What new dynamic island interactions have people noticed? So far I’ve seen the alarm clock use it, unlocking my Apple Watch and also if you disable mobile data the error message now uses the dynamic island.
Only Alarm is new. Had the other 2 already on iOS 16.

IOS 17 on Iphone 12:

Bugs--
-Texting can be brutal at times. Text box randomly disappears. Sometimes I can't attach photos if the photo is chosen before creating a text. One some contacts the text conversation tries to "scroll up" then settles at the 2nd touch of the screen.

-Battery life has been worse than IOS 16. I'm used to getting to 8PM with 70%+ battery, not I'm around 50%.

-Apple music. If I have marginal WiFi and cell it simply stops playing unless I use cellular.

-Cell reception appears to be worse. There are parts near me that used to get enough to listen online. Now, those spots, just spins.

I guess I'll have to wait for the next beta to resolve this mess.

when i receive a call , i don't see the voicemail button.
example, when some calls I see 3 options 1. slide to answer 2. remind me 3. message
when I checked a friends phone with iOS 17 beta, voicemail button is show on the calling screen.
Do you have live voicemail turned on? Settings > Phone > Live Voicemail

I'm not a 100% sure if the button is part of the live voicemail feature, but worth a shot.

So my camera stopped working, it only showed black screen and then i restarted my phone and then it gave me error of non genuine part where as my phone has never been opened and is under AppleCare+. Anyone else seeing this?
Update:

My phone was replaced by Apple as it had Camera issue. Thanks AppleCare+ they sent me a new one overnight.

It's interesting how much of a small update iOS 17 appears to be. It seems like a lot of the features are small quality of life improvements that you'll only use occasionally (iMessage search, Offline Maps) or that require others to have iOS 17 (NameDrop, Check In) or all of your Apple devices to be upgraded (improved AirPods switching). The only differences I'm actually noticing in my day-to-day usage from iOS 16 are some aesthetic differences (Messages, Music, Podcasts, phone call screen), some more functionality in the Weather app, and some battery drain. Standby seems awesome, but I haven't had a use for it since I put my phone on its charging mount when my phone is already in Sleep mode.

I’ve been noticing a number of times that charging has paused because of heat. After a few days of watching this, it appears to only occur when I have standby turned on. Perhaps standby still needs some tweaking re power useage.

In Sleep mode you can still see Standby. Just point your hand at or wave at it, and it will light up briefly.

If you have been following along with my beta testing, you probably have seen the picture of this on my phone. It happened on all of the iOS 16 beta builds and just now it happened on iOS 17. I have decided that the opinion that it is hardware is correct. So I will be taking a trip to the Apple Store.

It’s strange that some of the bigger bugs I’m seeing are ones I remember from older versions’ beta testing.

The big one is the Messages bug where the bottom of the conversation gets stuck beneath the keyboard and it doesn’t allow you to scroll down. Exiting the conversation and going back in resolves this.

The second one, which admittedly I’ve only experienced once as of yet, is getting rocketed to the top of the screen when trying to type in a text box like here on MacRumors. Reloading the page resolved that for me.

Having an extra iPhone for playing around with beta is fun.

Beta on a primary iPhone is a no-no.

Just saying....

I’ve used my daily driver for years and have never had a catastrophic bug that required any sort of extreme action (restore, reset, DFU, etc). Sure, it can happen but that’s the chance you take.

How about the keyboard/autocorrect improvements? I’ve been pretty impressed.

I’m also seeing those old bugs.

Ive updated my 2 IPads, my iPhone 12Pro and my watch but unfortunately my MacBook Air is too old to run the new Xcode 15 Beta so I don’t know how to update the firmware on my AirPods. Is there a workaround or alternative way? Can I go into the Apple Store for a beta firmware update? Any other way to get what I need on my iPhone or iPads?

I’m sorry if this has been covered, I’ve searched and didn't see an answer to this question…….thanks in advance.

This is probably just a me thing, but I really haven’t noticed so far. The only instance I can think of is I saw a prediction for two words I was going to type out once which I hadn’t seen before.

I notice it most in the actual autocorrect sense. The spelling and grammatical suggestions are always spot on for me. The new text select highlighter is also fantastic. Gone are the days of the frustration of not being able to place the grabbies where you want.

I also really dig the new lighter look of the keyboard. Can’t put my finger on what exactly has changed but it’s nice.

Lovely usage of the dynamic island:

Can you swipe it away without declining it and then reopen it from the Dynamic Island?

Although it is not trivial, it is simple enough to restore from a back up that it’s really no huge issue if something goes very wrong, unless it results in destruction of data somehow, which is not impossible but probably pretty rare.

As I’ve noted in some other posts, I am not seeing a massive improvement (or really any improvement) in the swipe keyboard correction algorithms. They remain very very bad on my device. I've speculated that this may be some sort of A/B test and that perhaps I do not have the updated algorithm yet on my device. I hope that is the case.

It’s been a few years but I did lose a couple years’ worth of Fitness data while going backward from a beta to a release version. It’s really hard to do it nowadays though. People around here are very clear about proper backups and methods of reverting.

Regarding the keyboard, I don’t use swipe a lot but when I do, it’s been pretty good. I prefer the tap method and for that, it’s been spot on for me. I wish I could suggest something but as you said, A/B variability is a thing.

Not to put too fine a point on it, there’s really no reason anyone should lose any data if they are careful. Lots of resources available. The problem is people who jump into the betas headlong without doing what they need to do to prepare.

But even those are not as big a deal as before, since so much is backed to to the cloud now.

Looks like the weather app’s crappy radar has lost the ability to predict out more than 12 hours. Under iOS 16, you could get a couple of days worth of “future radar” by zooming out to a continental level. Just tried that and it will only give me 12 hours’ worth.
