Do you think they will actually fix the battery drain? It only seems to affect phones with smaller batteries, there is a theory of planned obsolescence in order to get those on 6s/7/8 to upgrade, sadly however the new SE falls into this bracket also which is simply not good enough for a phone only a few months old. They do have a reputation for this, they did it with the original SE, it was a little beast but the battery wasn't good enough to cope with drains of a new version of ios, they never fixed it.

Don't get me wrong the SE battery gets me through a work day but if i had to go out at night it would need a charge, i have to be careful with the phone all day to even make it through a work day. This simply was not the case on 13.7

My iPhone 10xs max that was brand new after I lost my old one and my battery was at 100 since March 10 and since iOS 14.2 it went down to 96 percent?

is this pretty normal?

don‘t know if the ask me, but it worked for my SE 2020 and my iPad 6 gen. Both had massive battery drain and lost about 50% of the battery in 5-6 hours with no use.

I think it affects all phones, but it's harder to notice on those with bigger batteries. Meanwhile, 14.1, 11% drained from 00:00 to 07:00, airplane mode on, baterry usage shows no apps... what is it doing with it only Apple knows 😅

I have an antique iPhone 8 with a battery that can only old 85% capacity (getting the battery replaced monday). Battery life on iOS14 after a day of normal use appears a bit poorer than iOS13. This is unscientific, but generally with my white noise generator going all night I have about 42% battery left after a 90% charge. Post updating I awoke with 32% leftover from a 90% charge.

Granted this is only the first day/night with iOS 14. perhaps this will improve. Can't wait to see how things work with a new battery.

Beside this, iOS14 runs great on my old phone - I'm shocked, everything feels faster, even networking is way up on performance. And my teeth are brighter!

I updated a phone to iOS 14.1 and, after charging it to 80%, I left it for 2-3 hours disconnected from the charger. I returned to find the phone at 46% charge level.

The settings app showed a steady rate of charge level decrease during the period the phone was locked/unused. This is the first time I’ve seen anything like that using this phone or any other phone. The battery health indicator shows 93%.

The first night after going to 14.1 I had a steady rate of discharge and lost 5%. I’ve turned the phone off and on a couple of times and even let it completely discharge and then recharge. Now last night I only lost 1%.
Now it says I’ve been on my phone for 23 minutes and I’ve dropped from 99% to 92%.

Same issues here with my 11 Pro. 14-14.1 have some steady battery drain. Hopefully 14.2 fixes it. I also tried everything. Nothing works.

As I've said before - it would be helpful is people shared what Settings, Battery showed as to which apps are using the most battery - also would be helpful if said do you have background app refresh turned on, etc.
I'm sure what you are experiencing is real but some of us aren't seeing it and more details might help us all diagnose and help you with the drain problem

I’ve been using Safari about 20 to 30 minutes every hour and this afternoon for two hours I was streaming a local radio station on their app. Then just a couple of apps here and there. Today after looking I lost 10% of battery an hour. I went from 99% at 8:30 am and went down to around 23% at 2:23 pm. I didn’t really use my phone until 9. I’m stuck at home with a sprained ankle on crutches so I have some time on my hands.

Woke up today with a full charge. After getting ready and dropping kids at school (about 1 hour), it was down to 75%. Went for a 90 min walk outside with mostly podcast usage -- light internet usage using airpods. Came home at 18% battery life... Normally, I'd be down to 75% after all of this. Using an iPhone X.

Wow, that's even worse than with my iPhone X. The frustrating thing is (I don't know if it's the same in your case) that no strange usage shows up in my battery stats and I still only get 4-5 hours of screen on time. When on standby the phone doesn't even get warm and it still drains the battery on standby (2-3 % per hour).

This happened only after the 14.1 update,

I already had battery issues under iOS 13 and it got slightly better now with iOS 14. Under iOS 13 the battery drained 4-6 % (edit: per hour) during standby.

people always ask to post battery stats to see if anything is running in the background. I don’t know about you but with me there is never 1 thing I can say that is hogging battery, it’s just normal crap, nothing ever stands out, it’s the culmination of everything draining battery

From Battery Grapher I'm pretty sure that iOS 14.1 is not an improvement in battery life over 14.0.0/14.0.1. Still ±8.5% per hour on iPhone SE 2016 with a fresh battery from februari (meaning a 12 hour battery life).

It even seems like in standby iOS is just not keeping up with the actual battery state, as it will drop faster afterwards when you start to use it, where it will soon meet a point on the original slope during normal (non-standby) usage.

Super-fast background drain (33%/hour) was resolved by resetting from backup, and then also signing out from iCloud and back in again.

If I had to guess, it's the phone's CPU being more heavily tasked overall on older phones due to new functionality. I doubt there will be any updates that will fix this. Putting it in Low Power mode allows the CPU/GPU to downclock but the phone is much slower than in older iOS.

So does this require more power then that means more battery power required? The SE 2020 chip is blazing but it’s effected

I got a new iphone SE with 13.7 (100% battery health). Going to test it for a week then update and see what happens.
My thoughts are the 11 and on have such large batteries that it's harder to notice. If there's some issue with the CPU not downclocking, it makes sense that SE, with it's tiny battery, is also affected?
On my OG SE, I can't seem to find any setting that slows down the drain. With everything off - Push/Fetch, Location, SIRI, iCloud drive, background sync etc - the battery continues to fall.

I would hold off updating the SE 2 to 14.1 I did and I’m still having battery issues. See if you can wait until 14.2

This was also my thinking and if this is the case there really is nothing that can be done, it’s really unlucky for SE users as it’s only a few months old. I am thinking about selling mine but have been searching around looking for a solution before hand but sadly I don’t think there will be. Apple cut corners in the wrong place with this phone, they should have used say the XR chip and a bit bigger battery

It may not even be iOS. Will also be testing apps to see if they are the issue. First suspects are Google apps (especially YouTube). Used to build/mod Android and their coding was really messy.

Something is definitely keeping the phone from throttling down for sure. Android was horrendous with this back when I used it. Had to use Greenify to block rogue user/system apps. Sigh.

Can't be the apps if the phone drains on standby when app refresh is off. No app should be consuming battery at that state.
