Does anyone know if Apple will allow 3rd party widgets?

Or widgets you can interactive with other than pressing to open? Ie, a Twitter widget you can scroll through without opening the app?

Apple will allow third party widgets (they already do - several are already available via TestFlight)... as to what functionality is available, that pretty much remains to be seen - especially as you specified (e.g., Twitter)

Come to think of it.... not sure why I even asked the question; I have a couple of TestFlight widgets 😂

Generally, the new class of widgets will have very limited interactivity. They may be able to function as deep links to app data (think: the Notes widget where you can tap on a note title and have it open). However, if you are looking for the kind of interactivity that widgets like the PCalc widget were (the widget was a full fledged calculator), you will not see that, at least not in iOS 14.

Am guessing already mentioned, but the Messages app can now reply to an older message; just tapping the old message - sorta like threaded messaging. It then puts a small copy of the message you’re replying to with a link to yours. Only seems to work with ios14 to 14.

Inline replies -- a new Messages feature in iOS 14.

Hey, I wanted to ask something to those using iOS/iPadOS 14. Is the smart zoom back to all websites? or is it still broken? I remember that was one thing iOS 13 broke, and I see that even with the latest version of iOS 13, it is still broken on some websites, such as MacRumors blog.

Smart zoom was a great feature that adjusts the size of the window to the width of the text. That way, you can quickly read a small text on a phone or tablet. Double tap, and the system (usually the browser) zoomed in to fit only the text. A feature still present in macOS. In some websites, it still works, but in others, smart zoom on iOS/iPadOS is broken. Is it fully restored in iOS/iPadOS 14?

Thank you.

Re-syning an empty/deleted folder from Mac, just because you can't delete a photo not shot with the phone's camera still seems a huge mistake to me...

About the "Selected Photos" feature for giving apps access... Is it me or is this feature half-baked? For example, if I let an app access a few photos I just took, then some time later want to share different photos with that app, it doesn't ask me again to choose photos. I have to go into settings -> privacy -> photos and find the app and adjust what it has access to. A huge pain in the arse!

Also, why not a "Last 30/60/90 photos" option? The whole point of this feature is to prevent apps from having access to your ENTIRE photo library. Most of the time you're sharing something you just took or took recently; giving apps a sliding window of the last 30 photos seems like it would be a sensible option.

Anyway, the feature feels half-baked. I hope more apps move to using PHPickerViewController for photo access, but I kind of doubt it. For some reason app developers are obsessed with rolling their own crap for everything.

Also would be good to have an option to allow an app access to a particular photo album(s) only.

Seems like it offers me an option to select more/other photos when I try it again. I wonder if the app has to do something to support that, but seems like it works with apps that haven't really been updated recently and likely wouldn't have something related to iOS 14 in them at this point.

Yes, on my phone it’s the same. Old apps which definitely haven’t been updated for iOS 14 behave that way.
So for me this is a really great implementation.

Might have been said already... by mistake I noticed that you can merge widgets. For example, if you wanted multiple time zones to hand, but want to save on space, you can set a few of the smallest clock widgets each set to a different location, then just drag one on top of the other. Then you can swipe up and down on the widget to swipe through each clock.

This might be a known feature, I don’t know?

You can stack any widget of the same size; they don't all have to be the clock widget for example.

Long-press to re-arrange the stack order or remove widgets from it.

Did you guys notice that when you have air pods pro connected that everytime you wake up the screen a dialog bubble shows at the top of the screen saying they are connected? I’m thinking maybe this is a bug. It was annoying the crap out of me. But maybe it was just on my device.

No, its been noted a bunch of times in other threads. They probably need to dial it back when you’re just turning your device on, but now that AirPods support automatic switching, this is Apple’s way of reminding you which device is in control.

Pre IOS14 I used to get a badge indication of any app update but not since update.
Is this correct or am I missing a setting somewhere? Anyone know?

Did you mean the blue dot under the icon to show that an app had recently been updated? That's still there.

Did you mean the badge number on the App Store icon to list how many updates are available? That's still there.

Did you mean a badge icon on each app to show that there's an update waiting for it? That never existed :)

Both the blue dot under the icon and the badge number ...I'm not seeing either since I updated to the latest beta. Any idea what settings I need to have? Cheers.

I haven't seen a badge on the App Store in a while - probably before iOS 13. But I also have automatic App Updates turned on (Settings > App Store > (Automatic Updates) > App Updates [ON].

I still get the blue and orange dots next to apps on my home screen - blue to indicate that I have not opened an app since it was updated, and orange to indicate that the app is a TestFlight version.
