But you can just take the pic and crop it when you post it on Insta. It's not that hard to figure out what it will look like as a square...

I know that... but was so much simpler when the camera did the cropping for you... you see the square image and frame it as you see fit. Now you have two choices, both require extra steps - do the 3-step shuffle to get the square setting or the extra steps to crop the image afterwards.

I am fully capable, and it's not difficult to do, it just takes extra work. This change is NOT the "Apple way".

Clearly you just want to argue about it. I don't. My point is that it's just hiding a setting under a convoluted control. It wasn't necessary.

Nor is it the Apple way to have a bunch of different settings of questionable utility to scroll through—there were seven before Square was removed. I'm sure Apple has plenty of data indicating that the Square setting was rarely used, and knew that it could be achieved a number of other ways.

Also, you can turn off the "Preserve Settings" toggle next to "Creative Controls" which should revert the camera back to 16:9 after you take a Square photo, although it doesn't seem to be working properly in this beta.

Hasn’t worked properly for me since IOS 12. Never could get it to work throughout 13.

I am seeing an oddity with Weather and the weather widget. The weather app reports the temp as 115º, but the widget only reports 114º. Earlier in the day, when the temp was just 110º, both the Weather app and the widget showed the same temperature.

My son complains about that - lives near the sports complex. 😂 🤣 😂
The temp ....

Wonder if they are pulling from the same source?

We're about 4 miles west of State Farm Stadium. Yeah, it's that time of year... next comes the seasonal "monsoon" rains in the afternoons and the semi-weekly "haboobs" - the massive dust storms.

BTW, the widget and app are reporting differing temps this morning again - off by one degree (98º vs 99º) - but the SAME app using the SAME data source. It's a beta thing.

I am in the UK and use the Tesco Pay + app. You can search for the app in the App Library screen and it finds it, but search from the home screen and it doesn’t find it. Weird.

The widgets are known thus far as not necessarily updating when they’re supposed to. So what you may be seeing is the widget showing outdated weather conditions and the app showing the current conditions. And if this is happening with 2 weather widgets, one is outdated and the other less outdated.

Widget programming involves timelines and events. I don’t think they have this ironed out for things that need updating in real time. If we had sport scores now, we’d probably be seeing the same thing.

WatchOS7 seems great be honest. IOS14 is also pretty decent until the battery is lower than 50%. Then it goes sluggish and grinds to a halt. For example using video chat, it stutters and it’s obvious from the way the phone reacts that it’s throttling the CPU. Perfectly fine with iOS13 so I have reported as a bug. Is anyone else having this issue?

I have an iPhone 6S

Well we do have the option to have widgets on the Home Screen or leave them on the slide out screen. I do both. The calendar widget on the home screen is helpful, it is a pretty attractive widget (IMHO) and actually syncs and updates properly, the only widget that does for me.
I also would have liked the option to be able to place icons on my home screen where I want them. Being able to leave space empty to allow certain wallpapers to show better is not asking for that much. I don’t know why Apple insists on maintaining that control over a device we pay so much for. I’m looking forward to 3rd party widgets coming as well as getting the stock widgets updating and working better. I’m enjoying this release and other that some widgets being wonky I have no other complaints.
One more thing on my wish list would be to have the App Library optional. I would prefer to use just the list view.

Files app on iPad Pro 11” wont recognize my external HD, but will recognize a flash drive. Seems like iOS 14 doesn’t like APFS?

I noticed the other day using CarPlay on my way home, knowing I still had at least 20 min to go, but it was showing 0 min remaining on my trip. I noticed it was correct initially, but at some point around the 40 miles to go mark it changed to 20 min and then down to 10, then 8, then 2... then stayed on zero the rest of the way. Very weird I was driving with my daughter at the time and didn’t think to trigger the sysdiagnose log..

Does anyone have any NFC tags to test whether automated shortcuts are working?

I’ve never used it before but have recently set up an NFC tag to turn a light on and off. The shortcut runs and functions perfectly rly but the NFC won’t run it (detects the tag perfectly every time though).

[Edit]

The NFC tag runs any automation once, but then never again.

Am I the only one who doesn’t care for the new look with widgets? I just downloaded this beta on my old iPhone 7 and comparing it to the far left widget page, seems Apple is taking a step backwards.

Screen shots of what I’m taking about!!

iOS 13 is far more functional and informative keeping the widgets page only to the far left and out of the way!!

Widgets take up too much of the screen IMO
I personally would like customization to move apps freely and where we like over this widgets crap!!

I hope it gets better by the time the final public release hits.

I do love the App drawer but that’s it based off the new home screen look.
The good news is you don't need to use widgets if you don't want to.

Probably the refresh is off for the widget vs the app. Are they ever in sync?

Apple has never allowed widgets on the home screen, and has never allowed us to put icons wherever we wish. It's been that way for over 10 years now. This year they are giving us widgets on the home screen... time will tell what they allow next.

It IS your device, but it's Apple's software. I suppose you could write your own phone OS and allow what you want to allow. Or use Android. At this time, those are your only options - and it's not a new restriction.

The App Library IS optional. Just don't scroll past your last page of apps. You don't have to use it or even scroll to where you see it.

Yeah, I am sure this will get better/more responsive as we move forward... not incredibly bothered by it... more of an observation at this point (beta 2).

Safari in private mode crashes occasionally, when you push the square bottom right corner to close the website.

Love people complaining about the weather being shown differently while mine doesn’t load it all 😅 started randomly on beta 1 (worked fine before) and continued on beta 2

Same issue here, has a mind of its own at the moment, loads sometimes, then goes blank occasionally.

Weather widget is working fine.

Can confirm this is an iOS 14 beta bug. Someone else with an identical problem (replied to me on Reddit).

I’ve noticed that the Fitness app hasn’t been showing my last split for the last few runs.

I run just with my watch. The workout syncs to the fitness app with the right distance (5k) but only 4 km appear in the Splits section.
