Been using ios 14.1 since they release the GM version and i can honestly say that the battery is way better than ios 14.0.1. Also, changed my phones wifi connection from 5GHz to 2.4GHz .. Used my phone for 2 days (calls, text, chat, browse ~ no gaming) and still got 90%. Previously in ios 14.0.1 and with 5ghz wifi, i can see my battery % draining during idle.

Having connected to wifi 5Ghz seems to have some impact in the battery As well. I’ve checked some forums and they mentioned that for mobile phones 2.4ghz with 20 bandwith is better For battery life. 5ghz is better for bigger devices like ipad. Not sure if its true, but i followed and i notice some difference.

P.S. My Phones overall battery health is still 100% even after the update.
My bad, good point....

Updated from 13.7 to 14.1 last night and had massive battery drain. 50% down in 5 hours.

Then I make an iCloud backup and restore and now I have okay battery time.

My phone is SE2020.

Oops darn it, sorry about that. I maybe should try it as I have my phone on 5Ghz at home but my 4G signal is really weak in my apartment.

No worries. Try and let us know if it also made a difference. Just make sure to set the bandwidth of your 2.4ghz to 20mhz as also mentioned here:

I’m still up in the air with this update. Sometimes it seems to do better and other times it seems to use the battery faster. I’ve been online on Safari for 23 minutes and went from 86% to 81%.
I didn’t think about the 5 vs 2.4 gig on Wi-Fi. When I was on 14.01 my router wouldn’t let me choose. Yesterday morning I got a new router that lets you switch so now I can try that.

My battery drain is back and 14.1 did not fix it. I did set up as new device to get rid of this, apparently it didn't help.

Good. OTA update?

Hmm, glad I'm not crazy. I didn't think about the link width. On 2.4 I only get 40 MHz max, but I get 80 MHz on 5 GHZ.

I have also noticed something similar. My 2 iPads are on 5Ghz and have no battery problems while my 2 iPhones do. That's why I have the phones on 2.4Ghz. Anecdotical evidence, but still...

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. If 2.4 GHz wasn't so crowded (heck 5 GHz is so I have to use DFS), I'd use that instead.

Downloaded 14.1 and followed the tip to connect to 2.4 GHz WiFi. Now I’m a bit above 5 hours of screen on time and have 10 % battery left on my iPhone X. Still not good but better. Standby drain is still an issue for me (loosing about 2-3 % per hour) but I had these issues even before iOS 14.

Glad it worked out for others but sadly no difference for me with 14.1
I think Apple would have mentioned it in the update notes if they fixed anything related to battery drain, given how widespread those reports are even on their forums.

Initially I thought battery drain was fixed on my SE 2020 but nope still there. I’m saying that it seems a hell of a lot worse on 4G than WiFi. I don’t think they’re gonna fix this issue to be honest.

SE2020 Here.

Update only from 13.7 to 14.1, I got massiv battery drain. did I iCloud backup, then reset phone and reinstall iCloud backup to the phone and now I have battery time at least on per with 13.7.

agree, it take a bit time, but worth it. Did that on my old 8 plus and iPad 6 gen to. They had battery drain as wel, but running fine now.

Well, the first hours in a new system always took time to the phone. In fact, I saw a video which they say to perform all the upgrade connected and left a little bit that time.

I lost 5% of battery over 8 hours when I was sleeping when it used to be 1 or 2. Now that I got online for 10 minutes I’ve dropped 2% already.
I switched to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and I signed out of and signed back into iCloud yesterday afternoon.
Edit to add: my phone was in airplane mode

yes that’s right. My tip can be used if there is battery drain over a longer period.

Check this out hahaha.

Beta 3? So will better to stick in 13.7 until 14.3?
Because I hevnt yet read about good battery in 14.2... and 10 hrs it's quiet a lot. I only have got 7hrs with no bluetooth on, reduce motion, fixed brightness in 25% (via shortcut or Siri) and a lot of Privacy settings off.

I think so but please also ask second opinion from others!

I have an iPhone 7 with a brand new Apple-replaced battery, with Battery Health indicating 100%. On iOS 14.2 beta 4, I charged it to 100% before going to bed and unplugged the charger. I'm running the beta hoping I'd get the fixes sooner. I also enabled Do Not Disturb mode so there were no notifications (I hardly have any enabled at all). For my experiment, I've got all of the following disabled - LTE, Location Services, Background Refresh, Siri & Search, Screen Time, Exposure Notifications.

I woke up to find it at 93% with zero usage for 8 hours. What the hell is iOS even doing in the background? What is the point of all these amazing advances in "Apple silicon" processing power if an OS upgrade handicaps the device? What difference does so many more gigaflops per second make? Nada.

My phone is in excellent shape hardware-wise and I am very happy with Touch ID in this pandemic era. I have no desire to buy a newer model. I've been using iOS consistently since the first iPhone and I have never been so disappointed. iOS 14 has by far been the absolute worst.

The fact that Apple will not let you downgrade (for security reasons  or whatever) is salt on the wound.

For anyone who reads this, if you're on an iPhone 7 or older running iOS 13, DO NOT upgrade to iOS 14 no matter what.

Tim the bean counter has ruined Apple.

You're using a beta though...
