iOS 14 Beta 1 ― Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

Annoying bug on weather widget. On weather app it gives the weather for my current location but in the weather widget it will give the weather for Cupertino, always. If I remove the widget and add it again, it will give me the current weather, but after sometime, it will give me the Cupertino weather again, until I remove it and add it again. Very annoying.

Had the same thing happen. I found a workaround - add your city/location in the Weather app and then use that fixed location for the widget rather than the "current" location which seems to be forgotten and defaults back to Cupertino.

To switch cities in the widget, put it where you want it, then tap the widget in wiggle mode. It flips over (like the old OSX dashboard widgets, I might add) and you can pick the location there.

I would try doing an erase and reinstall via DFU mode to 13.5.1 then re-update to iOS 14.

I have to say, I am really liking the small examples of their new design language/animations. You can see it in the App Library and the Home Favorites in Control Center - really gorgeous. I can't wait for that to be implemented elsewhere.

I've read every page and I'm preeeeeetty sure this hasn't been mentioned. New Bedtime/DND screen and option to skip or change alarm by tapping on it. This is a fantastic addition as I hate having to turn off a day in Bedtime only to have to remember to turn it back on so it doesn't skip next week as well.

Loving the little changes in this update.

Anyone has problem on the camera zoom function on their iPhone X for ios 14?

Meaning usually the previous iOS, i am able to tap on the 1X and it goes to 2X easily. but when i tap 1X, the whole camera preview goes haywire and unable to toggle to 2X via tapping on the 1X bubble.

Do you have a smart battery case? Is your phone low on power?

I was having major problems with safari, like it wouldn’t load any page, and it turned out to be an issue with the smart battery case when it was running low on power.

Have no idea if it is related to your issue, but safari and all web apps just stopped working and I took it out of the smart battery case and everything worked again.

Okay, there is a problem with local carrier in Poland (Orange) and this specific beta - installing 1.1.1.1 and VPN solved issue.

From what I’m gathering, the “folders” show your 3 ‘most used’ apps, then there’s a “folder icon” in the fourth spot. Tap that, and it opens the entire folder so all apps in that category are available. Tap any of the larger 3 icons and you open that particular app.

Maybe I missed it but I haven't seen any thread about "this is the worst release ever" or disappointed because there is nothing new in this release - great job Apple.
People should also remember from past experience the first day on a new IOS there tends to be more space used and more battery drain.

After about a day my “Other” data is still listed as 116GB. I know that‘ll change eventually, but still. And I’m honestly not sure if that space is a duplicate cache of existing stuff? Or is it still moving stuff around and indexing? Who knows.

So far, only works on HDR capable iPhones. No Big Sur, iPadOS, tvOS or presumably older iPhones.

I can pick 4K on the 11PM but only 1080p on SE2020.

Did anyone else wake up to a notification that cellular update failed and you could do nothing until it updated. Cellular came back after a restart thankfully. Would be a pretty critical bug if a communications device couldn't even communicate.

However, if I select emoji input from either the Logitech keyboard or the emoji option (lower right) I am allowed to only enter a single emoji then the emoji screen closes. If I bring up the on screen keyboard and select emoji, I get the full emoji keyboard.

I think I figured out the bug. If you reboot with the smart battery case on the phone, at least with my iPhone 11 Pro Max, something doesn’t load right with iOS 14. And it starts locking up Safari like crazy. Getting “A problem repeatedly occurred” in Safari.

Take it out of the case. Works fine again. Put it back in the case immediately, Buggy again. All web pages fail to render.

After typing this post, put the smart battery case on again, and it’s fine.

I’m not one for putting beta software on my iPhone or iPad, but I like to follow the beta season progress and thank you brave souls who partake, share experiences here, report bugs and feedback suggestions to Apple, to ensure iOS is as good as can be come public release. 🙂

I have a couple of questions please 😊.

1. It’s nice to see the option to choose incoming calls to be shown as a banner rather than taking over the full device. From what I’ve seen, the options are to reject or accept the call. If I’m doing something on my iPhone/iPad when a call comes in, I like to use the “respond with text” feature, where I’ll choose one of a preset number of options, and it’ll automatically decline the call and send a SMS/iMessage with whichever preset message I chose. Are you able to do this on iOS14 with the banner style incoming calls? For example, a long press on the banner might bring up the option to do so.
2. Is autocorrect / QuickPath typing (the swipe typing) improved? I find it annoying in iOS13 that it will change a previously correct word. Forexample, it often does this with the word than. It will be correct when I initially swipe type it, then I swipe type the next word, only to find that it inexplicably has changed than to then.
