Didn’t have any battery issue until updating to 17.0.3 where my battery took a nose dive. With 17.1, I’m seeing the same great battery life I was prior to that. Happy again with how much time I’m getting with a day’s charge!

Yes that day mostly WiFi.

Today has been mostly mobile data.
That’s actually quite good battery life for a mobile data. I still used to have better battery life on iOS 16 than you have right now but here’s my on iOS 17

And that’s half a day on lte and half a day on WiFi. If I’m outside and only connected to mobile data I get like 5h SOT max from a full charge lol
Oh and I have 13 Pro Max

What is your battery health and are you on 17.1RC? I am and it’s been the best so far, as you’d like to expect for a release candidate…

It's at 94%. It actually went down only by 1% after updating to iOS 17 so battery health is not at fault.
And yes, I'm on 17.1 RC. I actually started to have battery life problems after updating to 17.0 beta 7. Beta 6 was performing a lot better, similar to iOS 16, maybe 1h SOT less than I used to get.

I had terrible battery life after upgrading to iOS 17, but I think I fixed it. With iOS 16, the battery life of my iPhone 14 was excellent: I'd charge it, then keep it off the charger for over 24 hours, and I'd still have 50% battery. That changed with iOS 17. Suddenly I was losing 25% of battery during the night (7-8 hours), even though I wasn't using the device at all. Curiously during the day while I was using apps, the decline was also about 25-30% every 8 hours. With iOS 16, I don't think I was losing more than 10-15% over the same period. The system didn't show any app using excessive amount of battery. It was clear some hidden system process was causing the drain, not a user facing app.

I thought it would fix itself a couple of days after the upgrade but it didn't. iOS 17.1 public beta 1 and 2 didn't improve anything so I decided to reset the device. It is a painful process, but the battery got so bad that I didn't know what else to do. I restored from an iCloud backup. And I'm happy to report that 24 hours after the reset, my battery is as good as it was with iOS 16. As I'm writing this post I still have 56% of battery, even though I unplugged from the charger 24.5 hours ago.

Edit: By reset I mean "Erase All Content and Settings"
Edit 2: Added another overnight battery usage graph

View attachment 2291477
Above: iOS 17 before reset: went down to about 60% in 12 hours (9pm to 9am) of almost no use.

View attachment 2291476
Above: iOS 17 after reset, battery went down to 60% after 24 hours of normal use.

View attachment 2291719
Above: 36 hours after reset, barely any battery was used overnight
To make sure I understand right:

1) you updated your latest iCloud backup
2) selected erase all content and settings
3) set the phone up again with your latest iCloud backup via WiFi
4) done

And this fixed your battery?

This is what I’m getting first day off the charger since the morning.
Thankfully the later revision of iOS 17 took my phone back to the way the battery life was since last years launch. On average id use just over 20% of battery from the first charge for one day.

14PM iOS 17.0.3

I randomly started having 3 hours of background usage in messages when I've never had it before...really strange.

Seems to just have been a random occurrence.

Appreciate your daily update . Thanks for that. Just wondering how does YouTubers get 12h screen time….

I actually think the youtubers getting 12h screen time do so in a row. Carrying your iPhone around all day, switching cell towers, the screen powering on in daylight going to max brightness, all that stuff uses way more battery than we think.

If you one of those "youtuber tests" in your home, the iPhone sitting on a desk, on wifi, you will also get 12 hours. That's just not a realistic use case.

Obviously the iPhone 15 pro max
Needs a larger battery as all the bells and whistles drain the battery quickly
