Yeah, 14.2 will be what brings all prior and new devices in parity. But I think 14.1.1 will come out a few days before the iPhone 12’s are released. When initially setting up the new phone, you’d just get a prompt to download and update the software. Any bug fixes in 14.0.1 or even in the 14.2 betas could be ported to a build of 14.1.1 (as 14.1 will already be on the iPhone 12 in the box).

I am partly thinking that all devices will get 14.1.

IOS 14.1 is already on the iPhone 12 in the box. That’s basically a variant of iOS 14, and considering there’s many bug fixes in place since 14 was released, I would absolutely expect a 14.1.1 build to be made available right away. Plus, I’m sure iOS 14.1 contains all of the info regarding the new hardware, and they’re not going to want that made public just yet.

Yea, I know that it will be on the 12, but just would be surprised if they skip 14.1 on the other devices, even though it doesn't have much different for them.

If they’re doing the iPhone announcement on the 13th, with preorders on the 16th, deliveries on the 23rd, they could probably launch iOS 14.1 in calendar week 42, maybe even on the 13th or 14th. By the time everyone‘s getting their iPhone 12 delivered, they could have 14.1.1 at the ready. There’s gotta be some code in 14.1 referencing the new hardware specs and they’re not going to want that out in the wild until after the announcement.

Just throwing it out there. I am STILL on 13.7 after reading all the posts for 2 weeks (14.0, 14.0.1) and still seeing a buggy mess.
I would REALLY love to update...but only if Apple can fix some of the basic mess (messed up / various sized icons, keyboard lags, choppy in and out wifi, and of course god awful battery life...and others bugs)

So..yeah, I'm hoping for another weekly update (sure this may be annoying for those who feel their phones are fine). Maybe 14.0.2 later this afternoon and perhaps this will fix many of the problems? I doubt ALL problems but the major ones Im seeing.

Eh, we shall see.

I'm holding out too. I may wait even longer tbh as none of the new features really excite me. I'm planning on a purchasing a 12 when they come out, I may just wait until then.

Every available version of iOS 14 has been better than 13. The past year has been the epitome of "buggy mess" (at least according to these forums).

What you need to realize is that it's likely way less extreme than what is portrayed around here because this is the type of place people are going to come specifically to complain.

If the comment said something like "nothing so far" perhaps that would be correct at the time (even if it wouldn't really say much), but "nothing today" says something about the whole day, which isn't the case. It hasn't been the case in some instances in the past either.
Sometimes not rushing to make a statement of one type or another can help avoid incorrect statements.
Agreed that legally “nothing so far” is correct till the day ends at 2400 hrs clock time on that date Cupertino time.
however except for few instances , Apple has not released versions after 10 am PST. But yes as agreed, one has to accommodate for exceptions.

Of course they have. There's a 1 PM Pacific timeslot that is fairly common. There are release that have happened later in the day too, even if that is much less common.

Even that aside, plenty of the 10 AM Pacific releases have come out after 10 AM, sometimes as much as Hal an hour of not event more after. So posting right before 10 AM on different days saying that there is nothing happening that day (short of perhaps there being some sort of actual details saying that somewhere) isn't really all that useful and can even be misleading in a sense as it actually has been multiple times already.
