Does anyone have an idea what date iOS 15 will go live to the public? Is it traditionally the day (Thursdays) before the new iPhones go on sale?

I'd be shocked if they sent the public release out the day after the keynote again this year, tbh. Developers were _not_ happy. (Not that that has dissuaded Apple before...)

The only reason it happened last year was due to COVID and that the phones were not ready to go when the Watches were, and the watches needed iOS 14.

That’s why last year cannot be used for comparison, for this year.

Seems it won't happen this time, xcode GM was released so late last time, which devs only had 1-2 days to submit their apps for iOS 14.

It's a total trainwreck
Actually, GM wasn’t released late, public releases of iOS 14 was early, due to the new watches coming out before the new phones.

That’s why we can’t use last year as a reference, as it was an abnormality, due to COVID impacts.

Last year the Sept event was the 15th, it launched on the 16th.
Last year was slightly different, the Sept 15th event was for Apple Watch, iPad and Apple fitness. The iPhone event didn't happen till October 13th. You are right in that iOS 14th was released on the 16th of September. I imagine this year things will go back to normal with iOS 15 being released a day or two before the iPhones go on sale.

All speculation at this point

When it comes to release schedule, neither iOS 13 nor iOS 14 could be used as references. iOS 13 was impacted by Trump's tariff war against China. iOS 14 was impacted by the pandemic obviously.
Exactly. I’ve been saying that the last couple weeks, but seems mostly in one ear, out the other.

Looking back from future (2022), something else will be said to have impacted iOS 15. So this should also not be taken as reference.
:D

We know from all the reporting that Apple has got the components secured early on. Whereas we knew last year and year before were gonna be different early on.
