Completely agree. I no longer have an iPad but that’s one thing I don’t miss-reading an email on my phone when I was at work to come home and have the same notification on my iPad.

I know some people would like to see an AOD with OLED models but part of me hopes the likes of the XR etc with LCD panels might get it as an option too.

I do not have that problem. Email syncs up fine for me on my iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. If I read it on one device it is gone on the others.

A few things I hope we see with iOS 15:

- I would like to be able to have my own custom wallpaper that can do light and dark mode, built right into settings, just like I can do on macOS. I know there are ways to do it with shortcuts, but its still an inelegant solution.

- Right now, for location, you can give an app one-time permission, but if you decide to deny it location permission, you have to go back into settings to re-enable it. In addition to "Allow Once" option, I would appreciate a "Ask Next Time" option, so that I can not share my location this session, but be asked if I want to the next time I use it.

- One thing I really appreciate about Android notifications is that I can control individual notifications an app sends. For example, let's take a banking app. Right now, I can only set preferences for every notification the app sends me. With individual notification control, I could have it set so that notifications that my card's been used only deliver to my Notification Center, but notifications that a payment is due creates a badge and sends a notification. You could take this even further. For example, set a chat app so that certain people's messages come through DND but others don't.

- Allow all developers to use the Picture-in-Picture API for video calls. In addition, allow Mapping applications to appear in PiP as well (like Android).

- It would be great to have a "Guest" mode in Home. You can just share the invite over iMessage or even just AirDrop the invite to your guest, and they can have limited control of your home for a set period. This would be great if you have family staying or you operate an AirBnB.

- In addition to guest mode, more robust permission controls in the Home app would be great. For example, if you have roommates or kids, you wouldn't want them controlling the lights in your bedroom, but you still want them to have access to the living room lights. Allow restricted profiles so that these users can't control certain accessories or rooms.

- Similar to the Android dialer, I think integrating Search into the Phone app would be a great idea. You would be able o type in Contact names to quickly call them, or instantly find business phone numbers.

- Manual controls integrated into the camera app for photo and video. There are still benefits to using third party apps for manual controls, but having them integrated in the Camera app can allow for higher quality custom shots faster and easier.

- Using the U1, Proximity contact cards! Hold iPhones close to get a stylish contact card with information you choose. You could share your phone number and email with a client or friend, or of course nothing at all.

- More and more states in the US are beginning to trial or fully support digital IDs and drivers licenses. It's time to have official native support for licenses and government IDs inside the Wallet app.

- Right now, on iPadOS 14, the only way to activate search is from the home screen or with an external keyboard. This can make tablet multitasking annoying and inconvenient. Either allow for the ability to activate search from anywhere with a gesture or an icon built into the Dock.

- I was actually surprised with how accurate the Translate app can be at times (the conversation mode helped me with a Chinese customer at work a while back), but it's still very limited compared to other translation apps. The biggest and most useful feature it needs is the ability to translate printed words and signs.

Probably out of place in a speculation thread, but I can't think of a better place to ask. I'm hoping there's a developer or someone who is a more "seasoned" beta tester than I am, who could give me an idea of what to expect.

I have beta tested iOS ever since 11, but did the public betas. My experience with iOS 14 betas came out of left field. The day of WWDC, later in the evening, I received an "AppleSeed" invitation for the betas for ALL of the platforms. So instead of having to wait the week (or few days) after developer beta releases, I was getting betas at the same time as the developers (however, they were labeled as "public"). I was active in terms of the requirements. I actively reported bugs, responded to any feedback that required more information, etc. I'm not someone who downloads the betas just to have them. I enjoy the bug hunt, so I'm definitely an active user in that regard.

My question is if anyone knows how that will work come tomorrow. Was me receiving this invitation last year a one-off situation, or should I possibly be expecting to receive one tomorrow and be allowed to install a beta tomorrow instead of waiting until the public beta comes out later this month? Or would I just have to log into the AppleSeed website and the profile will be available for download right off the bat?

I'm not looking for guaranteed answers, since of course no one but Apple will know for sure, but just curious if anyone has any past experiences that could give me an idea? Receiving that invitation last year really surprised me. I was anticipating having to wait until the actual public betas released later in the month!

I’d say there’s a better than even chance you’ll get another invite, if they do that again. If 15 is another 13 (“too rough for non-developers” was how I think they put it), then maybe not. But in that case, heed the warning!

Back up, back up, back up!

Good luck!

Before becoming a developer a few years back, I reported some issued with macOS... and got an AppleSeed invitation for macOS (was still "Mac OS X" back then)... that AppleSeed invitation automatically renewed for a few years until I started developing and got my own paid account... granted, that was on the Mac side, but I'd guess the chances are reasonable that you will get a new invitation with iOS 15.

Makes sense, thanks! Yeah, I was thinking if there was even a reasonable chance, I'd get ahead of the curve and do my back-up during my lunch hour and then just be ready to go as soon as I get home!

Thanks!

Good to know, thanks! I'm basically going into this year expecting pretty much anything since getting that invitation last year caught me by surprise. I also figure the fact that I was active in terms of reporting would increase the chances as well.

It's time Siri becomes more proactive instead of just something you press a button and hope picks up your question properly. The amount of data the iPhone can generate is insane. The amount of data we share willingly is extraordinary.

Examples (as notifications from Siri):
  • Hi Steve, I see you just left home, but you left the garage door open. Should I close it?
  • You've been getting a lot of email from XYZ that you don't seem to open. Do you want me to hide notifications form that sender?
  • You seem to be spending more time on Instagram the past few weeks than average. Did you want me to configure screen time to help you cut back?
The promise of Siri was always a personal, virtual assistant. For me it's failed to live up to that promise. I want an assistant, not a way of searching the web or setting a timer/alarm with my voice. My hope is that iOS 15 sees meaningful steps towards this with an eye on privacy.

I would like basic integration between Maps and Calendar so that my next appointment automatically shows up in the Maps app. Seems so fundamental, I’m really surprised it doesn’t happen already – but I don’t believe it does.

2 weeks till the first public beta? Have they ever released it earlier?

Can't wait for what Apple is going to bring to the famous messages apple. Hopefully, they took some features from Whatup App.

Let's get it!!!

Expectations:

- if widgets can be placed anywhere on screen, only Apple is stopping the icons from following the same behavior. Icons should also be allowed anywhere, like widgets, like Android.
- keyboard touch areas need improvement for accuracy
- notifications and badges need to disappear from all other devices if interacted with on one connected device
- new tones, thank you
- don't care much for wallpapers, but they are always welcome
- animation speeds can be improved. They did that in initial betas for the 8, and have seemingly rolled back. Not a placebo.
- iPhone X-style Dock for Home Button-style phones
- icon grid to be made 12 icons instead of 9 in a folder
- more icons can be displayed in the App Library icon grids as well
- redesigned Field Test Mode for Qualcomm-enabled iPhone (so I can see CA Status easily).

I don't know if even one of these will be done by Apple in iOS 15.

After using WhatsApp more than iMessage, I am really hoping they incorporate a lot more of their features into it. Like the online/last online feature, starred messages, wallpaper backgrounds, etc.
