I’ve been trying to download the IPSW for iPadOS beta 8 for my iPad Pro 10.5. But when I click on it, it takes me to a page that goes nowhere. “Access denied”. I don’t think the beta is loaded into their system for whatever reason. Would someone mind checking on the Apple developer software downloads page for me to see if they see the same thing? Thanks in advance.
Same. The link points to an XML file, not the IPSW. This has happened in the past. Seems like either they forgot to post the file or the link isn't pointing to the right file.

The 12 is almost three years old now. Unless you bought it later?

Give more details, otherwise your post is pointless. Surely you don’t expect a phone battery to last 4 or 5 years?
Yep
I have an iPhone 11 which I bought a month after they came out (October 2019).

I charge it nightly while the phone is off (so optimised charging doesn't work) with a 5W charger. Currently at 81%.
Have launch day XR (2018), original battery. Charge every night ALL night until I wake no matter what percentage its on and just started using optimized charging whenever it was released. And I use it every day so not just put on a shelf somewhere. Still showing 85% health!

Thats normal, also , if you want to keep health on battery dont charge it nightly, charge when it hits 10%-20% and stop at 80%90%.

Also, newer phones like 13, battery will have good health for longer as the batteries last longer, lasting longer means less charging cycles, which means it keeps the health for longer. Even so, I expect my 13 pro to hit 85% after 4 years. Thats would be good, I would replace it in the 5th year when it hits below 80%, but I doubt I would not upgrade by then.
Also, battery replacements are not expensive, its 99euros, thats quite good if you change each 4 to 5 years.
An iphone 13 pro battery at 80% will probably last longer than an iphone xs at 100% anyway, so no need to stress about batteries these days.

It’s not just mine. It’s a widespread issue… there are a few threads about it in the iPhone forum and a few publications have written about it.
I think I'll keep the 13 pro until there is a significant upgrade, I only upgraded to the 13 pro because of the 120hz and the better battery, it really makes a difference. Or else my old xs would have been fine for a few more years. I miss the 3d touch.
I cant see what tech they can invent on phones to make me upgrade, I would upgrade if the glass was way stronger, then again I have used my 13 pro since launch and never used a case, I hate cases, I have never broken a screen yet.

Anyone noticing Homekit can't tell that you're home?

I have a notification set to go off for a motion sensor, but it's set to only go off if I'm not home. It's so I can tell when my cat is active and walking around.

However I'm home yet am setting it off constantly since the update. I'm about to turn it off because of how annoying it is.

This beta feels pretty smooth, I'd even say better than the previous one, I'm actually surprised.

But I'm still having problems with:
- keyboard that lags a lot, it's really annoying If you type a lot,
- battery life is STILL pathetic, nothing changed from the previous beta. Right now I'm literally recharging my phone for the THIRD TIME to at least 50% because it drains battery so fast. I have never had such a bad battery life with my 13 Pro Max. It feels like my old iPhone X that was on iOS 14 with 80% battery health. And no, I don't think that's a 3rd party app problem since beta 6 was doing perfectly fine, obviously not iOS 16.6 level but a lot better than what I'm having since beta 7,
- 3rd party apps are still taking more space than on iOS 16,
- Safari still stutters when swiping up to see all of the open tabs.
I havent used touch type for many years now, I was already using swipe on android years ago, and when I switched to iphones I continued with swipe, its way faster especially if typing one handed, I can even type without ever looking at the keyboard. For people switching to swipe type, give it type and once you adapt to it, you'll be flying. I type faster on the phone than on a computer keyboard.

This makes me think Standby Mode isn't going to be good for battery longevity. I'm probably not going to use it.

I charge my 11 Pro Max if it's under 50% when I go to bed. Sometimes this means I charge every other day if my usage isn't too heavy. Occasionally I have to charge the next evening, but that's not a big deal.

I think that's a big reason my battery is still so good on a nearly four year old, launch-day phone.

It should be in better health yes, and the recent betas seem to have affected it.

another example of gimping features that are otherwise would be very useful.
for context, I use alphanumeric passcode to lock my iPad.

Happy with the performance of my 11 Pro Max on this 17 beta. Glad I waited longer this time to install the beta unlike the early 16 betas last year, which were awful.

First full day with iOS 17 so will see how the battery holds up, the health is 81%. Planning on getting a battery service once it goes below 80.

I find it annoying that they have moved the photo edit buttons to the top of the screen! Using the reachability feature will help, but still annoying lol

Your iphone 14 is already on 92%, my launch day iphone 13 pro is on 93%. Weird
My day one iP14P is at 89%

In my case, I'm eager for the upgrade every year (using iP Upgrade Pgm via Apple, makes no sense NOT to upgrade very year) - before Apple announces in Sept, I've already been ready since 2007 to hand over my digits every year (ok, I did skip the 5S) =)

I can't be bothered. I plug the phone in and turn it off every night, then unplug it and turn it back on every morning.

My phone easily lasts a day; so whatever the battery % is, as long as it lasts the day I'm good. I wasn't complaining about it being 81% after 4 years, I just wanted to join in the conversation and post my battery health :D

At some point, maybe with the iPhone 15 but more likely the 16, I'll upgrade the 11 and it'll become my backup phone (replacing my 6S). The original battery will have made it to the end!

Yes some of our devices, WiFi smart plugs, do not seem to know when someone is home all of the time. Just picks a random person arriving home to decide when to turn on.

Anyone having issues with Messages not properly indexing? It seems that when I use the new search and search links, it doesn’t give me all the Message results that I have gotten before iOS 17 beta 7 and 8.

For people switching to swipe type, give it type and once you adapt to it, you'll be flying. I type faster on the phone than on a computer keyboard.

I also use this but my experience has not been as good. The swipe keyboard constantly makes errors.

I am now actually beginning to wonder if some (but not all) of the problem is because I am using poor technique when using glidepath (the name for this feature).

Regardless, I have already had to correct 4 words in this post (“y” to “my”; “keypad” to “keyboard”; “not” to “now”; and “our” to “poor”). Having to stop and make these corrections really cuts into any speed gains.

As you can see many of the errors involve words with letters adjacent to the ones I believe I am swiping to. But, as in an error that just occurred (“sweeping” rather than the intended “swiping”) there seemingly is no way to avoid this: to get to the first “i” in “swiping” from the previous letter “w”, I have to traverse the letter “e”. Compounding the problem is that the next letter after “i” is “p”. So, without using context, the keyboard has no way of knowing which word I intended as all of the letters of both “swiping” and “sweeping” are crossed in the pattern. But that is where the algorithm improvements are supposed to help. It seems to me that “swiping”, when referring to letters, should come up higher in the algorithmic probability tables than should “sweeping”.

That’s what has me frustrated.

The menu bar at the top still disappears while in safari every now and then. Going home and then opening Safari or switching to another app and coming back always fixes it.

Disagree. The iPhone 12 was introduced nearly 3 years ago. Even if you bought it months later, you’ve had it for somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 days. Even assuming you only charge every 2-2.5 days (which seems unlikely, at least for most users, who must charge daily) you should have gone through at least 400 to 500 charge cycles. Apple says that these batteries should be at about 80% of remaining life after 500 charge cycles (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208387).

Participating in betas (which I assume you do as you are in this forum) probably takes even more of a toll on the battery than normal usage.

It appears all me that you are right about where you should be in your phone’s lifecycle.
