Release on Thursday (tomorrow) is my 2 cents. Add to the growing list of Thursday iOS releases.

Are you thinking public release / RC, or beta 5?

I think we’ll see a RC. Decent possibility tomorrow (Thursday) but next Monday/Tuesday would not surprise me either.

So here’s an interesting question: let’s say 15.5 is released in the next 14 days (so by the 26th). Will Apple release a 15.6 beta 1 between then and WWDC?

Personally, I don’t think so. There will be a 15.6, I am sure, but beta 1 will likely come the day after the WWDC keynote and the release of 16.0 b1.

The only caveat to that is if 15.5 is released by 5/19. Then I think we would see 15.6 b1 before WWDC.

I think RC today. I'm not sure but I feel we've seen a few RC's released lated in the week on this iOS15 train.

If I were Apple, I would release a beta 5 this week, an RC version next week, I would leave a week without a release or release an RC2, to release iOS 15.5 on May 31. The following week they will launch the first beta of iOS 16, and the following week the beta of a possible iOS 15.6, thus avoiding saturation of the servers. In addition, in the betas of iOS 15 I think that few people will stay, the vast majority will be launched to those of iOS 16, as is logical. But this is Apple, and I think nothing can be ruled out 100%, not even an RC version this week.

I believe most of the builds last week minus iOS were A builds. It seems usually that is a good sign that we are close to a release. I am thinking RC today with a public release sometime next week. Maybe a RC2 next week, but I don't think that is needed.

I would assume the only reason an RC build would be needed at this point would be to remove all of the extra logging & diagnostics that are always included in the beta builds. That's usually what tends to decrease battery life (and can fill up the 'Other' Section in iPhone Storage Settings). But at least for me, the latest iOS & watchOS betas have been great 👨‍🍳💋

And remember, regardless of whether any of these releases are 'a' builds, the regular daily work will continue and new builds will continue. Maybe if we see 2-3 'a' builds released in a row, we'd have a better idea of how on track they are.

I think a good rule of thumb is that if there is an RC2, it will be because it was needed, not because it was planned for: meaning if there is one, it's because there was something seriously wrong with the initial release candidate. So, the working assumption should always be that there will only be one RC.
