Why? I think it looks nice. 🤷🏼♂️. I mean, I think they could add an option to hide it for those who want to do so, but I just have honestly never understood why people would want to hide it. 🤷🏼♂️If there’s still a Homebar in iOS 17, war there will be.
Honestly the ‘homebar’ (not even its name) complaint feels very psyop-like there are way more things to worry about like Apple being increasingly ghetto in overall software quality, painfully-iterative hardware updates, and general miserlinessWhy? Keep praying I guessThe BoomerBar is obstructive, ugly, and goes against everything apple has ever stood for. Unnecessary clutter on their software has to go, it’s the type of thing you’d expect from Android.
I was talking about the app bar on the homescreen, that’s what I thought you were referring to. It normally disappears. 🤷🏼♂️. But sure, add an option to hide it.It looks nice?? It’s hideous, constantly blocks content especially in landscape mode, and frequently is on full brightness at night blinding us as we use our phones. I have games where it blocks buttons and other things at the bottom of the screen, and always seems to block content on safari. It would take Apple about 5 seconds to give us an option to disable it in accessibility.
Also it serves no purpose, it’s been on the iPhone since 2017! Do people really need a big huge gaudy bar on the bottom of their screen??

I have an Android tablet running the latest version of Android, and it’s pretty horrendous. For one, they only just now finally got an app dock, and its implementation looks ugly compared to iPadOS app dock IMHO. Honestly, I feel like I have to force myself to pick up the Android tablet, because it doesn’t look nearly as good cosmetically, and it lags in functionality as well. I know these things are subjective, and people have different opinions, but I just think iOS and iPadOS just look aesthetically superior compared to Android. I have nothing against Android, if it works better for someone for what they want to do with it, then that’s great, and I’d say more power to them! 👍🏻. I just don’t think aesthetics are Androids strong suit.Nah, android is not that bad to do something so dense.
I don't know what version of android you are using but everyone I have here in the house now has had an "app dock" since their sale. the "app dock" is nothing that apple invented etc. It is a feature that apple took from android and implemented it, (quite crappily, I might add) to iOS. All android versions for the past 6 or 7 years had the option to swipe (bar hides until you swipe), or the 3-button menu, again hides until needed, unlike apple's dumb all the time bar.I have an Android tablet running the latest version of Android, and it’s pretty horrendous. And P.S. I’m pretty sure my Android tablet came stock with a similar swipe bar at the bottom. But I think you can change it in settings. But apparently Android is that “dense”. Personally, I don’t think the bar is an issue, it’s a visual prompt that makes it easier for people new to iOS to intuitively learn how to get to the app switcher or the Home Screen. Apparently some apps don’t hide it, but I think that’s on them, not Apple. Generally it doesn’t block any content, and most of the time it hides, so I don’t see it as a big deal, and I certainly wouldn’t consider it the number one priority for iOS 17. But I think it would be nice if they add the option to hide it for people who want to do that. 🤷🏼♂️
Don't count on it. This has been being said since iOS 13 or something like that and it's been getting worse every year, not better. Can't believe there's only 9 more days till WWDC and the unveiling of iOS 17! Here's to hoping for a return to a more bug free iOS
I was pretty happy with iOS 14 and iOS 15 so if it’s anything like that I’ll be satisfied 🤞🏽Don't count on it. This has been being said since iOS 13 or something like that and it's been getting worse every year, not better.
I managed to avoid many of the bugs, but since my iphone 8 I have always had notification issues and missed calls.I was pretty happy with iOS 14 and iOS 15 so if it’s anything like that I’ll be satisfied 🤞🏽
Luckily for me I just have random minor visual bugs which isn’t the worst thing but just annoyingI managed to avoid many of the bugs, but since my iphone 8 I have always had notification issues and missed calls.
I’m dubious about iOS copying the app bar from Android. IOS had the app bar since 2007 when the iPhone came out and Android looked very primitive in 2007.I don't know what version of android you are using but everyone I have here in the house now has had an "app dock" since their sale. the "app dock" is nothing that apple invented etc. It is a feature that apple took from android and implemented it, (quite crappily, I might add) to iOS. I can make my android devices LOOK and FEEL exactly like iOS. Aesthetics is Androids STRONG SUIT as you make it what you want in seconds compared to HOURS to make an iPhone or iPad anything other than what everyone else's iphone and ipad are. That's the joy of android. It's not theirs it's YOURS. My iPhone is so stale now, I hate using it for anything other messaging at this point. It's BORING. My iPad 10th gen is a bit better since I got the keyboard setup for it. My 150 dollar samsung tablet, while having less specs, the screen is a little more washed out than my 800 dollar ipad, is almost as fast while doing the same tasks besides gaming and has superior functionality for other things as well. I use everything.
