It's not Apple's problem if people don't bother. Also, devs should normally receive the GM at least a week before the general public.

No its not but it is in their interest that most people don’t have products that are at risk.

The GM is done loaded on phones waiting to be dispatched.

Devs have had 8 betas to get ready. Same argument last year.

No reason why iOS 15 has to be delayed after tomorrow

Because devs need time to update their apps for iOS 15.0 before people start receiving iOS 15.0?

So 8 betas wasn't sufficient? Didn't stop apple last year. If anything maybe app deveopers are better prepared this.

I remember the devs being mighty upset last year that they didn't get the GM before the public.
Yes they were and within a week it was a non-issue. With iOS 15 banking apps seem to have the biggest issue. Most have been updated already to work on iOS 15
it would seem

I would like to stand corrected if an app developer who had his app ready for beta 9 last year had it broken for the RC. Never heard of it

”most people” don’t care at all about updates.

that‘s why automatic updates are a thing. Because outside apple fanatics, most people don’t rush out to update their phones as soon as it is available. In fact they often don’t even know it is there.

if you’re theory was correct, apple wouldn’t have bother to release the last iOS 14 update. In fact, I believe it is the opposite and that they are back at the original schedule.

ios 15 is probably gonna be available for the general public in a week.

ps: as an iOS dev, I can say that the last RC is a good thing to make sure everything is still fine. We tested our app with all beta. But no matter if this Is fine or not, we will test out all of our apps in the RC. So to do this it’s way better to have a week than a day..

Agree. Or they won’t have bothered releasing 14.8 a day before 15.0

iOS 14.8 isn’t a point fix to fix a UI issue. Its an urgent “working around the clock to fix” exploit update.

With so many sites issuing update recommendation the word is going around to update asap

Theres a large group of people that believe stability only comes with a .1 upgrade so in this case will only upgrade to iOS 15.1 and to answer your question this is why 14.8 came out.

Does beta 8 include exploit fixes? Otherwise the RC could simply be beta 8 with the fixes in which it wouldn't affect app developers who already have their apps ready

Its either this week as per last year or next wednesday as per previous few years

you clearly over-estimate day-to-day users.

"so many sites issuing update recommendation", yes: tech site. If you are not a tech enthusiast (with more people aren't), you won't have the info and...you won't care.

"the world" is not gonna update asap. Tech enthusiasts are.

Beta 8 include bug fixes, but no matter if it is or it is not (apple does not mention everything on release notes). We are gonna test our apps with RC because it is our job to make sure every apps works as expected. So we are gonna test our apps. And most developers will.

It does take a few hours and peoples validation for each app on each iOS company. So yeah, the week between the RC and final release is important ;-)

"update next day after Keynote" was a one shot test (it only occurred once: last year), I sincerely hope they won't do it twice but since iOS 14.8 did get out yesterday, I don't think so. But I guess we will see in a few hours :)

My parents don't read any of these sites. The only way they get updates is if it happens automatically at night or if I explicitly ask them to trigger the update. They probably also don't care for the difference between 14.8 and 15.0 or what a "working round the clock to fix" exploit is. I am sure there are many people like them.

Happy Apple Event Day ya'll

The day we all have been waiting for is finally here. Today will be a very long day. Exciting to enjoy this day with all of you. Can't wait for Release Candidate to be out to the developers and to the public.

Bring out the Champagne bottles!!! Let's Get it On!!!

Devs need Xcode RC to be able to submit the updated apps. There could be changes between the last beta and RC, but realistically, Devs just need the time to check it out, so no big bugs. Plus Apple then have to review and push the updates to the App Store, before public release of 15.0.

Apple won’t want to repeat last year, as people had apps that were broken from 14.0 release, so Devs and people kicked off.

Barclaycard UK and Vanquis Bank in the UK both had non-working apps for a week after 14.0 came out, as iOS 14.0 broke them and since the Xcode RC was released after the event, which was outside of business hours, they could not start to submit the fix until iOS 14.0 was out, and then there was a backlog of apps in the App Store review queue.

Here in the UK, it’s on the BBC News website. I can see it’s on other news sites too, like the New York Times, so 14.8 is being recommended loudly to non-hardcore Apple peeps.
