I completely agree. It’s totally user dependent. I use my phone all day long, only a couple short calls a day at most but use a variety of other features and functions throughout the day. I’ve never turned off any setting - no location setting, no background refresh setting, etc. I almost never even look at those settings. My location arrow symbol is always present on the screen because of a variety of features that I need and want to be active.

All this and I’ve never ended the day with less than 50% battery left. Actually I’ve very rarely hit 50%. However I always buy the large Max/Pro Max phones and I always get a new one at least every 2 years if not every year. All batteries degrade over time but over 2 years or less of having my phones I’ve never even had to think about what my batter level is. About the only time I even look at the battery level is when I read the hysterical posts here, especially those about that damn location arrow. Mine has never gone off! Big whoop!!

Lmao I about spit my coffee out reading your comments on the location arrow. But I think you nailed it.

Plus, the thing is, people seem to think Find My has started being more active than in iOS 14, but it hasn’t. It’s just that Apple has made it more transparent in its activity by showing the hollow arrow longer after it has recently used location.

The heat and battery drain overnight is killing me, I'm downgrading to 15.0.1 now and will try installing 15.1 B3 again. The heat my 13 Pro produced overnight is pretty concerning, kind of reminds me of the horror stories of their iPhone's catching on fire lol

Has anyone downgraded to iOS 15.0.1 only to jump back on 15.1 B3? Did this resolve the overheating and battery drain issue for you?

if you have a look at Eddies posts about his 13 pro, B3 was a heat issue. Going back on B2 was ok.

you can try the IPSW way of B3 and see how you get on. I would download B2 while your at it so you can switch back.

from post 147 .

I updated my 13 Pro Max from b2 to b3 and also experienced heat and battery drain, so I did a restore to 15.0.1. Then did the update again through OTA to b3 and no issues now, so there seemed to be a issue updating from b2 to b3.

I’m sitting on b2 waiting for b4. Lol I’m skipping the entire b3 because I’m tired of authenticating all of my bank apps from downgrading again . Did it 4 times and it drove me whacky lol

if your holding alt and selecting your IPSW, it won’t touch your apps so you don’t have to do any of that. It behaves just like you’ve done a OTA update.

That’s exactly what I do when I downgrade and yes it does. I have to install a backup to get everything back.

I also update like this many times, and if the login is lost and I have to put it back. however if I use the update via OTA it never happens. but I think it's something from ios 15, because at ios 14 it didn't happen to me. What's more, if I do a forced restart, twitter loses the login. receives notifications, but if I enter it asks me to log in, a very strange thing.

I just want to get this right as when I’ve upgraded or down graded using the finder+alt+check for update button+IPSW I’ve not had to restore apps, because that specific way of doing things wipes off the iOS and reinstall the selected version.

Can you confirm you went the “check for update” button route when changing iOS? Or were you doing “restore” button?

I downgraded from b3 to 15.0.1 public with 3utools and I didn’t lose any data but had to resign into some apps and redo my Face ID

finder+alt+check for update button+Manually select IPSW will do the same with out 3rd party apps. Just FYI 👍🏼

that’s what this version is designed for to updated and downgrade your IOS without touching data, easy and fast.

EDIT: if your on a mac!

AHHHHHHHH there we go! We have a traitor amongst us cross breeding with his products. Only joking.

I can’t speak for Windows, I would of liked to have thought that process would be universal, but could be the reason your getting promoted for a back up.

if you were on a mac, put it on the Christmas list, you don’t need to use a back up and your iOS gets wiped off and reinstalled quick and easy. If I’d known that early on, I would have instructed you slightly differently. 👍🏼

Haha I can’t afford a mac. One new toy at a time. I’ve wanted one for a long time, but honestly. Never owned or used one

These last several posts are why it’s critical to identify the hardware you are working with. I know we forget about it sometimes but there remain essential differences between the Mac and Windows way of managing iPhones, primarily in backups and software installs.

yeah my bad. You just assume, and shouldn’t, everyone’s on macs. MacRumors, apple phones, MacBook Pro chats… you just automatically are consumed by it, to stop and think, “windows” 😆😂 no chance. Yuk. 😜

Is beta 3 good enough for a daily driver? 15 is not bad but I do find it slightly flakey at times. Thanks.
<sorry for the delayed reply, I'm just now catching up on the thread>

For me, it's definitely good enough and I did install it on my daily driver (iphone 12 pro max), directly from 15.0.1. After 4 days of heavy use, I've tried all the apps I regularly use and many that I use only seldomly. Everything works perfectly well except one game (bejeweled classic) which quits about 1 second after I open it, every time (and it worked fine on 15.0.1 and earlier).

My phone isn't getting hot. Battery life is good (9-10 hours screen on time).

The only reason to hesitate IMHO is the bug that some people are having with phone calls. I haven't had this problem and I've made and received lots of calls since installing 15.1 beta3. But some have, and I'm sure it's extremely upsetting.

Also, review the posts by others who are having problems. Most of the people in this forum are above-average or expert iOS users; many are programmers and app developers. If they're having problems, you can be sure the problems are real. The question is, what % of people on this beta are having those problems, because that's our best guess of the probability we'll experience them if we install the beta. Unfortunately, threads like this aren't great for determining this probability, because people who aren't having any problems are less likely to seek out this thread and post on it.

Sorry this was not more definitive, but that's reflective of the uncertainty around betas.

Of course, public releases are often buggy too. So maybe the safest thing is to run iOS 12.5.5. ;-)
