Since I last charged my phone, my phone screen was on for 5 hours 15 minutes and 53% battery is still left. It means I will get around 10 hours and 30 mins SOT on my iPhone SE 2, which is incredible. Yes I’m on low power mode but still over 10 hrs SOT is unbelievable. Remember i have been continuously connected Bluetooth and watched a cricket match for 1 hr and 30 mins. I think beta 3 improved battery life significantly.

Notice some random overheating, battery plummets when that happens.
Over wifi I get decent screen time, LTE kills it in less than 3 hours.

Beta 3? So will better to stick in 13.7 until 14.3?
Because I hevnt yet read about good battery in 14.2... and 10 hrs it's quiet a lot. I only have got 7hrs with no bluetooth on, reduce motion, fixed brightness in 25% (via shortcut or Siri) and a lot of Privacy settings off.

Still on 14.0.1, but for no apparent reason, the nice flat curve during night idle has returned, almost 5 hours without losing 1% while Wi-Fi, BT and Cellular were all enabled. Hopefully it stays like that.

I have an 11 pro max which I bought back in October 2019. It’s still at 100%. This is what I’ve done theoretically to help keep it There. Basically in a nutshell Ive done little to heat up the phone. I’ve used 5w charging the entire time. I don’t game on the phone(that’s what I have my iPad for), or usually anything at all that’s processor intensive. I don’t have Twitter, Facebook, instagram or any social media on there but I recently in the last month acquired tik tok. Background refresh is off. When I’m not using WiFi or Bluetooth those are off. When I’m not navigating my location services are off. If you’re not doing anything that processor intensive you should try low power mode here and there. Some people stay on low power mode even if they’re above 80%. They say their battery life almost doubles. With iOS 14 I haven’t yet delved into using any widgets except the ones that come with it when you swipe all the way to the right. I’m not sure if the widgets constantly updating are draining things faster. Someone who knows more can chime in. Last thing. Check your email. How often is it fetching. Adjust that if you don’t get a lot of important emails.

This may seem like a lot of maintenance to go through but you have to come to the realization that everyone is using the same batteries in smartphones these days, lithium ion. It’s inefficient. Until we get next level battery tech It’s going to degrade significantly in a year or two. You can help mitigate it like I do or just accept it and use it how you like

Paying for phone 1100$ and using low power mode?! Turning off wifi, bt? Really? Buy a 100$ phone then!
I am not doing nothing and using it like it should be userd. All services on, gaming, etc and battery health is at 100% since February.

Are you ok? I guess someone Can find anything to get aggravated about. This was not for you. Obviously these ideas are for the people who are having battery drain issues. Maybe the next update will help to clear that up. In the meantime they can do whatever they like but maybe something I suggested could help until then.

That clearly wasnt a "idea for people who are having battery drain isues". You told how you maintained 100% battery health since october 2019, and how you turned everything off... How can that help people that have battery drain issues on 14.0.1? What is the point of bying iphone 11 pro/pro max and turn everything off?

I've had this too, but have been unable to pin down the cause. I've spent a lot of time randomly toggling settings off, but with no obvious effect. Unfortunately, the battery usage indicator in the settings app is of limited usefulness when trying to diagnose this type of issue.

TRY speaking literally instead of exaggerating. You’re obviously NOT turning everything off. You’re just turning off what you’re not using. Kind of like lights in your house. The rooms that are dark are the ones that you’re not in. If you kept everything on in the house your electric bill will go up because you’re using more power. It’s pretty simple. Apple is selling you a phone but not guaranteeing that everyone’s usage will have the same battery experience. And yes there was a little something for everyone such as complaints about battery capacity. Some were wondering why they were down 5-10% after a few months or so. You’re not going to win because you’re simply wrong and think that apple can beat the law of physics because you paid 1100$ for a phone.

There are all sorts of possibilities. For example, it could be that turning a particular option off would lead to *increased* battery usage due to some quirk, bug or otherwise unexpected behaviour. A lot of proposed fixes strike me as little more than guesswork.

Incidentally, I went through the Siri options turning most off and that really is a laborious thing to do - there's no global switch and consequently it's several taps per app to turn it all off. For 50 apps, that's say 200 fingertaps. Not ideal :)

In the end you’re only paying $79 for a battery replacement and that’s almost over 3 years. You really believe it’s worth all the hassle? Trying to micromanage every little thing?

