This could be a useful feature.

💬 iMessage see if someone hasn’t saved your number

Why should you have any visibility into the fact that someone has not saved your number? This would be a privacy leak of what that person did or didn't do with your data. I would hope that Apple never adds this feature.

Now these are how you design icons, hopefully Apple drops the sfugly flat icons and brings back the extremely sexy skeuomorphic icons.

I’d like for them to actually improve some of their already existing apps besides adding more sharing or Memoji features.

Photo App: I wish you could see, which photos have already been sorted into albums. It’s a mess if you do not take care of your camera roll at least once a month. On android it shows me a little star in the corner and I know right away

Maybe also show which album a photo is part of in the photo details?

Focus Mode: let me share my actual status! There is a difference between „sleeping“ and „in a meeting“. Opt-In of course

Messages: a DELETE ALL button to FINALLY be able to delete all message attachments (photos) at once without literally tapping on each photo one by one

Auto reply for Messages

Control Center: how about prioritizing lights, which are actually on and not showing me random lights? What is the point of those quick access buttons, if it doesn’t show me the correct lights, to easily turn them off?

Video player in Safari: move the volume slider a little further down in landscape. Every time I try to swipe, it opens the control center by mistake because the touch area is too close together

App Icons: finally implement the macOS icons on iOS

Homescreen: don’t know how but it needs an update so you can rearrange stuff without destroying your whole app / widget layout

There is a lot more I can’t think of right now 😅

Generally it’s sad how developers seem to care less and less about implementing certain things. I have yet to run into a website, which supports mobile web push notifications. MacRumors, I am looking at you!

Some of my hopes for iOS and iPadOS 17:

  • The macOS neumorphic app icons come to iOS and iPadOS.
  • Better app icon customization.
  • Control Center redesigned with WiFi network more surface accessible for switching (at least on iPadOS Control Center). Also, all new Control Center Apps, which give quick access to toggles within apps that use them. These would be similar in functionality to MacOS Menu Bar Apps, but would be available now on iOS and iPadOS. Perhaps they could even be implemented similarly to WatchOS apps…?
  • iPadOS 17 Airplay Receiver. This allows us to cast content from our iPhones to our larger iPad displays.
  • Customizable Lockscreen on iPadOS 17.
  • Redesigned Notification Center for iPadOS 17.
  • Stage Manager refinements for iPadOS 17. New “clamshell mode” allows the iPad’s display to be put to sleep while the connected monitor still functions.
  • Improvements to the Files app. More features from Finder. Photos app as a Location in Files.
  • Disc Utility for iPadOS 17. This allows users to format external drives with their iPad. (This is probably a really tall order, and I’m not holding my breath).
  • External webcam support in iPadOS 17. (I believe this may already possible with DriverKit).
  • App Sideloading world-wide. If Apple has to do it, they might as well just get it done and over with, implement a Gatekeeper type of system like macOS uses, and implement it everywhere. Though maybe they want to start in the EU so they can work out the bugs of the new system and test it. But I want them to implement this in a way that’s as secure as possible, so I want something like MacOS Gatekeeper to scan apps for malware. And the system should throw a fit and make it as difficult as possible to sideload apps from non-signed developers.
  • Calculator app for iPadOS 17. I don’t really care that much about it, but maybe it will decrease some of the jabs from some Android fans who seem to feel the need to compensate. 😉
  • Health and Watch app for iPadOS 17.
  • FontBook app for iOS 17 and iPadOS 17. I currently use a third party app called iFont which is fairly similar, but I love FontBook on macOS.
  • Backup to external drives for iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 as an option in addition to iCloud backups. This is currently possible by backing up to a PC, but it would be more handy to be able to backup to just a drive.
  • System-wide Share Sheet “Add to Home Screen” option and/or hold-press/right-click context menu option. Or, ability to add files and folders from the Files app to the home screen without having to use Shortcuts app.
I don’t think it would be reasonable for me to expect they implement all these things in this update, but if they do a few of the things on this list, I will be ecstatic! 👍🏻

I find these icons, along with most of the Mac icons, weirdly incoherent.

The Logic icon is decent icon. It's in the 'squircle' shape which identifies it as an app, and has a photorealistic silver record in a frame, the small J. Appleseed label is a nice touch which the keen eyed will spot when it's viewed at a larger size. Very nice.

Then you have the Final Cut icon sort of film clapper board morphed into an app squircle. It's not photo realistic at all and looks cartoonish. There's no detail in the rest of the icon just a random 'spinning beachball of death' gradient. And it also breaks the squircle shape so it sticks out like a sore thumb. Why?

This inconsistency runs in all the Mac icons. Compare something like Safari which is an abstract iOS 7-style compass symbol made 3D to Preview which has a photorealistic magnifying glass and photo. It's weird.

  • Improvements to the Files app. Eject option for ejecting external drives properly.
That is a good list and I would like to see some of those come to the iOS family. For a couple of them you may not need to wait.

On the first one, you can long press on the Wi-Fi icon in control center and then when the panel appears, long press on the Wi-Fi icon (again) to see a list of available Wi-Fi networks. To me that is more direct than using settings app.

On the second, from what I’ve read, there is no need to eject media in terms of clearing cache. As long as the write is done, it is done in iOS, there is no residual caching or open file handles the way it is done in Mac OS. You would only need eject if it was physically ejectable media like a DVD drive. I’m not sure that iPad OS can read a DVD.

Ok, I knew about the hold-press shortcut in Control Center, I guess I was meaning like in some of the concepts I’ve seen where the network name is visible at a glance in Control Center. Thank you for the tip though, I like that people share useful hints in these threads. 👍🏻🙂.

That’s really interesting about the way iPadOS handles drives. That actually makes a lot of sense. It also seems like a much more efficient way. After years of getting “disk ejected incorrectly” popups on macOS, I feel a bit worried just unplugging a drive, but it’s definitely easier and more intuitive. 👍🏻. And I guess if it harmed drives, Apple would have thought about that and included an “eject” option. 👍🏻

i would really like more "real" automation in the shortcuts app. And i want a trigger for "new notification received", to do something based on content from notifications

They registered trademarks for Apple Card and Apple Cash in Canada 2 years ago. Can they finally expand to any country that isn't the US? I understand they need to find a good financial institution in Canada for those things and Apple Cash is pretty useless due to E-Transfer but the Apple Card would be pretty sweet.

Not sure what this has to do with iOS17…but it also isn’t solely Apple’s decision since they aren’t the issuing bank.

If the leaks are true that wallet is getting a full revamp, then this could be one of the things that is announced that they have been working on in the background.

It might be something that’s announced in connection with a wallet revamp but its not tied to the operating system. Let’s restrict our speculation to stuff that directly relates to iOS 17 and not other Apple services. There are forums for those too.
