I want home screen, icon and widget customization without jumping through hoops. Make it easy like on android. That would be great. iOS is the same boring look and springboard since 1 really. same static icons that you cannot position yourself you have to fight to put them places. Time for apple to give it's users a bit of freedom to make their phones personal.

I agree with you on customization, since apple is so good at software design, I’d like for them to release their own theme store.

Not boring at all, if anything iOS and android are more similar than ever when it comes to home screens, no need to go overboard like Samsung and bog down the OS with pointless customization features, a theme store controlled by apple is more than enough.

What would be so bad about letting you put icons anywhere; even a few at the bottom. Not just top to bottom as you fill the page.

Or letting say widgets be interactive (REALLY needed as theyre just app links right now) or drag to enlarge or shrink them (deleting and replacing with the new size is silly).

None of that is a major paradigm shift.

Mail needs a major overhaul as has been posted. it is the same basic app as iOS version 1. Most of the other stock apps have gotten their major overhaul. iOS14 added little to nothing; and there is a ton missing.

This goes back to the customization. It is boring. It's the same as it essentially was since iPhone 1. At least from the beginning of android you could make your phone the way you want. hell, my first android phone which was the HTC HERO, it had 5 scenes for different parts of your lifestyle built right in. You customize the way you want. It was awesome. Like having 5 phones in one.

If you’re hoping iOS gets a massive overhaul for customisation you’re going to be disappointed, it’s unfair to say iOS is still the same since iPhone 1, samsung has gone way overboard with all their customisation, their settings page is like a never ending story book, way to much clutter that isn’t needed.

No OS is perfect but I prefer iOS over any other OS, sure you don’t get 20000 features/customisations, it’s a polished not fragmented, no bloat OS, I’ll be happy with a apple managed theme store, but don’t want 20000 different settings to clutter everything and bog down the system.

Happy with the pace apple is going at, if I ever had to leave iOS, google pixel would be my next phone, since their software, not perfect, but simplified, runs well, and works way better than the other manufactures that are using android.

Sometimes less is more and you end up with a better user experience because of it.

I am not talking about samsung directly. I am talking about android in general. At least you have your own choice on how your phone looks. Apple is "my way or the highway". And yes, it's basically the same in visuals as ios1. Pixel is nice. Plus you can make it look and feel the way YOU want not the way apple tells you to want it. The same goes for MacOS as well. some little differences but it's the same feel of OS since the beginning of the dock layout.

It'd be good if Shortcuts could be a bit more like the 'Macro' function on Excel. I'd like (for example) to be able to turn off notifications from several apps at once when I'm not working, but Shortcuts can't do that (or turn them back on).

Similarly before I had my HomePod Minis, going through all the menus to get the bluetooth speaker connected was more buttons than necessary, several times a day.

For that you just long press the bluetooth icon in the control centre and you can pick the device you want rather than messing about with the menus.

That‘s rumored for iOS 15 in the form of „profiles“ you can configure (e.g. a work profile that turns off certain notifications or more prominently presents work related things). Hope it‘s true, my iPhone already knows when I‘m at work due to significant locations. Would love if I could just disable non-work related notifications when I‘m at work.

Its the same grid of icons as iOS 1. Yeh you can do widgets now which are info and links to apps; even a step backwards from iOS13 where the widget could have actual function in it.

And how about official support (not shortcuts) for changing icons/themes? How hard would that be? Or you can change the notification bubble on the app icon color. Or not require icons to start at the top left and down; place them anywhere. This would not affect the OS one bit.

Why are iOS diehards so afraid of any little change. I dont get it. If you are happy no one is FORCING anyone to change anything. It's an option; like default browser and mail apps. No one is forced to use it.

Exactly. I don't understand. It's like if apple says to do or not to do something they are ROCK SOLID in that. Like it's betraying Jesus or something.

This is why my iPhone is my backup device. No customizations or at least very little. Hoping for some more customizing options with this release. I might even be inclined to upgrade to the latest iPhone if this new release allows me some freedom and customizing my phone to make it my own.

I will say unless something in iOS15 impresses next week I am SERIOUSLY giving the newest Pixel a look. The renders look good so far if the specs align. I have flirted with the idea getting bored since the iPhone 3GS, but it's a serious iook this year. Android is pushing their OS a lot after I/O and it's going to be a lot nicer visually now, and with actual functional widgets. Not just info displays. And stuff Apple still refuses to add like split screen and others.

iOS14 did give a lot of new stuff, but stuff like the widgets, while welcomed, are really half-baked/gimped in traditional Apple fashion. Default apps is half baked for the few they announced and nothing since.

