I would be surprised to see an RC version today or tomorrow, having released beta 5 on Tuesday. To do something like that, they would have released the RC version on Tuesday directly. I bet they release it after the event, with a public release the following week.

I don’t think there will be an iOS 15.5 (or, if there is, it’ll be like 15.3). There might be some 15.4.x’s before June though.
I agree. I think jumping from iOS/iPadOS 14 to 15 was different than 15 to 16. Although, macOS 13 will probably drop support for more equipment. I’m thinking the 2015 MBP’s might be left out. 16 might be another ‘maintenance’ release.

I think we will see 15.5 by July. Maybe a 15.6 before 16.0 comes out. Also stole 15.x.x releases too.

Based on the fact we’ve had at least one x.x release after WWDC and before the next major release.

I’d love to see 15.5 and 15.6 as solid bug fixers, leaving behind a very stable polished iOS 15 to stay on if they don’t fancy iOS 16.

Little bit of OT:
Well, I waited for this release because of faceID with mask recognition. But, here in Czech, duty for masks will end on 13th March.
Why Apple didn't came with this functionality earlier?

I know right. I suppose it’s put in place for a different out break of variant say or that it’s now peoples choice to carry on wearing one.

Why Apple didn't came with this functionality earlier?

For 1 big reason, likely:

-this move significantly reduces the security value of Face unlock due to the reduced number of facial recognition points used to unlock the phone. False positives might be reduced from only 1 quintillion to one to 1 quadrillion to one (made up numbers) but I’m sure it’s orders of magnitude less secure. But still orders of magnitude more secure than the competition.

And 2 smaller reasons:

- changes like this are not simply rewriting a few lines of code, there is a ton of internal testing and calibration to be done.
- Apple (like the rest of us) probably thought we were close to being done with masks late in 2021 (before Omicron). So they probably thought that need for this feature was not worth the trade-off in security. Omicron hit in late December, when 15.3 was already in beta testing. They probably decided then to get it into 15.4, only to then find out that Omicron cases would rise and fall tremendously quickly.

Assuming cases now stay at manageable levels, watch for the feature to quietly be removed again in future releases.

It just means, the less reason to update to 15.4.
