Is it possible to block un-saved contacts that don't have a regular number?
In my country it's common to receive SMS spam from non-number numbers, so blocking them was not possible in iOS16. 🙏

Basically you want to block contact from any number not saved in contacts? No, not yet.

Brandon Butch at his latest video said the call log list in iOS 17 now has 2000 entries!

Yeah. I actually tried to save the spammers as a contact and then block, but even that isn’t possible when they use an alias to hide their number.

Very disappointing, I reported this issue 3 or 4 years ago. Maybe next year. 🤕

One pleasant feature, now, every app can be customised with font size, bold/normal etc as per user's choice. Long awaited feature.

Can anyone confirm if Spotify has updated it's widgets to be interactive? For example to have a play button as Apple music?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think 3rd party apps will start to get interactive widgets updates until after the official release in September

They cannot do this until the Release Candidate of Xcode is released (other than in Test flight builds, of course).

I guess I'm an odd duck - when I go to bed I want my phone to go completely dark. I wear my watch to bed and tap it if I need/want to see the time. Any other light in the bedroom is unwanted.

And that how it will remain if you use the Sleep Focus/ Sleep Alarm feature: the phone display only lights up if you touch the phone or gesture in front of it. Otherwise the display remains unlit.

Nope I’m with you. It has to be pitch black or I’m not sleeping 😂

Ah when they use a name/word instead of a number?

Think that might be a hard issue relating to the carrier provider, and therefore may not be possible for Apple to provide a way to deal.

I was using non-Apple devices 4 years ago and this was a non-issue back then. So although it may be difficult to solve, it has already been done effectively.

Correct. And that is, because developers cannot compile their code against a beta compiler and beta frameworks.

If Spotify's working on it, the earliest they can release it is probably September 19 this year.

iOS updates not possible over tethered iPhone connection?

Not sure if this is iOS 17 related, but since I was trying it while running PB1 will ask here.

So I updated my iPhone to iOS 17 PB1 and then shared its cellular connection with my WiFi-only iPad Air 5 to update it to iPadOS 17 PB1 as well. However, when going to Settings > Software Update the “Download and Install” button was greyed out, saying that iPad needed to be connected to WiFi in order to go ahead.

Is this a normal behaviour or can any settings be adjusted to allow this? I can easily update apps, stream stuff, etc. on the same iPad via this tethered connection. I could not find any enabled restrictions in the settings related to the hotspot, like “low data mode” etc. Also, on my iPhone that shares the internet connection out, iOS updates via cellular are opted in.

It’s just my cellular connection is much faster than the wired one, so it would be good to use it for these large downloads.

Apple updates (Mac/iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch) have never worked via Personal Hotspot. Silly restriction IMO. Especially now that cellular iPhones & iPads can update over cellular… Celluar Apple Watch still requires Wi-Fi though.

Thanks for confirming. This is strange indeed and Apple could have at least given us a choice, just as they did for using cellular data for music, photos, backups, etc.
