It's a rarity. There were handful or less instances where Apple released a beta right after a holiday at least in the last 5-6 years. Now I can't speak for why Apple takes an extra day off even though they're usually 2 weeks ahead in a beta cycle but it's likely that we'd be seeing a beta on 6th instead of the 5th. But then again Apple's beta release had been out of whack the last couple years so never say never.
We could be seeing a 16.6 beta on the 5th or 6th and then 17 b3 a day after or the week after.

It’s not though. I posted 3 examples from the last 4 years alone and I found at least 2 more which I didn’t bother to mention because I thought the evidence presented would suffice. Given the ever increasing number of point releases for each iteration of iOS it’s statistically likely to become even more common in the future.

You spoke in absolute terms. You said there’s always a day in between a holiday and a release which clearly isn’t true. All I’m suggesting is that having an less rigid world view might be more beneficial when discussing a subject for which none of us can truly know the answer

So many betas/holidays in the last 4 years and you could only find a handful of instances which are more like anomalies than a pattern.
I go with the odds and it’s a speculation thread and I’m speculating. It’s not the end of the world if I miss.

Judging by local weather conditions with temps almost 3 digits Fahrenheit yesterday in Cupertino. Not very many are going to be rushing to work after the July 4th after multiple hot days of guzzling beer. Today 9AM it is already 77 degree F, hardly any cars on the road, people trying to enjoy the day before stuck inside again. So the day after the 4th, the odds are not favoring that at all. ;)

You simultaneously missed and made my point.

Note Mark Gurman has suggested in todays newsletter that the company’s Wearables, Home and Accessories category will outpace both the iPad and Mac in sales growth, so expect to see more of those delayed features related to future AirPod Pro features involving hearing health and body-temperature.

Now, Apple is preparing to give the earbuds a fresh boost. It’s exploring major new hearing health and body-temperature features, and is planning cheaper models and a transition to USB-C charging ports. The product also will have ties to the Vision Pro headset due next year. The capabilities will come in addition to already-announced software features that were part of iOS 17, as well as plans for new AirPods Pro and Max model
So there are more features coming for iOS 17 not yet announced. I think its reasonably safe to say this years iOS 17 evolution will have many beta cycle increments.

15.6 beta 4 dropped last July 5th.

There is nothing special about the day after a holiday. There have been others, here’s a couple more:

15.4 Beta 4 released February 22 2022, the day after Presidents Day

12.1.3 Released January 22 2019 the day after MLK day.

Could be these days aren’t observed by Apple, but it shows that it can’t just be said Apple doesn’t release after a holiday

The ‘rules’ for x.0 betas are different to x.x betas. That makes your examples pretty irrelevant.

I’m going to go with Wednesday. Apple always knows when things will be released ahead of time. Whatever build we see this week has been done and ready for us already. Doesn’t have to be a day later because a holiday is on a Tuesday…

I’m going to postulate that there is even a 10-20% chance we see the next beta today. The little zero day thing with the X.x.1 releases a few weeks ago probably set Apple back by a day or so. And with the 4th falling on a Tuesday, that causes them to lose yet another day this week (at a minimum).

Good morning!

Happy Pre-4th of July. I don't think we are getting anything today.

I'm going to raise the stakes! I have a feeling we are getting iOS 17 Beta 3 on Thursday - 90% sure. Learning towards Wednesday only 10%. Regardless of the outcome, we are getting a new beta. I hope everyone is going to have a great week. Let's get it! 🔥

Slim to none that it’ll be today.
There was a beta or a public release a few years ago that they released right before a holiday and it turned out to be a mess with devices unable to connect to cellular or something. So it makes sense to release it after a holiday.

Good morning my dear friend. I hope you are right, but I also hope that our family at Apple is being given an important time off with the holiday in this week. If I don’t get to tell you, I hope that you have a great 4th🇺🇸

Is it just me, or has the beta option tab disappeared from the Software Update page for both iOS and watchOS?

(With iOS 17 beta 2 and watchOS 10 beta 2 installed)

UPDATE: By GMT8 01:32AM

It's back but still unstable, no new beta tho (unlikely to see one today), keep waiting!
