Is it me, or are people becoming incredibly lazy? You want things summarized so you don't have to read. You want the computer to write things for you.

Come on, folks, reading and writing are basic human skills. We shouldn't be passing this stuff off to AI. It's going to make communications even more impersonal and robotic than they already are.

From a purely negative perspective, yes. But couldn’t it also improve communication by being more concise and efficient?

If everyone uses AI, bearing in mind it's the same AI for everyone, then the messages will be the same.

More interestingly, they'll also be predictable by that very same AI.

So in future, I can just ask Siri "If I asked John xxx what would he reply?" and I won't need to even send it to him.

"Imagine I'm in a bar with John, what drink would be buy me and what would he say?" and I can just make myself the drink and save loads of money and time. He could be dead for all I'd know. I could be, too, as far as he's concerned, as he's doing the same thing.

Eventually, we'll all be dead and it'll be two parts of Apple Intelligence having a dull conversation with itself, probably wondering what the camera layout on the iPhone 25 will be like.

I am not going to disagree with this. AI seems like a cool idea, but I feel like we are gonna also lose all our writing skills. Also we won't be challenging our brains to think as much. I think there is a place for AI for sure, but careful it doesnt make us less skilled in the process.

Anyone else having an issue where the touchscreen becomes unresponsive for several seconds? This has been occurring a lot lately through the entire iOS system…

I can’t find where I saw this, so maybe my memory is failing me. Didn’t Apple say when Apple AI launches, not everyone will have access to it right away? IE you have the public release with the software, but there will be a waiting line for the AI portion? I may be incorrect on this as well…..

I can say this has happened to me but I was thinking it was just me not touching right. I am ready for Beta 5, battery life hasn't been great for me and this is the first time that has happened to me when on a beta version. Been pretty lucky.

Is it just me or does this 18.1 beta feel like a bit of Frankenstein beta?
The emojis are all big again and far apart from each other in the emoji keyboard, and other bugs that were fixed came back.
It feels like 18.1 was tested separately from 18.0 for Apple Intelligence integration, but didn't get all the fixes the 18.0 beta got.
They are on two separate beta seeds so yes this 18.1 beta 1 is definitely older than the 18.0 beta 4 (second version).

I enabled Apple Intelligence about 14 hours ago. My 15 Pro Max is still indexing my photo library.

Checking in. It's been about 40 hours and my phone is still indexing my photo library.

For reference, my photo library is currently around 660GB. There are a bunch of videos I could probably remove that would cut that down anywhere from 50GB - 100GB, but I'll wait until the indexing finishes just to keep it a clean run.

How can you tell it’s indexing?

Come on, folks, arithmetic and graphing are basic human skills. We shouldn't be passing this stuff off to Excel. It's going to make financial reports even more impersonal and automated than they already are.

Not sure those are apples to apples. There is no expression of personality in using Excel micros. If a machine does the math work for you, it's just math. Writing an email or text are your work and sound like you. A machine doing that in the most correct way sounds like a machine. The communication can lose it's personal nature.

Not here to say that is an entirely a bad thing, just really not apples to apples. I am not against AI, just waiting to see. I don't want my phone and computer writing everything for me. Correcting grammar or spelling, sure but rewriting my entire message I am still not sure about.

It works for me without VPN. It needed a long time around 16 hours when Apple said that it will not be working in my region. And suddenly …
What procedure have you done? All the above minus the WiFi to VPN Hotspot?

Did you succeed with iPad or iPhone?

Have you disconnected your SIM card?

Why is Apple Intelligence disabled in the EU anyway? Are they afraid of running afoul of data collection and privacy laws?

Officially Apple says they have no idea if Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring, and FaceTime screen sharing are compliant with the DMA. It's likely that they believe they would have to enable interoperability here, so that other apps might plug into these systems, which they don't want to build or just not have ready for launch. The EU says, they don't see any issue and are confused about what Apple's doing here.

Some think it's a backlash from Apple for all the changes Apple had to make with iOS to be compliant in EU with open App Store and such, but again thats just speculation. Nothing official from Apple in that regard, and if they were doing that I don't see them ever admitting it.

I can't say I blame Apple, but I also don't understand the whole EU requirements. To me it seems very heavy handed of the EU, but again I know little living in the States.

The point is that they're both just tools. There are times and places to use either one, and it's down to the individual to decide when and where to use them.

Need to make calculations on a bunch of data? You can use Excel. Need a quick and dirty sales pitch draft for your boss? You can use AI. It's simply a tool to help take care of the menial small things.

Oh I agree they are tools, and yes users can choose when they use them. That doesn't mean that the personal nature of messages are vastly different than doing math on excel.

I applaud Apple for having its tools only enhance what you have already written vs generate text from very short prompts. This is a good balance to strike.

Makes sense.

How do you know that? Does Apple post an icon guide online somewhere?
They showed the feature at wwdc. They would have defo covered it later with devs through the week and you'll find more on developer.apple.com

PS why do people ask for sources on here? This ain’t no academia you got your answer even though google is a tab away, take it or leave it and do your own research if in doubt…

I thought I’d contribute to the 19 pages of off topic and speculations. Lol

Back on topic. 18.1 b1 seems pretty stable for me. When using the AI features phone gets a bit too warm but in my regular usage it’s been pretty good (especially considering the heatwave we’re currently experiencing in the UK) and battery life has been solid too. I have noticed though in the photos app delete, edit and fave take a couple touches to trigger. This wasn’t an issue on 18.0 b1 to 4.

Not sure if you are referring to this post I made:

If so, in this particular case, the post I was challenging was not speculation but was a statement of fact that the only determinant of which devices get Apple Intelligence is the amount of RAM a device has. To my knowledge, Apple has never confirmed that to be the case and third parties have not figured that out, either. It’s one thing to say that you think that may be the case. It’s another thing to state it as fact. In the latter instance, I (and others) want to know what the poster’s authority for that statement is.
