cloud based. You might have to semi-manually restore apps but that’s easy enough to do as well by going to the “Purchased” section of the App Store.

The thing is... MOST people aren't actually on the beta. Only a small fraction of Apple's iOS users go out of their way to install the beta profile and on Thursday all of those people who are still on a stable build of iOS 12.4.1 will get pushed an update. Apple's primary focus right now is to ensure that that transition is smooth.

Definitely. But some of Apple’s most vocal users are on the beta. I don’t see Apple leaving them high and dry when they get their new phones. And that’s a different issue altogether from the experience the mainstream users get moving from 12.4.1 to 13.0.

Except most likely not leaving them "high and dry" technically. They can more than likely update to the beta on the new device OR go with 13.0 for time being and use old device for beta testing. Apple in no way is responsible for making sure folks who buy new phones are able to restore beta software and data on day one on their new daily drivers. IMHO anyway.

I agree. I don't anyone will left high and dry. All they need to do is put their beta profile on the new phone and stay with 13.1 beta.

When I got my iPP 11 in early July I but my beta profile on it and migrated everything from the XR which on 13 beta 2 or 3 I think. Sat back with a glass of iced tea while iOS did all the work! :)

The issue really is whether an iOS 13.1 beta for the new phones will be ready. I think it will. Problem solved!

Just so I have this straight, since this year has been a little bit of a whirlwind:

anyone currently running 13.1 Beta on their phones will have to wait until 9/30 if they want to jump off the Beta train correct? Because you won't be able to restore your phone from backup if you downgrade to 13.0

Apple will release a 13.1 for the pros either tomorrow or early Friday morning.

a) Either they release one today and then release the same one but updated tomorrow/Friday for the new phones etc
b) They wait until tomorrow/Friday and release it for all devices including new phones

I'm thinking builds will be released for all devices today. This seems to make the most sense as Apple typically doesn't release on Fridays due to the upcoming weekend and it would shorten the lifespan of the next beta release as they're not going to want to continue the 13.1 cycle releasing on Fridays or even Thursdays.