Most of the other stuff like Siri and incoming calls out of the way in a compact UI was stuff they should have been many many years ago. Just fixing UI blunders that people compained about for years.

I have never ever used the App Library personally; that's a waste feature personally.

Like why the hell can I not adjust my Ecobee thermostat up or down a degree from the widget without going into the app or Home app? Because you can't have any functional buttons in widgets god knows why! Showing me the thermostat and sensor temps are great, but that is just info and a link to the app; not actionable. If I have to reach to the top of a big phone, pull down control center, and then click the thermostat icon in n Home favorites to adjust it mine as well just open the app.

I guess that is also a mini rant of why is control center still so hard to get to. And way not one swipe down for notifications and then one swipe left to control center (right to the widgets). The different parts of the screen is still tough and doesnt always get what you want. Instead of the camera; why would anyone need that there?

And honestly, the notch is just old and tired now. This will be year 5 with the George Jefferson haircut. Face ID is fine, but fingerprint just makes more sense overall for the design of devices (on tablets you have a border so have room). Until it can go under display.

I feel your pain for sure. Wait for the pixel 6 if you decide to go that route. The cameras are a major upgrade.

If history holds, the developer preview will be released Monday or Tuesday of WWDC (06/07 or 06/08)... the public beta is typically a week or so later... and in some years, there was no dev preview 1 equivalent released for the public beta -- the public beta didn't start until dev preview 2.

I guess we'll have to wait to know for sure ... but I feel pretty certain that there will be no public beta until at least 06/14.
More than likely towards the end of the month. DP1 is usually 2-3 weeks in duration. PB1 should appear with DP2.

The only thing I really want from iOS 15 is bilingual Siri (Siri getting the ability to understand 2 different languages without having to change the settings each time). Since I mostly speak French with my friends, I have to put Siri in French to send messages, but it won't understand a thing if I want to listen to music since most of my music is in English. If I put Siri in English, it won't understand if I want to send messages in French.

I've been hoping for that feature for years, so I'm not really holding my breath for it anymore.

If i join ios beta there show me the ios 14 beta profile. Will ios 15 have a new profile or did my phone update automatically to ios 15?

You’ll have to remove the iOS 14 profile and download the iOS 15 profile

iCloud Notifications is sorely needed.

Completely agree. I no longer have an iPad but that’s one thing I don’t miss-reading an email on my phone when I was at work to come home and have the same notification on my iPad.

I know some people would like to see an AOD with OLED models but part of me hopes the likes of the XR etc with LCD panels might get it as an option too.

I refuse to accept „Notification sync“ as a valid request. This has been possible since probably forever. It‘s just up to the individual developer to implement on their own.
Loads of apps do sync their notifications even with non-Apple devices (e.g. a chat app that automatically removes unread message notifications on your iPad when you respond / read said messages on a Windows PC app or a website).

It‘s a GOOD thing that Apple doesn‘t handhold / force developers hands in that regard, because there might be use cases where automatic syncing of notifications can be detrimental to the user experience.

Agreed. Apple screwed the entire biometric systems on their devices. Macbooks and iPads should have face id, and phone should always have touch ID. use case scenario. I have my phone on my desk while doing other things. A notification comes in, someone is at the desk with me so I don't want to have to pick up my phone etc, just touch the touch id sensor and quickly look at the notification. That does not work with faceID. there are many more examples too. Just a poor overall use of biometrics. As for moving on, if iOS does not give me some customizations I am gone too. I am looking at a note 10 lite to see if I will like the S pen. I am working alot while mobile now, and taking notes on the run is going to be much more frequent. I don't want to shell out a 1000 on a note 20 ultra or s21 ultra yet unless I use the pen like I think I will. But going into a home to take notes for the listing will be a boon with the note.

I dont get it. If you have the phone already in your hand Face ID offers little "extra." Sure you dont have to touch to confirm a password or log in. That is what, a fraction of a second saved?

But things like you mention- on a desk- or things like in a car mount, or when we wore masks are all drawbacks.

It would have been better with the iPhone X to put Touch ID on the back and go from there; even if under screen wasn't ready.

Or hell, even better the power button like the iPad Air. Nothing wrong with that either and an elegant solution that you can unlock even when on a desk. That would have been a perfect solution really.

A hole punch and Touch ID is far, far better than Face ID real world functionally and aesthetically. That fraction of a second isn't worth the design compromises they had to make. Apple overengineered this to say "we're different look at USSSSS" and created a problem where there was none.

An Face ID makes 100% sense on a laptop or Computer that you are already staring at the camera area and screen. Not Touch ID. Totally backwards.
