Respectfully, without getting the tired "you shouldn't install betas on your main device" answer, is Beta 1 stable enough to install on the iPhone? It's rather easy to get the beta.

Thinking about running iOS 17 on my daily phone, trying to not let my intrusive thoughts get the best of me 🙄

It's gone on my daily and to be honest, still feels like I’m on iOS 16.

All my banking apps work so I’m happy to suffer any small bugs along the way like usual.

One thing though, betas 2 and 3 can take a turn for the worst, so just keep that in mind. 👍🏼

Hello everybody.
Have you noticed when switching from IOS 16 to IOS 17, a loss of several tens of GB of your storage space on your iphone? On my iphone I lost nearly 30 GB. On my two ipads same problem, and I have a friend who noticed the same thing.

Completely normal behavior. Apple does lots of logging and other diagnostics during the summer betas. The extra analytical software and the logs they generate are what you are seeing.

Maybe i misspoke… i mean in the next iOS17 releases, and it can be in the next betas, right.

We’re likely to see a fair number of “new” things in the upcoming betas (probably through beta 3 or so).

Journal app will come later, it is also stated on their website.

My guess is that we’ll see the Journal app in 17.2 in November/December, much the same way FreeForm was introduced. That means beta testers should see it around the end of October.

Please post about apps that work or don’t work in the thread dedicated to that.

The beta seems solid but there will always be outlier cases where someone has a bad (and sometimes very bad) experience. That may or may not be you.

It will also depend on your own tolerance and needs. If you drive for a living, having the GPS stop working on Maps (to use an experience I had in iOS 13) could be a deal killer for you but was not for me. One never knows where these big problems pop up.

Finally, the betas are not always linear in terms of stability. Many years the stability goes down after beta 1 and does not really return until beta 6 or so (mid to late August).

Bottom line: save an archived backup of your current setup and know how to get back to 16.5 (or the 16.6 beta if that’s where you are now) before you install iOS 17 and you should be fine.

No, it works with a wire, too. But you have to hold the phone very still.
It's very temperamental.

Lying flat on my desk, on a MagSafe charger, it barely activates and seems to keep reverting back to the usual Always On display. Is it only meant for use with stands then?

I forgot to mention too. Last night, was unable to accept (or even decline I guess) meetings on my exchange account through the mail app. The meeting opened up and actually looked nice on the calendar on the mail app, but no buttons to accept/decline.

I went into the Outlook app and it worked fine.

I just noticed I also have the bug where I could download iOS 17 as a public beta tester. It’s funny though, after how buggy and unreliable iOS 16 has been for almost a year and how there aren’t a lot of new features in iOS 17 and most of them are more social features (which require your contacts to have iOS 17), I have no urge to upgrade until the release candidate in September.

Thank you for the non-preaching answer. Appreciated.

I am in the process of installing it knowing the risks.

If things go bad, I can simply erase the phone and restore it from an iOS 16 backup. Correct?

If you have one on your Mac then yes, because iCloud makes a fresh copy every night, so it would be with the new system, so you cannot return in that way.

No option on phone to automatically roll back, but yes you can restore via previous mac back up as above