I guess it was just a placebo for the lack of the older iOS interface. Still I liked the comments you elicited from get rid of that Homerbar. The App Dock on Android was a new feature for Android tablets announced for Android 12L. On the Home Screen there’s been a strip of apps, but I’m talking about the App Dock you can actually have and use while an app is open. I’ve never had that on any version of Android before 12L. I'd guess part of the reason the home bar exists is to create visual symmetry with the notch while in portrait (which can be just as if not more intrusive). Apple can be very particular about design and an off toggle would "ruin" that, perhaps they'll let you hide it when the dynamic island shrinks? Also it serves no purpose, it’s been on the iPhone since 2017! That looks like the taskbar on Windows. Are you able to tap on those little icons? It’s hard to get a sense of scale from that screen capture. The App Dock on Android was a new feature for Android tablets announced for Android 12L. That's what it is. When I say app dock I mean when you swipe to the right and you have the groups of apps. APP DOCK. He is talking about something completely different. Apples "app dock" is horrendous. Stuff always moving around with no way to stop it. etc. That looks like the taskbar on Windows. Are you able to tap on those little icons? The UI element in iPadOS that is called the “App Dock”, is the bar at the bottom of the screen that you add apps to, like a taskbar. The thing you’re talking about is called the “App Library” in iPadOS. I wasn’t talking about the App Library, I was talking about the App Dock. Android only just got a version of App Dock/Taskbar with Android 12L. Personally, I think the App Library could benefit from some customization options for organizing the apps, but if you tap in the search bar, you get an alphabetized list of apps, which is the way that I use it most often. The reason the options move in the iOS App Library is because it uses smart categories. For example, when you install an app from a new category, it adds a folder for that category, which can cause things to move a bit. I have mixed feelings about this. I like that iOS can auto-sort and categorize my apps in the App Library, but I do think they should add some customization options, and/or an option to toggle off the auto-sorting feature. You prefer the way that Android does it, that’s great for you, personally I prefer iOS and iPadOS, it just feels so much more intuitive to me, and I disagree that you can make Android “feel exactly like iOS”. I have both, and no matter how hard I’ve tried, I can’t get Android to feel the same, and it lacks many of the apps that I use regularly and love on iOS and iPadOS. I rarely ever pull out my Android tablet anymore lately, and every time I do, it feels like I’m trying to force myself to use it, it’s no substitute for iOS and iPadOS in my opinion. That's what it is. When I say app dock I mean when you swipe to the right and you have the groups of apps. APP DOCK. He is talking about something completely different. Apples "app dock" is horrendous. It is kind of like the Taskbar for Windows. It’s rather small on my 7”-8” Android Tablet, so I wouldn’t say it’s as big as the App Dock on iPadOS. In my experience, the app icons on this Taskbar are like half the size they are on the Home Screen, so they definitely feel pretty small. So in my experience it can be a little cramped and less touch-friendly. Also, I don’t think there’s an option to hide it while in an app, so I think it’s always visible, which can be seen as a plus or a minus. Personally, I think iPadOS’s App Dock is superior to this Android Taskbar, but it definitely makes Android on tablets better. Also, it should be noted this is a photo I found online, it’s not a photo of my 7-8” tablet. I think this photo is like a 14” Android tablet. The notch on the one on the right looks like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra (I think that’s what it’s called, if only Samsung could call it “Samsung Tab Pro” or something?…😂). Before, the only way to switch apps was more like the iPhone, go to the App Switcher, go to Home Screen, or I think you could search. All of which never really appealed to me on a productivity device, the App Dock is just such a useful thing that I use all of the time on iPadOS, and it’s absence was definitely felt every time I tried using Android tablets afterwards. That looks like the taskbar on Windows. Are you able to tap on those little icons? It’s hard to get a sense of scale from that screen capture.
