Not seeing any change between 17.0.3 and 17.1 when it comes to WiFI.
That does raise an ongoing question.

My WiFi supports 6 and 6e at 1GB down, 50MB up.
The speed on my 15PM is pretty much always < 500MB down and < 40MB up.
The speed on my S23U is pretty much always > 500MB down and close to 50MB up.

Why is the 15PM so much slower?

No issues here on my 15 PM, my internet speed is 1.1Gbps down, 110Mbps up and the 15 PM on Wi-Fi 6 (not E as my router doesn't support it) on my Netgear RAX200 router is pulling 1168Mbps down, 101Mbps up. This was on 17.0.3 and 17.1 RC.

Looking at link speed between the 15 PM and my router its connecting at 2.4Gbps, so plenty of extra speed I could squeeze out of this if my internet was even quicker.

Anyone else been experiencing FaceTime calls not connecting since iOS 17? If so, does 17.1 resolve?

Is there a fix in 17.1RC for Apple Car Play issues? I can connect and it’s all working except the new interface for messages via Siri. I can’t reply to a message or send a message using Siri in the car. I can use Siri in the house or anywhere else but not the car. Apple Support said they’ve had numerous reports about this but I don’t see a fix for this in the notes. Anyone else have this problem? Or tried car play with 17.1RC installed?

Just discovered that if you open the camera app, aim at a business card and then select the text, iOS will offer to create a contact. I’ve used this functionality on the Adobe scan app before but was not aware that iOS did this now.
I just tried this and it didn’t work. I was excited when I saw your post as I used to have an app that would do this but it wasn’t reliable. So I tried this with a business card I have for a car salesman. When I selected the text it displayed all the info on the card, displayed options to start an email to the address on the card, an option to get the location and directions to the dealership, and an option to call the number on the card, but no option to create a contact. Was there something specific you did after selecting the text?

Songs favourited via HomePod aren't being added to my library. The star appears so that aspect is working, just nothing is added.

Also still no Favourites playlist

Anyone know?
Honestly not sure! And I'm on macOS 14.1 and iOS/iPadOS 17.1.. I know that the Star Ratings are still available in the Music App on macOS, and the new Favorite option just appears as an additional Star Icon by the album/track. The Music app on iOS, for ME anyway, has been a disaster. When I connect to CarPlay and open the Music App, it takes maybe 3-4 minutes until everything finally seems to load and show. Until then my Music Library looks totally empty. This isn't happening on my iPad or Macs, or my Wife's iPhone, and continues to shock the heck out of me each time I get into my Car and try playing ... anything.

Found an article from last year that detailed how to do this. Just press and hold on the phone number, email address, etc. and a contextual menu will come up with one option being to add to contacts.

Will only update to 17.1 next week, but out of curiosity, what is the voice command meant to be used via the HomePod - “add this song to my favourites”?

I just said 'Siri, favourite this song' and it responded 'Done'

Since this morning I have a strange behaviour. Even if I logged into my WiFi network at home my iPhone 15 Pro shows 5G. Only if I disable cellular I get the wifi icon. If I enable cellular again, it shows 5G again.

Restarted a few times and also reset my network settings did not help. Also deactivated private wifi address.

So it is connected to wifi but shows 5G:

I'm not home right now but let me try this again when I get home and see if I can recreate what I did. I was so amazed it happened that I wasn't paying attention.

See if this stops happening when you get near your router.

I’ve seen that happen in iOS (even in 16) when the WiFi signal is poor. It will start to prefer cellular over WiFi. I believe it’s related to “WiFi assist”. Any traffic that needs to go over WiFi (such as connecting to router) will still do so.

That sounds right. But it added everything not just what I tapped.

Also, as I am now home, I confirmed that.

But it’s not perfect: the business card I tried it on has the name and address on one side of the card and the email and website on the other. It will only capture those 2 blocks separately. Still it’s a nice feature to have.

Tried that. Near the router I only have Edge but still no wifi icon. I also tried to disable wifi-assist without any luck.

The iPhone is on my desk between a MBP an a Mac Mini which both are connected to my Wifi with strength signal.

Later I will restart my router and see what happens.

Interesting. Yeah, I’ve seen some mixed information about the new Favorite system in 17.1 — some people on Reddit have said that they had to go back and re-favorite everything after the switch. I don’t have any “loved” songs or albums, so that’s not a problem…but I’d rather not have to re-favorite all of the artists. Guess we’ll see what happens next week…

Well, after going thru some more albums and songs in my Music Library, it seems like the new Favorite option is in addition to, not replacing. Yet. Maybe. Who knows. Right now there’s still the star system, hearts/loving something, and now this new Favorite option. All at the same time lol

Usually when that happens it means your wifi is giving really poor connectivity and the iPhone doesn't recognize it as an "Internet wifi" but just a device you connect to (like some IoT device, a printer, etc).

Try disabling private MAC address for that wifi in the iPhone settings. I'm pretty confident that if you go to a website like whatismyip.com, as long as no wifi icon is shown, you will see the IP address of your mobile provider, not of your home Internet provider.

Hey there, using my iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 17.1 Developer RC and I noticed that sometimes the Battery indicator jumps from example 70% to 68%, or 43% to 41... its not every time happening but I noticed it several times.
Is that normal?

The most of the time it goes from lets stay 80->79->78 etc... anyone did notice something several?