Yes, I tried the same looking through battery stats, but nothing seems weird.
I noticed that when the storage is near full the phone starts acting weird, it trying to clear the RAM/ free up space and this seems to be the reason for the overheating, and apps crash sometimes. So I guess its not any app or setting that is causing this, but the way phone handles storage.

I've gotten used to the way I use my phone. I just don’t have anything on that I’m not using. I have a Verizon unlimited plan so I never need WiFi on unless the cell signal is weak and WiFi is available. I’ve gotten used to my brightness being 50% or a tiny bit under. Unless I’m outside and it’s really bright, maxing out my brightness bothers my eyes. So for me I don’t feel it’s micromanaging. It’s normal. You made a good point though. I’ve been a on a binge every year since 2017 getting the latest iPhone. I don’t even keep a phone long enough for it to degrade significantly.

I used to do that with my 6s. Upgraded to Pro last year and now I barely care about any of that. Location Services turned on for just the ones I need and Background Refresh completely OFF. Other than that I use it and not think about it. Made life much easier.

My iPhone X had 81% battery life so guessed it was time to change it myself. Ordered a cheap compatible battery from Aliexpress for $15 and it came with all the necessary tools for DIY. Then I saw few videos on youtube and successfully opened the phone and replaced the battery. However, iOS 14 has a bug where you have to perform full reset and set it up as new. After doing this I literally doubled my battery life on my iPhone X. Now battery health is at 100% and it also has water resistance intact. Don’t forget to order those rubber adhesive waterproofing seal stickers.

A little early to tell but 14.1 might have some promise. It has some drop but it just updated and just after it finished I had to take a long phone call.

fingers crossed with 14.1 being an improvement.

i'm a light user so in practice, the degradation of battery life hasn't hurt me because i'm still working from home and can get by charging every other day. but rather than being at about 50% after 40 hours of use, i've been closer to 25-30% left after the same duration. my usage patterns haven't changed as i've checked my screen time, etc.

i should also say, overnight idle battery consumption had not changed from ios13 to ios14 for me. it loses about 5-6% over 8-10 hours overnight.

for me, the best battery life was with 13.3...13.7 was noticeably worse, but 14.0 and 14.0.1 are even worse than that.

Aside from the problematic update and battery drain, 5GHz may drain more battery as transfer speeds are higher, so it uses slightly more CPU.
Duh. why didn't I think of that. Although it seems like with idle I have more drain overall. The best I can figure is maybe the higher frequency requires more battery? Although, I am on a DFS channel and that seems to help since there is minimal to no interference from outside my house.

14.1 fixed my standby battery drain and general use seems back to normal
DFU or OTA upgrade?

I have used ios 14.1 gm (same version with public release) for few days. Battery life is similar with 14.0.1 and 13.7. But the ui is more responsive compared to 13.x.

Been using ios 14.1 since they release the GM version and i can honestly say that the battery is way better than ios 14.0.1. Also, changed my phones wifi connection from 5GHz to 2.4GHz .. Used my phone for 2 days (calls, text, chat, browse ~ no gaming) and still got 90%. Previously in ios 14.0.1 and with 5ghz wifi, i can see my battery % draining during idle.

Having connected to wifi 5Ghz seems to have some impact in the battery As well. I’ve checked some forums and they mentioned that for mobile phones wifi2.4ghz with 20mhz is better For battery life. Wifi 5ghz is better for bigger devices like ipad. Not sure if its true, but i followed and i notice some difference.

P.S. My Phones overall battery health is still 100% even after the update.

I use my iPhone as if it was an iPod (my 160gb classic is eating dust) with telephoning capabilities.
On average I don't receive more than 2-3 calls a month and I possibly place a call once every two months.
No social media applications whatsoever. I don't know how facebook works and have no idea what tweeter is.
I keep in contact with very few close friends and use Facetime daily with them.
I have 2 iPads which are used for reading ( I'm retired so I have all the time in the world for reading), surfing and gaming. I listen to music and audiobooks when I'm out walking, and I stream music from my phone to the HomePod when I'm home.
And I don't have a TV but maybe that's irrelevant. For me long battery life and storage capacity are the 2 things I care about (I do not subscribe to any streaming service, so I own the 97 gb of music and audiobooks on my phone).

I have also noticed something similar. My 2 iPads are on 5Ghz and have no battery problems while my 2 iPhones do. That's why I have the phones on 2.4Ghz. Anecdotical evidence, but still...
