IOS 14 is a work in progress Unfortunately battery 🔋 life right now is a side effect. However a few updates and it will be better

I’m still having extra battery drain in idle overnight but not as bad as a couple of posters ago. I’m still experiencing more drain than I should. After a couple of weeks it’s settled down a little but it’s still not good.

Some days it seems to last a little bit before it starts to drain and on other days it might start right away. I’ll be doing the same activities but the amount of drain is never the same. It also seems that on the days that it takes it a little bit to start, once it does it drops quick. Almost as if it’s trying to make up for lasting earlier.

I updated first in my family so I could see first hand if there were any problems. I’m more tolerant of it than the wife and kids. They’re still on 13.7 for now. On a side note on the various 13.xx I never had battery issues.

I've got SE 1st gen with 11 months old battery (replaced through Apple). iOS 14 melts through battery, even thought I tried clean install. I regret upgrading a lot. If I leave my phone idle for night, I lose about 30% battery and 'battery setting page' shows that nothing was running at the time.
After the backup-reset-restore dance, I also did a sign out from iCloud then login again. This improved the battery life a lot on my SE 2016. It will need to run detection on your photos again (should be mostly done while charging), but otherwise no excessive power use.

Personally I would wait a long time (on the charger) after the sign out, so any potential cleanups of data can happen. Long time = at least 10 minutes, and until the phone cools down.

If I look back to the original se this all feels like Deja Vu, It was released with excellent battery life, best battery life of any iPhone, the thing was a beast for its size, out comes an ios update battery life gets 20-30% worse, people complain, it drags on and on, Apple eventually release a fix, battery life gets 5% better, its dragged on so long though people are satisfied forgetting battery life is still 25% worse than it otiginally was.

As above I do think something is wrong with 4G, I notice at weekends when I am at home I get 5hr + sot on my se, during the week when I’m at work and on 4G most of the day I get 2-3 hrs and I have full 4G signal so it’s not a low signal issue.

Just want to say I'm also experiencing bad battery drain on a XS Max. Battery health is 94% but my battery life is abysmal. It loses 1% every 5-10 minutes or so. I barely use the phone anymore at this point. Weird thing is my wife has an XS Max and her battery life is fine.

Looking at apps doesn't help as it doesn't really list anything. I deleted all widgets, no background app refresh, etc. I don't have an Apple watch but I still tried a reset and restore which did nothing.

Additionally, Face ID usually does not work anymore and I get a message that "FaceID will be available when iPhone cools down." Nothing has changed in terms of case, etc, so I can only assume there is some rogue process running in the background heating up the phone and draining battery. On iOS 14.0.1

Has anyone ever noticed 5GHz Wifi has worse battery life than 2.4? On my iPhone 8 that has been a problem historically.

I still feel like 14.0.1 is worse than 13 on battery life. It's better than 14.0, so I guess there is that. I'm tempted to do the iCloud backup/wipe/restore from backup dance.

Not sure about that as my router broadcasts a dual signal but if you try the reset and restore let us know if it works for you. It didnt make a difference for me :( I'm waiting for 14.1 or the next release that hopefully fixes this issue.

If iOS 14.1 (soon) doesn't help, maybe try signing out of iCloud (waiting for a bit) then signing back in.

I now have near 12 hour battery life on my iPhone SE 2016. Which is not stellar, but but much better than the 33% drain I saw a few weeks ago.

Thank you. I'm hoping 14.1 releases soon but will try that if it doesn't (or doesn't help!)

Aside from the problematic update and battery drain, 5GHz may drain more battery as transfer speeds are higher, so it uses slightly more CPU.

Just to thank you guys, IPhone 7+ user here with bleeding battery problem previously with IOS 14.2b3.

From the beginning, after reaching 100%, waking up in the morning, there is this 3 to 4% battery drained. I though it’s normal with Bluetooth on for Iwatch mirroring.

With the usual normal usage from previous last beta, this time, I reached home with the battery percentage reaching 15% at force to-low power mode setting or else flat battery is a no-no for me when traveling going home.

All tricks have been done and to no avail, still , it draining fast like 5G ( pun intended ).

Frustrated, search this forum and found this method of signing out from iCloud then after awhile, sign in.

That’s it, this morning, still 100% battery and up to this time , from last night charging, the battery is holding good and fighting well.

Thanks Forum mates.

I don't seem to have a battery life problem - however the display on the top of my phone that shows battery life seems so show less life at a certain % than it used to. Could be I'm just looking at it more cause of threads such as this

SE2020? But it's in general? I asume it's not screen time. The most far I've got it's almost 7h

iPhone SE 2016, taking it off the charger -> having to charge again = almost 12 hours.

Screen on time is almost independent of that. It could be 5 hours, it could be a bit over 2.

I have the suspicion it might have something to do with the motion sensor keeping the iPhone awake. Had it laying on my bed at night, off the charger, and it had used only a little bit of battery.

I suppose with these huge iPhones, even the developers always have their phones laying on tables, not in their pockets, not moving. So the motion -> CPU wake-up -> going to sleep path never gets tested.

I dont think thats the case. They have logs which show them what was using battery power. If they had seen something about a motion sensor draining battery it would probably be in the logs. they most likely did not reproduce the issue, or just havent solved it yet
