If you don't like then you don't have to use it.
It's an option for those who want to try out a little customization while still using Apple's iOS and not switching to Android.
No, that's not how options work.
We have options when there is a legitimate use case for something other than the default, but it can't be the default.
We don't take bad ideas and just make them options, with the excuse that no one has to use it.
Calendars often default to week view, but have Month and Day view options. We don't have "Circle view" as an option that shows all of your events around a wheel.

Well.. whether it's a good or bad idea is relative and varies from person to person and that's why it's good to have more options.
Your analogy of circle view for events is completely off.. by having wallpaper color-matched theme, you are not going change the rectangular calendar view into a circle. It's just going to give you an option to change colors depending on your wallpaper and if you prefer then always stick to the default. The option is meant for people who like the Apple ecosystem but want a little bit of personal customization.
Have you looked at Apple's new new colorful iMacs and wallpapers? Apple is willing to explore new designs to keep customers in its ecosystem.

Really I can’t wait until 7 June

As someone who leads an entire team of software developers for a decent size software product, I can say definitively, No. It is not. It is best to have the fewest number of options possible, while meeting actual needs. Not whims of people with no idea what they're talking about.

No, it is exactly on point. It is an example of something you think is ridiculous that couldn't possibly be compared to your idea. But that's how both ideas are seen from the outside. FWIW, this was not in response to color matching from wallpaper. It was response to changing App icons.

That's not what they're doing.

My comment was about wallpaper color-matched theme and not App icons, so not sure what's the argument about?

Apple allows developers to provide icon options already.

Apple are more controlling over their own though, and that’s their choice.

Am really hoping for a new Redesign phone app with iOS 15. We been using the same look since iOS 7 days for the past decade

If it ain’t broke, why try to fix it? I can’t think what they could do with it.

I think it was just a result of comment chain. Your comment that I replied to was in response to another comment that mentioned App icons and it seemed like it was response to you, but may not have been.

For one, they could add T9 type contact searching to allow you could quickly find a contact by “typing” their name on the dial pad. For example, you could type 472 to find “Grandma, Grant, and Grayson” and then just tap on who you want to call to start calling. This has been around since feature phone days and is so fast and convenient that I don’t understand it’s omission…

Edit:Typo

That’s so 90’s. It was only around and popular due to the lack of a full keyboard on phones until smart phones. It’s gone the way of DVD, VHS, Betamax…..

The phone app defaults to the contacts tab, so typing GRA on keyboard is quicker than tapping to go to dial pad and then those digits. Plus there’s so many variables with using t9 to search for contacts, that make it redundant.

My expectations can be summed up in a couple of points,

1. iPhone 6s and SE dropped off, they do have the potential and the processing power to survive another year of updates, but the battery capabilities and the screen size limitations (with the SE) shall prevent these devices from receiving intensive newer features, and they’ve both received 6 years of updates anyhow.

2. Farewell, iPad Air 2. This big guy has been supported for about 7 years now, it’s time that Apple calls it quits. The less lucky 2017 iPad 5 and iPad mini 4 shall also receive no further updates.

3. The massive return of skeuomorphism, we shall expect refreshed icons that add a sense of depth. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite feature, but I trust Apple’s transitions.

4. Updated Widgets with support for interactions. I also expect many more stock widgets to join the current iOS 14 collection.

iPadOS will support the ability of having widgets any where on the home screen.

5. Accessibility features (Already announced)

6. Improvements to the Find my app, AirTag has made this app quite more useful, with more users rushing to use it, I expect a refreshed UI and easier controls.

7. Weather app redesign, with Apple taking over Dark Sky, the popular weather app, I think it’s pretty clear that Apple plans to have a more independent weather app that boasts a new design, more info, and is not based on Yahoo or The Weather Channel.

8. It’s unlikely that iPhone will receive anything related to multitasking and it’s derivatives, the whole running 2 apps at once thing is possible, yet I think Apple would like to keep it “iPad exclusive”. However, I always like to think this feature is coming to iPhone, hopes high, fingers crossed.

9. A whole new control center, it’s no secret that Apple has been keen on improving this specific area with every update. However, it hasn’t received any major design change since iOS 11. With the growing list of user chosen functions and toggles, I expect an overhaul.

10. Notifications, hopefully. I believe Apple will clearly mention improvements to notifications, the extent of such changes is however unknown. I would like a change to how they look in general, I’d like to see prettier notifications on my lock screen, there should be a bar in the control and notification center where app logos are presented to give the user a peek at what the notifications panel contains (similar to android but should be done more aesthetically)

11. I don’t expect a lot of changes to Health, Reminders, stocks or books.

12. Calendar app overhaul, it should receive a strongly needed redesign.

13. Some screenshots have leaked through the Accessibility features announcements showing a slightly different design in Settings, I think that this would extend to mail as well.

14. I strongly hope that the widget pane is gone forever, it’s not favorable that I have widgets on every single area in my home screen, notification panel and lock screen.

15. I’m guessing notes might receive a slight update to the sketch feature, I would preferably want Apple to introduce notebook-feel backgrounds and the ability to record voice memos inside notes.

I would be seriously disappointed if WWDC does not bring:
  • Shared iCloud Photo library
  • Widgets (anywhere on the Home Screen) and App Library for iPadOS
  • More default apps categories
  • Contacts privacy should not be all or nothing (should offer a choice of Me, Selected Contacts, All Contacts, None)
  • More customizable App Library
  • Icon themes

We must have interactive widgets, right now they're useless except for 3rd party photos widget.

I want an Email widget and the ability to resize the widget similar to android.

Can we also pick what albums/photos appear in the photo widget and not random.

I'm expecting big sur icons, AoD/new lock screen and new control centre.

I think that external monitor support with extend screen mode will be a feature of iPadOS 15. Do you think that will be an exclusive feature for iPad Pro with Thunderbolt port or the “old” USB-C port will be fine as well?

I use “photo widget” from the App Store and it displays selected photos I choose, changing randomly at set intervals. Maybe check it out.

The iPad Pros are amazing, but falls short with the iOS.

Every tech site has said as much...in 2018, 2020 and now 2021.

One would have to believe major things are coming at WWDC. At the very least, Apple’s own pro apps (Final Cut, Motion, xCode etc.) should be made available for iOS.

  1. improve install/update performance
  2. split ios image to allow update of individual apps
  3. simplify siri setup options for apps, there are currently 4 of these
  4. don’t change icloud options if you logout then login to the cloude on a device
  5. allow deleting an apps local cache including apple apps
