Is that so? I actually tried downgrading 17 to 16 with iTunes myself a few weeks ago and it didn't work. iTunes doesn't really handle iOS 17 yet.
Oh, ok, maybe for iOS17. Maybe iTunes need an update to support this.
But for sure, installing from ipsw is supported within iTunes in iOS16!

Yep that's how it usually is, iTunes and macOS are updated to support the new iOS for the final release September. From June until then the new x.0 beta is unsupported.

Just as an FYI - don't unpair and restore your Apple Watch on WatchOS 10 with an iPhone running iOS 17. None of the first party apps reinstall.

Is Instagram messed up for anyone else? Could just be an issue on their end, but since downloading Beta 3 Instagram doesn’t seem to be loading correctly.

EDIT: disregard. Instagram is back to working as normal.
I reinstalled instagram and it was back to normal, but an hour later the problem returned

I would really love to know why some peoples System Data is approximately 6GBs (under 10) and others are 20-40GBs. Regularly, not just after an update. I’ve been monitoring this for a few years since it started and it’s all over the map. Personally I’ve tried literally everything to get mine down but regardless of which phone/OS I have or what I do, I’m in the 25-39GB camp.
Mine is looking like this.

Has anyone been having issues with duplicate notifications? It doesn’t happen every time, but occasionally I’ll get two of the same notification one right after the other.

Way better than 2 for me. Doubt I’ll ever get the insane pre-iOS 16 battery life on iPhone 13 again, but beta 3 is an improvement even over all iOS 16 versions I’ve been on.

Slightly off-topic: This is my first ever iPhone, is this normal? Do they all tend to tank in battery life suddenly after their first major update, or is it just iOS 16 that was a lemon and I’ll have to wait it out for when 17 (hopefully) fixes the battery? 🫤 Was thinking maybe I should do a DFU restore and start fresh.

On your question as to whether the battery life you are seeing is normal: remember, these betas are not a software update. They’re a beta. And Apple is testing things that tax the battery. And it may be calibrating the battery optimization itself. So you should not consider what you’re seeing now as being representative of what the battery will be like for a non-beta user once iOS 17 is deployed publicly at the end of September.

Totally get that, it was more so that even the stable non-beta builds of iOS 16 never gave me more than half the battery life I was getting on iOS 15 with this iPhone, even though battery health was at 97%. So I’m quite happy with whatever improvement on that front and beta 3 has been better indeed, but still mad that this happens. This battery used to last into the second day with ease.

Had that bug in Watch OS 9 and iOS 16 as well, had to wipe the watch and restore it again. I did unpair my ultra watch on 10 B2 and iOS 17 B2 and it unpaired and restored flawlessly, not tried B3 so could be buggy in that version.

iOS 17 B3 apple maps runs a bit poorly, seems to be running at what feels like 30fps. Other than that I'm very happy with B3 so far.

20 hours in after updating from iOS 16 and not noticing any huge issues here on my 14 Pro Max.
- battery is just okay compared to 16 (no health % decrease after installing the beta)
- slight annoyance from the fitness and sleep widgets constantly go back to blank
- no jitters in Maps
- no keyboard issues in Messages
- I did notice while outside in the sun earlier that the phone didn’t handle the heat as well as it did with iOS 16 but it was manageable

I'm not sure when it happened (this beta? last beta?) but recently the "Private Wi-Fi Address" option was turned on for my home network which I had previously disabled. This caused issues with the way I allocate IP addresses. A simple toggle has turned it back off.

(This option is badly named and in fact turns on a feature that randomises your MAC address.)

Edit: I was having problems with my Sony TV that was refusing to connect properly to my WiFi which is when I noticed the problem as I started looking at what my router was doing. For some reason, my iPhone having a made-up MAC address caused the issue. I can only assume that the invalid mac address was doing something odd to my router.

And just like that, I think you helped solve several of my Home app issues from the past 2 beta builds. 👍🏾
