Apple updates (Mac/iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch) have never worked via Personal Hotspot. Silly restriction IMO. Especially now that cellular iPhones & iPads can update over cellular… Celluar Apple Watch still requires Wi-Fi though.
Yep, so dumb. But not quite as dumb as requiring a charger to start an update even if the watch battery is sitting at full. Luckily I have watch chargers in multiple locations but it’s still an unnecessary inconvenience.

Preferred pronouns (he/him/his, she/her/hers, they/them/theirs, etc.) are now available in the Contacts.
It would be great if I could turn that off globally as a user so that I don't have to go in and manually delete that item from every shared contact from someone who buys into that. Delving further it could be nice to globally suppress specific fields from contact imports(shares) generally speaking.

How many times have a link from FaceBook or LinkedIn get ported with a shared contact card? I don't use FaceBook and only LinkedIn when I'm job hunting. I'm not going to go stalking you on social media. So I'd rather not get those fields either. The social media fields also push birthdates and other data to the contact card which isn't always useful.

Just cos you don’t like it/mock it, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be there. There’s obviously a demand for it.

It’s optional to complete it.

I’m not using it, but I won’t begrudge/mock it being added for those that want it.
Oh I didn’t mean it as such in a negative way. I’m a huge fan of pronoun usage (trans woman). I was more wondering why the poster seemed so against it being there since you don’t HAVE to fill out and if it is filled already it isn’t harming anything.

Sorry for the confusion 😊

My apologies, it seemed to me you were hating on it, but I can see how it was meant the way you stated.

Check out the new iOS 17 350+ Top Features/Changes.

I love this videos of Jeff Benjamin.

The more I read about iOS 17 the more I like it! It’s just an optimized and refreshed version of iOS with lots of little new additions. Some may find it boring, I absolutely like this philosophy.

Truly, how many more huge features can they implement (absent hardware changes)? This is a pretty mature platform now.

But I agree that these little improvements are very nice.

Exactly! If people want/need more, android exists. But for me, iOS 17 is a really good update.

New splash screen for locked private browsing asking if you want to enable.

Wasn’t there before and it was on by default.

I love the new “Standby” function. I have a Volkswagen Up! car which has a smart phone holder. When I place my iPhone into the holder and connect a charge cable the iPhone displays a clock/calendar, and when I play music via Bluetooth it displays the album art and play controls.

What an excellent video!

He went a bit fast over the new Photo widget and it was pixelated.

Could anyone confirm that there is, in fact, a new widget that shows photos from any Album?
it’s a feature I’ve really wanted since Widgets released.

By the way, Apple used to have two sections for the upcoming iOS on their site, the Overview and another section called Full Specs or something like that which listed a huge number of change far beyond the Overview. I see the Overview but can’t find the other detailed section. I assume they quit doing it?
If so, that makes me sad.
If anyone know where it is I’d definitely appreciate a link

I used to enjoy reading that comprehensive list of features… but apparently they didn’t publish it for iOS 17.

I’ve been tryin to look for it, and even forcing the URL, but it just doesn’t exist. The preview page is longer and more detailed this year, maybe they stopped listing all the little things.

Being a bit geeky, it is often those little things that make my life better rather than the flashy main features

Maybe it will be there once iOS 17 is officially released? Could be they’re just covering themselves if any get pulled before then.

Can anyone tell me if they have increased the background noises in iOS 17?

For those who don’t know what this are, click on the Spoiler:

It is a feature of the control center icon named “Hearing”, if you put it on the control center, it will look like this:

A650D4E2-3CD1-4C81-B044-EE37EA4D04F7.jpeg

If you press it, you will see this menu, with the option to enable background sounds and choose one of them:

Then, after tapping on the sound (red arrow), you can see this menu where you can choose from, at least on iOS 15, 6 different sounds: pink noise, white noise, brown noise, ocean, rain and river (see screenshot below):

My question is, have this sounds changed in iOS 17? Are there more than six to choose from? Thank you.

Why don’t Apple advertise these features
