A solution to the stuttering when closing apps and swiping between home screens: change your Home Screen wallpaper to something that’s smaller in size such as a bland color through the color picker. Night and day difference for me.

Isn’t there a thread dedicated to all this IPSW stuff? I thought Pearsey created one?

If the battery thread is anything to go by, not much point in creating one. Everyone just seems to chat on here regardless. 🙄

Plus, can you imagine the hassle I’d get if it didn’t work, which it does, because they knocked a cable whilst installing and it bricked their phone, or they installed the wrong IPSW file. It would end up a 24/7 hot line ☎️ 😆😂

“Good morning, IPSW International, you’re speaking to the Pear5ey, the creator, genius some even say iPhone Marvel or legend, how can I help?”

“Oh hi it’s Adrian London here from MacRumors”

“Who?”

“You know, purple octopus man”

Phone hangs up

I have some strange bugs that have popped up with beta 4

1. The calls suddenly go silent and I have to end the call and reinitiate the call. Has this happened with anyone else?
2. Wireless carplay gets choppy all of a sudden
3. itunes backup is greyed out.

Am I doing something wrong because I had both of my ISPW reinstalls on betas 3 and 4 go wrong and had to wipe phone then restore from iCloud backup? I start the ISPW reinstall, and then it goes wrong and iPhone shows connect to computer screen.
You on Mac or Windows? Process won’t work thru iTunes on a windows machine.

And with all the options of chargers, car chargers, and battery packs not to mention quick charge feature why would it need to last 24hr anyway? Surely one can find a means and few moments in a 24 hr period to get a bit of a charge if needed. Just my 2 cents.
The issue is not just that of inconvenience but also the additional wear on the battery due to heat when the phone is charging. Because the battery doesn’t last as long, the phone spends more time on the charger which wears down the battery more. The faster the charger, the higher the wear. Even MagSafe battery packs seems to be causing more heat. Even beyond a beta, the battery wear on my 14PM with both iOS 16 and now 17 has been the worse of any iPhone in recent years. I’m sitting at 93% health whereas last year at this time I was 4-5% higher.

Yeah I’m glad I’m off the beta train. Will wait for official release in September given all the beta 4 impressions. Yikes.

I hear ya :) I beta tested every other year but don’t remember it being so issue-ridden. Kinda reminds you of how well the final releases work.

It’s hilarious how people base their decision on this forum. “Issue-ridden”? Compared to what? This is one of the best beta cycles I can remember and I’ve been doing this a long time.

#2 is likely related to Bluetooth rather than CarPlay as my 14PM has been disconnecting randomly while I drive and I’ve not been blessed by wireless CarPlay just yet. Even when I’m not listening to music through the device, I’m still getting repeated Maps notifications as it disconnects and connects back up.

Automatic backups have failed since installing B4. Manual fails as well.

Advanced Data Protection and Private Relay are off as well.

I’ll DM you. Save everyone from the repetitiveness.

I think you need to down load the new mobiledevic.pkg so your finder syncs with the iPhone.
where can i find this file? it doesn't download automatically on mac((

The only explanation I can find for why some folks are having tons of issues while others aren't, is that different devices must have different firmware or updates/files as opposed to other devices. Trying to find how many iPhones (not even iPads!) are currently supported, including the "regular" and "Max" sized phones, I'm counting 30 different phones models?

It's going to be weeks still until all of these devices get shored up and are on the same playing field. Someone with an iPhone 14 Pro Max (like me) might LOVE beta 4 because it runs great, while someone on an iPhone XS Max might have tons of problems...

I have a version of #1. Calls on my AirPods Pro seem to suddenly go silent, but it turns out all sound for the call has suddenly switched to my phone. Has happened several times.

I'm not able to do an IPSW restore as it says
You need a software update
and then results in this error

"Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."

I have the beta switched on my iOS 16 phone for the IOS 17 public beta.

Any tips?
I've run into the same issue, while trying to update from iOS 16 to the 17 on the Ventura. For some reason, the install process was looking for an update on MacOS, so I switched to MacOS Sodoma (I have separate partition for it) and then the IPSW install process worked without issues.

I don't understand the frustration with beta bugs, unless there is something which is really unexpected. So many comments shouting about how the betas are bad and worse and I have seen very few with report ID or at least attempts to troubleshoot, fix it etc. It's like these people are expecting beta versions to pass their expectations with flying colours. It will never be like that otherwise this forum thread will be pointless.

Me personally have after installing iOS 17 two hard days when my battery was juiced by iOS indexing background tasks, phone was hot so I could boil water on and all it takes was to open weather app. After two days everything settled down and I am experiencing only minor bugs and glitches from time to time.

So really, think twice before you jump into beta train if your expectations aren't too high.

Peace
