On the iPhone it says the same and location looks the same though it is mid scroll on mine.
My iPad just says People & Pets.

Overnight nothing happened. Album on both still empty. Think I am missing something, maybe a setting.

Tried one more time last eve/night and nada.
Places does well but the People & Pets stubbornly remains empty.

Update: If I open one of the pics with my pup in it and tap on her, I get info identifying her as a Shiba Inu and provides a link for more info. Yet the Pets / People isn't apparently working for me.

Putting this on my "maybe someday" list.
Moving on.

Next item ... or two ;)

Predictive text.
This has only become an issue with RC. I have predictive turned on and find when typing a Note or Message, there are times the spacebar will "complete" a word instead of putting in a space. Ex: typed "comp" as part of "comp time" and found that I had "compare time". It is happening frequently.

Camera - Photo
Saw a mention in Reddit on the improvement to photo processing. So I whipped out the 13PM and took a few shots from about 10 feet of my Shiba. Comparing to older photos there appears to be an improvement especially on the texture of her fur. Still it pales in comparison to my S23 Ultra. Nice to see improvements.

more as time allows...

Yeah, I was afraid that that first bug/feature could happen accidentally when using the spacebar.

Is there a way to get standby mode to actually stay on? It's not very useful the way it is because it goes out after a few seconds. I was really looking forward to this too.

This is on an 11 Pro Max.

Needs an Always-on-Display. I believe that means iPhone 14 & 15 pro models only. As you say, it's not much use without that, so after playing with it for a bit I doubt I'll be using it much (iPhone 11)

That's pretty lame; I mean the phone is plugged in? There's no need to be power efficient.

It really smells like Apple is using this to sell newer iPhones. I was already going to upgrade this year so this will then be solved soon but it feels slimy.

It’s mirroring the functionality of the Apple Watch nightstand mode, it doesn’t stay on all the time either. Honestly, Standby works great with the bedtime alarm feature. Kicks right in just like the watch does.

But as a desk display it’s not great since it shuts off. Totally agree there.
Standby does not require AOD. All phones will timeout after a bit but will activate with motion or touch (even touching the stand) Works fine even with old XR. So apparently it works the same for everyone.

So surely that’s an app update not iOS.

Once the official release is out I’m sure all these will be addressed.
Hey Pearsey, not to sound rude or something but what does make you feel that app updates will suddenly and magically fix battery drain that has been happening SINCE beta 7?

How is that beta 6 (that had the same apps built on iOS 16 SKD) was performing better than beta 7/8/RC? Fun fact, developers are already updating apps for iOS 17 and nothing has changed. At least for me.

At first it was - "wait till RC" and now it's "wait till developers start updating apps to iOS 17 SDK". Yes, apps have huge impact on battery performance but that's actually not the case this time. It's the iOS 17 itself. It's something Apple is doing since beta 7. App updates might help a little but they won't fix the battery performance that for some people (and also for myself) went down from getting 10h+ SOT to literally 6 or less.

There's even a YouTuber iApplebytes that tests battery life with every(?) iOS versions and you can see that 17 RC is one of the worst iOS versions in terms of battery life ever. And it's a lot worse than even beta 1 of iOS 17.

If Apple doesn't fix it fast enough, people will be pressed after updating to it because right now it might be 3 out of 10 people that have battery drain issues but as soon as they release it to the public, it'll be A LOT more.

In iOS 17.0 RC, unable to add a contact from inside WhatsApp by clicking a contacts card received in a conversation.
Error message "Whatsapp doesn't have access to your contacts", upon opening the contacts card received in WhatsApp and clicking "Add to Existing Contact" in WhatsApp.
This error did not occur in iOS 16.6.1 and earlier.
For me, I can easily add a new contact or add it to an existing one

I can’t answer any of that really. Just say that whilst you’re on a beta and apps are not on the right SDK, everything is not performing properly.

So the time to see if your phone needs a good restore or other steps to be taken, you can’t be definitive until the official build and all your apps are running iOS 17 SDK to absolutely be sure your phones running the best it can.

I do LOVE the new tones, but honestly.. for years my iPhone has been on mute

Others do tho, and they have some cool ones to choose from! I wish I could get the iPhone to only use tones when I want them in much more fine-tuned way. Until then, my iPhone must remain muted.. ugh, and I played those tones for others so proud of 'em =)))

Same. But it’s time for a change and I’ve let some tunes free for iMessage and email.

Really nice actually. Nobody seems to notice and I subconsciously pick up on the tone to reach for my phone.

Dark Noise joins PCalc as one of the first iOS 17 apps. Great additions with interactive widgets.

Now waiting on Timery. I suspect we’ll see that today too.

Battery life is still trash. Actually, the RC might be worse than the last two betas.

Classic example of an update and why we need to wait till our apps ALL have caught up to iOS 17 SDK.

Any app NOT working correctly under the hood, probably, is a drain on the battery.

But what about all the apps one may have that may never be rebuilt on the new SDK? I am sure not every app in the app store gets updated to the newest SDK immediately or heck maybe ever. While I get they get better optimized and some even fixed so they will work at all with the new iOS. Older apps still typically work ok through the various versions of iOS without catastrophic results.

I believe my initial battery issue was Apples own mail app running on in the background. After turning off all accts and a reboot, then re-enabling them it seems to have stopped the background running away. Point being even a iOS17 SDK app that is Apples own caused issues in this case.

Storage woes continue.... Seems like apps are caching more & more data (probably images) these days... social media & news/info apps are the worst, often having a couple gigs worth of "documents & data"

What app on your phone wouldn’t want to update to iOS 17 SDK? And if an app doesn’t do updates much and has lazy development, you got to ask yourself is it really worth having it on your phone potentially causing issues.

Surely, surely Apple makes it super easy to update to the new kit? Just like we update a whole operating system at a click of a button. That just seems like common sense to me.
